Topic: Golf Talk / Sun Stupid Golfers I tried a wide brimed hat but it was too hot and generally a pain in the a* when coupled with sunglasses. I just put sht loads of sun block on to cover my head and neck and any other exposed parts. Can you reccomend a good wide brimmed hat? |

Topic: Golf Talk / Winningest? Not saying they are the ultimate authority or anything but The Oxford English Dictionary adds pretty much any word that is widely used – i.e. if enough people in the English speaking world start using it enough of the time then it does actually become a proper word and gets added to the dictionary. So beware – if you don’t like don’t use it! |

Topic: Golf Talk / Should the broomstick be illegal?
I thought that ‘on tour’ the gentlemans agreement is that long putters are not used in this scenario. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Should the broomstick be illegal? Yes. There is a fundamental difference between a club that you swing freely holding it with your hands and something that is anchored to the body. Broomhandles/belly putters are different from 460cc and other club technology in this regard. |

I know what you mean – I’ve been out with a wrist injury for the last 2 months and the frustraion is killing me. When I can play again I don’t care if it’s raining and if the course is closed I’ll just beat balls at the range! |

Topic: Golf Talk / Which North Brisbane Club? I live in Newstead in Brisbane so it is a long drive, about 1:10h so it was a tough call but the bonus is I can spend the day up there using the pool/gym etc to offset the travel time. The deal comes in at $300 a month for the first 3 years (8K joining fee plus $850 subs for ‘island escape’ (country) membership) then around 850 bucks for anual subs after that. Membership is also transferable so if you decide to leave after 3 years the club will re-sell your membership and give you back 80% of the fee at that time. You also get the Troon Golf advantage program which lets you play 2-3 rounds per year at each of the other Troon Golf managed courses in Australia, this includes Brookwater and Hope Island in Queensland and about 6 or 7 other courses in NSW and VIC. So far I couldn’t be happier and I’m sure that would also have been the case at North Lakes as the two layouts are certainly in the premier league. In the end Pacific Harbour had the ‘x factor’ and that just edged it for me and the non-golf facilities are a bonus that make it worth the extra drive time. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Which North Brisbane Club?
I was fully intending to join Northlakes and I still would have been happy to sign on but shortly after I made that post we got some membership information (figures) from Pacific Harbour that we asked for a little while previously. They invited us to the club to show us the facilities and for a free round of golf. In the end I was blown away by experiance and the costs over 5 years was comparable to northlakes (joining fee is much higher at PH but annual subs for country membership with full playing rights is lower). In the end it was a tough decision as Northlakes is closer & has better practice facilities (especially short game area) but the course at Pacific Harbour is pure ‘golf porn’ and my wife can use the country club facilities while I play golf, which really cutts down on the guilt factor of spending all Weekend playing! I wil still be heading to NorthLakes for the odd game though but a wrist injury is keeping me from playing at all at the moment…. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf Club memberships must change This is what I want out of club membership in order of preference:-I recently left a club because they couldn’t provide the first 3 in my list. 1. A course in great condition The point I’m trying to make is that (for me at least) it’s all about the golfing experience and I think that the problem for some clubs is trying to boost revenue by packing the course with visitors and as many members as possible. This has two negative effects 1. It p*sses off the exisitng full members because of 5 hour rounds and ballots for Saturday comps and 2. The course just gets a battering and costs even more to maintain. A golf club is like any other business, the mix has to be right and if the number one asset (the course) isn’t managed properly then it’s only a matter of time before the club starts to struggle. Does anyone think daylight saving for south east Queensland would help get more golfers playing? Would it allow clubs to take less weekend bookings and get replacement revenue from twilight golf and more 5 day members? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Any good training aids? David Leadbetter Swing setter? I had one and it didn’t really do much for me but i can see how it would be usefull especially with the training grip but it’s certainly not the magic bullit that will solve all your problems. For the record the best money i ever spent on my game was having a lesson. |

Topic: Golf Talk / bad manners! I have seen some properly hilarious shots on the golf course, I never laugh outloud because we’ve all been there and hit those same shots but to crack up out loud when you don’t know the person and they aren’t even in your group is just retarded. It displays a truely bad attitude that probably means they’ll never play anything close to decent golf of thier own. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Pacific Harbour Membership?
Pacific Harbour is definitely a big, big test of golf. It is certainly the toughest course I have ever played and when the wind blows, it can be a monster but I wouldn’t say it’s unfair nessesarliy, there are plenty of bail out options. Modern in design, yet it gives plenty of nods to the traditional links’ of scotland with huge undulating greens and even one double green on hole 11/14. Superb – it’s forcing me to commit to playing better golf which can only be a good thing. |
