Topic: Rules of Golf / Test question, practising on course before stroke round..... Of course. In Decision 7-1b/1 a player makes a stroke on the competition course before the round. Still it’s DQ. The player is allowed to chip or putt near the first teeing ground before the round – that’s it. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Test question, practising on course before stroke round..... You are definitely hitting shots on the course. When you deliberately hit full strokes down the fairway from a place beside the teeing ground, you are just technically trying to sneak around the Rules. There’s no grey side to this – it’s even in the Rule said that chipping and putting near the teeing ground is permitted. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Test question, practising on course before stroke round.....
Practicing during a round is 2 strokes/loss of hole, not DQ. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / If it is preferred lie on the fairways, can you clean ball? You may clean it – it’s normally one of the reasons for making the Local Rule on preferred lies, muddy or poor conditions. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Swing Ring 14-3/10 Use of Training or Swing Aid During Round Q. During a round, may a player make a stroke or a practice swing using a club with a weighted headcover or “donut” on it, or use any other device designed as a training or swing aid? A. No. The player would be using an artificial device to assist him in his play in breach of Rule 14-3, but see also Decision 4-4a/7 for use of a weighted training club. (And breach of Rule 14-3 is DQ) |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Plugged ball lip of buker - Oz Masters The Local Rule on embedded ball through the green is always in effect in this tournament, but according to a poster on another forum who saw the incident on TV, there was no grass, no turf – just bunker. It does sound like a wrong Ruling. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / Plugged ball lip of buker - Oz Masters No, you don’t need me, you really, really need a close-up TV-clip of the incident, because it does sound like a wrong Ruling. If the ball is embedded in the bunker, there’s no free relief – sand or dirt. Only footage can give an answer. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / incorrect local rule Nobody can answer this properly, it’s a kind of “hot potato” subject. As I understand it, the player must abide by the Local Rules as they are. All the player can do is to play by them, and afterwards try to make the Committee “see the light”, because telling the golfing authorities is not likely to do much good, most clubs all over the world like to make the Local Rules as the see fit, and there’s no sanctions really for clubs making illegal Local Rules. I have been lucky from time to time that a club has kept my Local Rules for an official tournament as their new Local Rules for the course. |

Not during a search in a hazard. You may use everything available – rake, hands, club, shovel. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / ball lost in bunker Your ball is simply lost/go back and play another under Rule 27-1 if it’s not found after 5 minutes search in the bunker. There’s no special Rule on ball lost in bunker as there is on ball lost in a water hazard, in an abnormal ground condition or in an obstruction. |

|
Topic: Rules of Golf / How would YOU play it ? If a bush is used as a distance marker, the player will only get free relief as long as it’s young and newly planted. If a club wants the players to get free relief from distance markers, they must use ordinary obstructions like stakes, and declare the immovable. |
