Topic: Golf Equipment / Oakley Sunnies

Walrus,
Radar Range with the G30 lens. Can’t remember how much , say $300??
Drummond Golf obviously not the best price but at the time Oakley offered a pair of their superseded golf shoes free with the sunnies!
The Drummond bloke was suprised when he found out as really there is nothing for nothing (usually) at Drummond!
Price them at Drummonds then do a search to compare prices. At the time, their price was comparable.

Walrus,
It’s the filtering of the light to give more/better contrast between the grass and the ball.
My Oakley Radars do well with white on green/brown. The type of conrast moved me from the Vision UV because the UV contrast does not seem to be enhanced with these lenses. I use the Vision Expert 2 now.

Hi Guys,
Yeah, I have been wearing Oakleys for nearly a year. I have Radar Range with the G30 lens. As I have posted before they suit me (my vision is not good), the sort of contrast these lenses give is supposedly right for golf …I agree. I am about to opt for some replacement lenses because they scratch easily.
They are quite expensive! But so comfortable.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / My golf swing rebuild

glennbo,
My Tip is to swing back so that my left shoulder is over my right toe. It works ok but I still tend to lose that important spine angle.
I also use the opposite on the down swing where I swing thru so that my right shoulder finishes over my left toe. This also helps to minimise a hip slide towards the target.

You have got rid of that slight “lift” at the top of your backswing (among other great changes). I am working on that. Was it a thing you worked on? I am working on this … it tips the spine angle towards the hole and causes me to go OTT.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Bunker Shots

Jerry42,
I know exactly what you are facing in the bunkers on your course, mine is the same!
I have found the advice like that from Styles to be the only answer. But the possible variations of what to hit and how to hit need to be explored.
The variations as I see them include:
lob or sand wedge
open clubface to splash or square to cut through the sand
even play a flop type of shot
yes, sometimes chip but always follow through
Those hard pan deep greenside bunkers are just a curse and should be a higher priority for grounds staff to fix.
My previous experience was playing at a sandy course where you just had to dig a hole to get a bunker, the texture was consistent. My current course is built on clay that seems to quickly absorb the sand thrown into the hole they dig to form a bunker!
Best of luck!

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Putting a Score Together...

Lagpressure,
The avitar is not at all cryptic!
Backtogolf: As an older golfer, recently retired, and now having the time to revisit my obsession of 35 years ago, backtogolf seemed an apt name to convey that context. I have been playing again for nearly 2 years.

Ben Hogan: Well, what can I say … he was a hero of mine in the sixties when I started to play, and he is even more revered nowdays by many others as well as me.
One of the reasons I am an avid reader of these forum is my thirst for knowledge of the game. I was an ok player in my youth but lacked knowledge and hence developed significant swing flaws. I reached a handicap of about 7 and frustration set in so lost enthusiasm for the game. Nowdays I am playing to a ~12 handicap and with this site (your contibutions included), a few lessons, a TGM book from Guru, therfore a lot more knowledge, and renewed enthusiasm I aim to better that handicap of 7.

What a great thread!!
You could write a great deal on this stuff. I am prompted to mention a recent conversation with a person who is a Hypnotherapist. She says golf is a sport very suited the the use of hypnotherapy.
Apparantly you have a negative thought, or experience of the past “dealt with” in some way and replaced with a positive one when in some high level state of relaxation (hypnotic state).
This may seem a lot of crap to many but I have seen positive results in some circumstances. The cynics will no doubt refer to the party trick stuff they may have seen on TV.
Anyway I may try it out and report.

Further to Burner, I have read most of what Lagpressure has written and whole heartedly agree! The deepth and breadth of what Lag has put on the these forum is immense. so from me, thanks!! I look forward to your next post.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Bunker shots with a 60 degree wedge?

Yeah, for me it depends on the sand texture and compactness. I use both my LW & SW depending on this.

Topic: Golf Equipment / What bounce is ideal for your Sand Wedge and Lob wedge?

Good info Dwayne!
For me, I wanted options out of the sand, or lack of it, out of the bunkers I normally play from, so my 60 degree lob wedge has a little bounce so I can use it to cut into packed sand instead of drop kicking the ball with my high bounce 57 degree SW.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Lind Mojo 460 Sqaure Driver

Hi Wormburner & KycGolfer,

In getting back into this game I bought the “generic Maxfi” set. The driver was called Full Bore! Really, I think the big difference is in stiffness and quality of the shaft in the MOJO.
I wonder what sort of improvement I would I have had if I had bought the Nike sumo or the one you guys are impressed with, the Nickent??
Anyway, I think it the improvement is more than the placeabo effect!!

For the money, or just in general my MOJO with a stiff gamer shaft and 1.5” longer has improved my driver distance and direction a lot.
This has helped me reduce my H/C from 17 to 12 in these winter months inMelbourne where there is little run. I also play a long course (6247 metres).

Reference material such as these are invaluable particularly for those of us who are visual learners ( there are a number of learning styles).
One of the consistent failures of teachers is to recognise these different styles.

Topic: Golf Talk / Where to play around Avalon /South West Melbourne

Werribee Park is actually the closest course to Avalon and, yes there have been problems with water quality recently, but they are working through these and seem to be heading in the right direction. Al least they have guaranteed, cheap water!
Sorry got a bit off the track (thread)!!!

I got a razor 60 degree wedge about 3 months ago and it is very good and a very good price!! As a tall player I enjoy the ability to have clubs made longer as required. It is a Cleveland clone with a milled face .. good spin. A little less bounce would be good but this a minor issue as I still use my 58 sand wedge from bunkers.
The Mojo 9.5 driver with a Gamer (s) shaft 1.5” longer has revolutionised my tee shots!!

Topic: Golf Talk / What if Tiger didn't play anymore?

As far as sportsmen, go, I compare Michael Jordan to Tiger, having been a great fan in both basketball and golf.
The determination and unparalleled talent are similar.
Adversity often brings out the best in true champions eg Hogan. Jordan also had his biggest injury issues with his knees.
