Topic: Golf Equipment / Length of Golf Putter Well guys he has had 2 rounds with his shortened Ping Anser putter and loved it. 5 one putt greens, the rest 2 putts which is unusual for him. Could be just a confidence thing but he swears it is working. Will keep you posted. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Should the broomstick be illegal? Saw these posts and I am still using a Ping B90 putter. Notice also that there are very few pros using them. If it makes a game enjoyable why not? Keep the long putters legal. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Length of Golf Putter Well we bit the bullet and he has gone to 25”. I still use a Ping broomstick so we look a queer pair when we are on the greens together. Will be interesting to see how long before he comes running back to get a new shaft. Still he might have success. Time will tell. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Length of Golf Putter My son has had putting problems and as a last resort took his son’s junior putter out on the course and putted, in his words, magnificently. He has brought his Ping Anser Putter to me to get me to shorten his shaft. He wants a length of 30 inches but I am trying to convince hime to start with maybe 33 and see what happens. He can always take some more off but if he wants to lengthen he needs a new shast.. |

Topic: Golf Talk / moral dilema re nonconforming driver Regardless of your own opinions on whether the non-conforming list is correct or not it is simply a rule that has been passed by the ruling golf bodies. Hence anyone using such a club is in breach of the rules and shall be disqualified from a competition. It’s similar to playing in a group where a player (the marker) knowingly accepts a wrong score from his playing partner, rather than correct him and infer that he is a cheat. That player is playing against the whole field and failure to correct the score may result in him winning a ball and someone who records his correct score misses out. Rules are rules and must be abided by or the whole game loses credibility. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Bags - stand or cart? best value? I can’t understand why people still carry bags. Get a cart bag and save some energy for your shots. On our course we have a few young bucks that think it is cool to carry their hoofer bags. They are also the ones that forget their sand buckets or drop their buckets somewhere on the course. Hence the club divots remain unrepaired. Get a buggy mate. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Easy 3 wood to hit I use a Ping G5. Bought it cheaply with a 5 wood seconhand and would recommend then to anyone. I get good length and accuracy. You might also try the Ping Hybrids as they have similar length to many fairway woods and players find them easy to hit. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Smoothy Big Boy Buggies I had an older Pilgrim Pro made in Australia and used to looka fetr it fairly well. After 10-15 years I decided that the bearings in the wheels were wearing and pensioned it off to a son and purchased a new chrome one. What a mistake. Heap of Sh**! Not only was the chrome inferior but the metal used on the handle was thinner and the size was actually smaller. Had to but another and went for the black painted one. Still disappointed in the quality of the materials used. Have mended the handle 5 times. It now has a solid metal rod down the centre that I braised on. Pity we could not have the same quality that we had 15-20 years ago. |

Just out of interest what did you upgrade to. I am using a Srixon at the moment (past 3 years) and haven’t found anything to match it, apart from the Ping G5. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Adelaide - local knowledge?? Flagstaff Hill is just up the hill from Plympton and you should be able to get in. Blackwood and Belair are also close by but I think you would find Flagstaff Hill challenging and in good nick. The pro at Flagstaff Hill, Troy Lane is recognised as one of the best teachers in SA. |

Generally the teaching pro will take anyone’s money. At my club the pro will teach anyone providing he has space on his booking sheet. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Anyone tried a Belly Putter
I’d suggest that you keep the broomstick in the closet unaltered. I use the broomstick and keep on coming back to it. You will find what a treasure you really have when you try out other putters. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Maximum club head size you would use
Would be interesting to see how people now think. This posting was way back in 2002. I still use a Srixon 360cc but there are lots of 450+ clubs out there. What do you use now? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Most durable premium balls? Interesting to see that Muntz says that balls lose distance after being at the bottom of the water for months. I live next to a course and have collected thousands of balls from the water as the level recedes. I have experimented by hitting dozens of used Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls on the range as well as using new balls and could see no real difference with any of the balls that had good covers. My rule has become “if it looks like new it is probably as good as new”. I know the pros may change balls frequently during a round but as a 14 handicapper I could see no difference in flight , length or playability of the used balls and a new ball. Not really scientific but I would use a good used ball instead of buying a new one every game. As long as the cover is in good condition they seem ok. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Buying Golf Clubs Cannot emphasize too much how important it is to at least try a few different shafts with equipment that you are going to buy, I am an older golfer and the best money I ever spent was to have a free fitting with the Henry Griffitts fitting cart. Comparing shafts it was obvious that I needed an A flex shaft. I did not have to buy a set from Henry Griffitts but it gave me a good indication on what to look for. I could have wasted hundreds of dollars by just going out and buying a set with regular or stiff shafts. Try and hit in the open rather than in a golf shop as well. Most club pros worth their salt should be able to give you guidance on what shaft suits you. Incidentally I do not use OEM clubs, preferring to build my own. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Buying glue for regripping? Go to Cheap as Chips/ Cunningham’s type store and just get a tube of KS Bond or similar contact adhesive. Then you just need ordinary masking tape over the shaft. Apply the cement to inside the grip and and on shaft. Don’t put too much on as you can waste a lot. You will soon find out how much to use with experience. One tube will last 40 plus grips. |

Topic: Golf Talk / lessons in adelaide
The recognised top teacher in SA is Troy Lane at Flagstaff Hill Golf Club. "Troy has been voted as Titleist Australia's top 10 coach, 5 times SA teacher of the year 99-03, PGA magazine's top 50 coach in Australia and has AAA accreditation by the PGA.
Coaching lessons are available for both Members and visitors
." - taken from
Why go to others when you can have the best? I have had a few
lessons over the years and have found him a great guy to work
with. Although he coaches pros and state teams he is great with
the average hack as well. Give him a ring...nothing to lose and
plenty to gain. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Refinished Pro V1's
I live near a course with a big water trap and often find
Titleist balls. After a wash in white king, and if they have no
blemishes.I often use them for a few rounds. No different to a
new ball as far as I am concerned. These would be the same as
those that your friend gave you. Certainly a cheap alternative to
buying new ones. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Gimmee the good oil on balls.....
Precept Laddie and Pinnacle Exception are good medium price balls
for me. Titleist ProV1 and V1x are outstanding balls but the
price can be offputting, especially if you lose one during a
round. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Callaway, Titleist, Bridgestone or Srixon?
quite candidly the person to decide is YOU. I have tried them
all. having found a few of each one. The Titleist Pro V1 and V1x
are great balls and I use any that I happen to find on the
course. For me the price is not justified to buy a new one each
time. On Saturday I used a new Pinnacle Exception and finished +7
in a Par competition and had one of my best rounds for 5 years.
Guess what ball I will be using next week!! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / The best place to get genuine club fitting and sound advice in Adelaide?
Have enjoyed the thread and read with interest the various
thoughts on buying clubs. My experience was a positive one with
Troy Lane, long regarded as the premier golf coach in SA, and now
based at Flagstaff Hill Golf Club. I was going to have a lesson
with Troy about 5 years ago to tighten up my game. To my horror
he said a lesson would not do much good as I was using the wrong
shaft in my clubs. (Trusty Ping ISI's that I loved.) He had a
Henry Griffitts fitting cart that had interchangeable heads and
shafts. To illustrate his point I hit a 6 iron with different
shafts ...and bingo!! Then difference between my 6 iron and the
best of the test irons was about 10 metres. |
