..........It would appear that the “order” I put in with Telstra a week or two ago …... for the phone and internet disconnection and reconnection at the two houses, has suddenly …........been put on hold.

The useless bastards apparently ….......do not have a spare socket in their cente, in which to plug our ADSL cable … so they have kindly informed me today that in two days time ….... we will be bereft of internet at the new house, and with no sign of it being connected in the foreseeable future.

How so I asked? .......... (I had visions of an eldery woman sitting at an old phone exchange with a spare cable in hand and no socket available ….. which is probably not far from the truth)

It seems that unless someone else disconnects from the system, we cannot be put on … as they don’t have a “square to spare”.

I then asked the Indian lady on the other end of the phone (I hate to use steotypes but hey, I didn’t start things by going off shore for their support services, they did) ......... what our options were.

She said that we could possibly go wireless, but that we’d have to do a conference call with the service centre, in order to find out what types of wireless we could get at the new place, and to put an entirerly new work order in.

Cue the 20 minutes of call waiting music ….....

Finally, someone who spoke the Queen’s English came on the line, and I was eventually told that we could indeed go wireless, but that for the same amount of gig’s we are currently on, it would now cost the same as what we’re currently paying for both the internet and phone.

She then asked about how often we use the house phone, and she said we could remove it and that would reduce the monthly bill.

By now, I was pretty much ready to tear them a new one, so I said rip the fecker out then, and just give us the bloody wireless then, as I need my fix of inane Stinky and Goldy posts .. but don’t need to be bothered with energy companies ringing me at dinnertime.

So ….... the upshot of that pelasant hour this morning is that …... I shall be bereft of phone at the new place (well at least until I tell the Beloved what I’ve gone and done) but fingers crossed, I’ll still be able to get my fill of viagra pills and other enhancements, online.

Telstra troublesome, useless, lying bastards they are …..........

All the best Gaz with the move and the thumb.

Thank Kinesh …........ more concerned with the house move than the thumb at this stage, as I’ve “done my thumbs” countless times playing cricket (wicketkeeping) in the old days, so I’m not overly concerned about it. It’ll just take a few days for the bruising to come out (if any) and the swelling to subside.

Just one more thing to put the frozen peas on I figure …........ oh, that’s if I’ve not packed them away someplace :-)

No worries Goldy …. it was good fun watching you and Frank battle it out, although I thought you were both under the cone of silence for a while.

Georgey Bopy and I just kept exchanging glances and were no doubt both wondering what drugs you two were on.

Also pretty ironic us talking about your wrist injury, and then for me to go stuff my hand a short while later.

Not to worry though, I’m sure normal services will resume for the both of us shortly.

Looking forward to our next game together buddy ….. it’s been too long :-)

Good luck with the move Gaz…and thanks for the day yesterday.

As I said in my thread…I felt a little guilty about you and Georgie yesterday…really going through the motions to a large degree….and we need to make up for that with another day somewhere where we are ALL in the comp.

Thanks again mate…and I appreciate the kind words.

Update time from Sunday’s round at Patto River, henceforth to be known as ….......... “The Goldy Show”.

I must admit to feeling sorry for good mate Frank, as Goldy put on a bit of a clinic in their matchplay event.

Whenever Frank looked to be ahead, Goldy would claw his way back into the hole, and then close it out with either some great putting, or some brilliant up and down work, out of bunkers, off of fringes, basically he barely missed a thing all day.

Nerves got the better of them both on the tee of the 10th (our 1st), but Goldy recovered just a touch better and then just put the foot down, to take out the early lead and then, he just built on it.

It was the Goldy of old in action …. taking all the break out of his putts and just rolling them firmly at the hole, and it was so good to see one after another droppping right into the cup (despite being in Frank’s corner).

Off the tee he was solid and didn’t give up much distance to Frank.

Goldy’s new driver performed like his well behaved 3W, only with a touch more distance. When Goldy strayed from the short stuff (which wasn’t often) .. his hybrids and irons got him right back on track, with one sensible recovery shot after another, so he always put himself back in with a chance on every hole.

Goldy’s short game though is one that I love to watch, and it was certainly on display during his matchplay vs Frank. Several times we watched him come back from something less than an ideal position, and steal another hole …....

Frank meanwhile was just playing steady, with lots of fairways and then just the odd missed green. As Goldy drew clear though, I could see the pressure building on Frank as he wondered how long this show was going to go on for, and wondering what he could possibly do to stop it. It wasn’t to be though, and both Georgey Boy and myself just sat back and watched Goldy cruise to a very solid victory.

As for my own game, well it wasn’t too bad, although the interest level wasn’t very high at the best of times. I hit a few nice ones off the tee, and some half decent irons at times, so that was pretty much what I wanted out of the round.

Somehow though, early on during the round, I managed to stuff my left hand up pretty badly, and I reckon I’ve done some serious tendon damage around my thumb. I don’t recall exactly when it was, but I knew something was wrong when I could barely “flick my lighter” mid round. It was pretty sore by the end of the round, and the hand is even sorer today.

I had planned on going for a spot of “right handed golf” this afternoon but I figure I will give that a miss, as its hard enough holding my morning coffee at the moment.

Probably better off going home and doing some more packing I reckon and trying to do it one handed.

So I think that might be it for me and golf this week, as we’ve got the house move on from mid week until the weekend when the big truck arrives on Saturday morniing, and then bright and early the next day, its the OOM at Sandhurst.

I just hope I remember to put the clubs in the car in readiness for it.

Should be interesting trying to play golf after a big house move the day before. Hopefully my hand will be in a bit better condition by then too, and the interest levels will be right up there again.

So, a busy week ahead, and no golf to speak of ….....

Yep ………. it usually takes me a couple of holes on a given practice night Matty, and then it all becomes a bit of a slog.

Then I know I should have given it a miss.

With the house move though I figured I’d best get in for my chop while I still could. Will know better next time though.

Just wondering if you ever suffered from “burn out”… I know I did last year and came back better for the lay off… So maybe the move will be a welcome distraction.

I’ve just locked in tomorrow mornings round… wasn’t sure about having a hit this weekend… a little over the home track and form hasn’t been great… but will battle through it. Second round in a month so I need to realign the expectations down a bit and start forgetting about performance and get back on the “happy to out” line of thinking.

After reaching my ultimate goal… time to reset, refresh and make sure the game has enough enjoyment in it…

Goal of tomorrows round? Enjoyment.

Good point smerg, i find during winter where my passions are divided with footy that my appetite for golf is prob 2/3 of what it is come spring time. Track conditions have an impact on that too, wet wintry weather, soft underfoot take the edge off a fullfilling round of golf

Sounds like a good plan for tomorrow Matty.

In addition, I’d offer the following to possibly consider ……..

Don’t think mechanics ……... just feel the shot and then let it happen.

Mechanics?? What like Mike and the Mechanics?

Mate…. I rarely think about that. Brain gets in the way. I’ll stick to doing the “brainwork” before addressing the ball.

If Georgie is sprinting…then we’ll be chesting the line together.

He’s due at my place at 6.45 Sunday morning…..

Shot more than 36 points in an OOM day….seriously.
Smoldy. When only the best will do.
http://www.golflink.com.au/...

So Georgey Boy will be there in good time then, seeing as you are travelling together ….... shame that means he’s going to have bad one.

Perhaps you can just drive around the block until say 5 minutes before we are due to tee off, or go have some “brekkie by the bay” before heading over to the course just in time for his dash to the line?

Topic: GPJ’s Journey to ... God Knows Where

Update time from last nights practice at Beacy .. and it was pretty much a frustrating night on the course.

Playing the front 9 and using the Lime Green Wilson FG Tour balls, I started off okay, but then the swing turned to crap, as I was just trying to hit them all too hard.

The approach shots were coming up short for a few holes due to me strangling the grip and just not letting them fly. I was in steer mode with my irons, and it showed in the results.

I think after nightly practice since Sunday, I was probably due for a break, and shouldn’t have bothered.

My putting though wasn’t too bad, (still don’t like the feel of the FG balls though) .......... and my driving was pretty good, it was just the in between bits that were tired and sad looking.

On the few ocassions where I just tried to swing easily, they came off nicely again, but by then, I was pretty well over it and just looking forward to getting back to the car park and packing the clubs away.

I ended up cutting out two of the front 9 holes, and then headed on home early, in order to do some more “house” stuff.

We move abodes “officially” next weekend, but we pick up the keys mid week, so at the moment its flat out at home, packing and sorting of stuff and making sure we have everything organised in readiness of the big move.

This means that golf will be taking something of a back seat over the next week or two at least, and I’ll just fit golf in between all the house stuff, and it’s probably not a bad thing.

I think at times like last night, I get a bit burned out having played so much of late, and the enjoyment and learning factor drops a bit, to the point where I just don’t “feel the love”.

So, my next official hit out is going to be on Sunday with Frank, Godly and Georgey Boy down at Patto River. I quite like the course having played it more than a few times, so hopefully after a couple of days break, I’ll be ready to go and hitting them nice and straight.

No matter how I hit them though, it’s going to be great fun watching Frank and Goldy go head to head in their much anticipated matchplay.

It should be interesting to see if Goldy can remain serious about the game for at least the first hole …..... (I’m tipping, not).

The other point of interest for me, will be in seeing how close Georgey Boy will time his arrival …... to our designated tee off time.

When he has to do the “sprint to the teebox”, he plays great …..... but when he gets there early ….... his game tends to suffer.

Hopefully it will be George’s mad dash that we get to witness, as I really enjoy watching him play when his game is on.

In the meantime for me, it will be mowing of lawns, boxing of goods, cleaning of house, and a final inspection of the new manor house to look forward to on Saturday afternoon ….... before making the short trip over to Patto River come Sunday morning.

Looking forward to that game …........
