Topic: Golf Talk / My private club is going semi private I think it is an over generalisation to blame green fee paying players for all the problems with course management and speed of play. I have looked at joining several clubs and never have due to the facts that I like to play different courses and that I can’t justify the joining fee when I can’t play every week, with a young family. The groups of mates I play with are just as addicted to golf as I am and are respectful to the courses we play. Last Sunday we followed a group of members around Indro east. In their defence there were other groups of members in front of them. (they all had the same Indro shirts on) The 4 in front were slow and not keeping up with the players in front, not being prepared for their turn either in the fairway or on the green. They seemed to be making the point that they were in no hurry. Standig around on the tee with no clubs in hand chatting when the green in frount was well and truly clear, and us standing 10m or so behind them, waiting for them to tee off. I have never seen so many pitch marks on the green that were not repaired as I did on Sunday. I was repairing on average 3 per green. Another point to mention – I find uncommon for green fee paying players to take divots on the fairway, if there are even on the fairway or hit the green with the accuracy and force to make a divot on the green. Chipping on from the rough doesn’t leave the same impact crater as a nine iron does. Just because we aren’t members doesn’t make us the bad guys. It doesn’t matter if you pay $2000 a year or $40 a round people that have no respect for others will always be the issue. My 2 cents for today |

Topic: Golf Talk / The Nazi Members I think golf is a sport that allows all people to play and be equally bad and addicted at the same time. I had the good fortune recently to play around with a gentleman in his 90’s. He may not hit the ball as far as the rest of us but it was great to see him out there with his son enjoying a round of golf. I hope I am doing the same if I make to his age. Remember golf is more than just getting around as fast as you can, it’s about enjoying the experience as well. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Smoothy vs Clic Gear The smoothy looks the way to go but the clic gear takes up a lot less room in the boot. Has anyone used one? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Smoothy vs Clic Gear I am sure there are topics out there re: buggies however I am looking at buying a new buggy and it is down to these two. I am interested if anyone has used both and how they compare. Also does anyone know of a try before you buy option in Brisbane? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test Boz The hat clips look great. I finanly finished a round with the same UV i started with. The ball has the odd bit of scuffing – threads hanging off etc. All in all the ball held up really well. I am finding it a lot softer off the new putter than I did off the old one. A mate bought me an odessey white hot #7 for being his best man. Great stick but a hell of lot softer off the face than my old no-insert putter |

Topic: Golf Equipment / $US and golf club prices I agree with Jarrod I used to buy everything from golfworks and referred all my friends there. I felt that I could shop there with confidence that I wasn’t getting ripped off. My wife went in there one Christmas and spoke to Jamie, told him she was my wife and asked him about some club I had been spouting on about. He new the club – and gave her a great deal. Great surprise for me as well. Since the change the store has gone down hill and I am at a loss as to where to buy any equipment from now. I will more than likely buy through my teaching pro at Vic Park for clubs and get everything else from the internet (US or here) except my UV’s from rebel. JTC – I don’t see why a ISG members opinion should be censored just because the company he is not impressed with is now a sponsor of the site. As long as posts aren’t aggressive or derogatory I see no problem with an honest opinion. The best thing about ISG is that it is a free exchange of ideas and thoughts from people that are just as addicted as I am. I read the site daily and check course reviews before I contemplate playing any new courses. As in life if you don’t like someone’s opinion don’t take any notice of it. You will spend a lot of time getting upset if you react to every opinion you don’t agree with. my 2c for Wednesday |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Burner? I currently have a R7 460 and love it, best money my wife ever spent. My mate wanted to buy one after using mine but waited to long and it was sold out, got sold a burner instead. I am not a fan and he still can’t hit it as consistantly as mine eventhough he has practiced with his a lot more. I guess it is what works for you |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golfing pet hates I have no issue with people lining up putts as it is the most costly part of my game. I have issue with the rest of the group all milling around watching one guy at a time and not preparing for their turn. I find that most times I have to wait is where social golfers on a Sunday (I am a social Sunday golfer by the way) are playing ambrose for no good reason, or that players aren’t ready when it is their turn to putt. Personally my group don’t stand on ceremony of furthest away putts, if your ready you go. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golfing pet hates Players that all stand around an watch each other put out and then go to their ball and start their process and take 2 minutes to line up a put etc Also players that wait until it’s their turn to tee off and then start with their 15 swing warm up routine You may guess that I hate waiting. My wife tells everyone I was born without a patience gene |

think the point has been missed. I don’t think the issue of walking off due to poor performance was ever suggested. More often than not the back nine saves my game. By the 10th I am usually warmed up and hitting the ball a lot better. Gribbles: – I agree that you handled the situation with respect for your playing partners and yourself. If you are penalised for taking the gentleman’s way out of a bad situation then I would not like to be a member of that club. I have been considering joining Indooroopilly, this may sway my decision. It seems logical to me that those players who are causing the disruption should be penalised not the person on the receiving end. Golf is a game to be enjoyed not ground out. You are not trying to make a living out there. Weekends are valuable time to us all and I am sure Gribbles did not start the round with the intent to walk off after 9 holes, therefore I am not sure how he has disadvantaged anyone else who was wanting to play that day. Gribbles turned up and was wanting to play a full round, other people made it so that the round was not possible to be completed without confrontation. No-one wants to spend 4 hours of their weekend playing a round of golf in a hostile environment. Gribbles I commend you for taking the high road and not just gutting it out or threatening the other players with penalties, I feel I would not have been able to keep my mouth shut and it would have ruined the day for all 4 players. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Teetimes Online Just a little note – I recently booked via the new system without hassle, however the hassle came with when I got to the course. The guy in the proshop said he required the voucher. There is no mention that we need to take proof of purchase. As it is just a tax receipt I didn’t take it with me on the day. With the old voucher system it was obvious that the voucher would need to be presented. He was reluctant to let my group play as I could not prove that I had paid. I assumed that as the booking was in his system it shoud have indicated that I had paid. Just a little point to help avoid confussion in future. The “how to” section doesn’t mention taking the tax invoice with you. Cheers |

Topic: Golf Talk / great service at golfworks aspley Boys, all of mates used to shop and buy from Jamie at the Gabba. Now none of us buy from there. I was in there recently as it is the closet store to me and I needed some new tees. I asked about some tees they used to sell under the “golf works” brand and that I wanted more as I either lose them of give them away. All she wanted to sell me was these monster tee’s. She kept on about how if I am breaking the old style I should change, eventhough I told her breaking them was not a problem. I keep saying never again but I always find myself poping in and then leaving unhappy. Anyone know of a good store near Stones Corner. There was a House of Golf, but it has gone bust |
