Topic: Golf Equipment / Balls balls balls Yeah the 90 and 100 compression seemed much more popular around the turn of the century. Back in those days I was using Optima TS and if I had enough pocket money, Maxfli Revolutions. What happened to maxfli anyway? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Balls balls balls I found an old DT 80 on the practice range today. I had totally forgotten how great they feel. I love that soft ‘clickiness’ they have. I think they were starting to lose popularity just when I first starting playing about 8 years ago. |

Topic: The Lounge / Lower Back pain It sounds like you’re one of the unfortunate people that have the sciatic nerve run through the piriformis muscle. Can’t remember the exact figure, but something like 20% of people have the nerve run through the muscle, while everyone else has the nerve run over or under the muscle. Like most people have said, it’s important to find a good physio, like all occupations, there are good physios and some not-so-good ones. Stetching is definitely going to be important, but you may also need to strengthen some other muscles, e.g. glutes. Your piriformis may be tight due to overuse because other muscles are being underused. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE I wish you all the best with your endeavours. One piece of advice though. Science and coaching are two very different beasts, both being vital in modern day sport. Coaching is about anecdotal evidence gained through experience and intricate knowledge of the game, while science is based on applying principles and gaining knowledge through rigorous testing and research. If you choose to help people under the banner of science, you MUST be able to back yourself up with hard evidence. You started this thread with a block of text in capitals that made a few different statements. That paragraph (I use that term lightly, usually paragraphs utilise grammar) makes no sense whatsoever. For starters, there is no such thing as a correct motion. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE How can this technology be assessed for it’s merits if there isn’t any research or information available? The very concept of science is that developments are scrutinised. This snake oil cures cancer, but I’m not going to show you any results of clinical trials or tell you why it works. Why should I take it seriously? |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE I’m in Melbourne. So there isn’t any information regarding this technology available on the interweb? Has there been any published research about it’s efficacy? Reliability? |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE This new technology sounds interesting. Does it incorporate electromyography (EMG)? Is there anywhere I can read more about this biomedic and his technology? |

Topic: Golf Talk / Melbourne - public courses near public transport Northcote Golf Course is a pretty easy walk from the 112 tram. It’s a pretty average 9 hole course, but easy to get to. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE BIOMEDICALLY CORRECT MOTION I have a degree in exercise and sports science which has a large biomechanics component. I also spent some time working with a biomechanist specialising in efficient running technique. I’m currently studying podiatry and hoping to forge a career in lower limb mechanics in sport. By the way, I’m not having a go at biomechanic, merely questioning his terminology. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE I googled it too, just to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I can barely find any association between that definition and biomechanically sound golfing technique. I can understand biomedical engineering being vital to the design of analysis equipment, but this idea of ‘Biomedically correct motion’ baffles me. Type ‘biomedically correct motion’ into google. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Bio LEFT GOLF SCIENCE CENTRE BIOMEDICALLY CORRECT MOTION Did you just make this up? I have never seen this term even remotely associated with biomechanics, kinetics or kinematics. I’ve studied this stuff for 6 years. I’m sure you do great work, but some of the things you write make you sound like a snake oil merchant. |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Your First Course My parents had a few clubs cut down for me, probably at age 7 or 8. I used to hit balls with them at Antill Park, Picton (75km SW of Sydney) when away from the pro shop. I think my parents stopped playing pretty soon after that. I remember my first nicely timed shot though. Probably at age 11 or so, mucking around with the cut down clubs in the front yard with REAL balls (yeah I was devious). I was going to hit this shot across the road into a vacant block, but ended up smashing it 80m or so over the fence of the house that backed onto the property. I felt real bad and told my mum a couple of nights later. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Handicap goals I’m just about to join a club again after about 8 years off. I stopped playing when I was 16 and I was off 17 which took me two years. I play every now and then with a work buddy and managed an 85 at Growling Frog a couple of months back. This time next year I’d like to be off about 16 or so. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf in the olympics - why not? I said nothing about money. I just don’t think a tennis player would rank an olympic gold higher than a wimbledon crown, nor would a soccer player claim that playing at the olympics was greater than playing at a world cup. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf in the olympics - why not?
My thoughts exactly! The olympics should be the pinnacle for the athlete, and for sports like tennis and soccer it obviously isn’t. Nor would it be for a golfer. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Lind Golf Has anyone had any experience with the Longbow irons? I’ve read through nearly all of this thread and can’t see any comments on them. I’ve had a hit of most of the OEM clubs from callaway, ping and TM and the burner XD irons felt the best, especially at address. So I’m thinking these Longbows might be a winner. All of the positive feedback in here is making the choice a lot easier. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / New player looking for an Iron set I was in a similar situation a few months ago and managed to pick up some Daiwa Hi Trac irons for $100. Actually I’m interested in a few things. What are people’s thoughts on these irons? And secondly, can I get these refitted for me and if so, how much would I be looking at per club? Sorry for the possible hijack. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Major Brand forbids sale over web I guess it's the same as everything in life. Pros and cons for both. It all depends on your situation and what you consider to be of the upmost importance. You can't knock anyone for doing what he/she thinks is best for him or herself. I've basically put together a cheapo set because I'm a student and just getting back into golf after stopping at age 17 with a handicap of 17. |
