Topic: Golf Talk / Golf in Sabah Ive played 2 courses in sabah. Played dalit bay which was a nice course with plenty of water. Had a great par3 over a lagoon that opened up to the sea on the back9. Greens were average but layout was challenging. located about an hour out of kota kinabalu Also played sutera harbour. 27hole complex that offers nite golf. set on an island in the heart of kota kinabalu. very well manicured course, almost american style. While in malaysia i als so played kuala lumpur golf and country club. 36holes and the biggest clubhouse youve eva seen, must have been 300m long with a seperate area for each course and a 2 level driving range out of the back. |

Scrambes, it is the 16th tee at longy you are talking about with views from the central coast to the north and the city in the south. Awesome spot. |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Long Reef...your thoughts?
Monday is open comp at Longy. Call the pro shop on 9982 2943 to make a booking. Cost about $45. Scrambles, I got the divot tool. Not sure if they do a hat clip. Give the pro shop a call on the above number or send them an email, address should be on the website. Whitednj, how tough is the back right pin on the first hole? Easy 3 putt when the pin is placed back there. |

Agree with the holes you have picked. Ive hit a full 4 iron from the plates on 13(about 135m) into a southerly and just made the green, flushed it too. 17 is probably the best bunkerless hole I have played. |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Long Reef...your thoughts? Hello Captainscrambles, I completely agree with everything you have just said. The holes you are referring to are the par 4 5th and the par 3 13th at the top of the hill. My favourite is the short par 4 3rd that is usually played into the nor easter but is occasionally played downwind in a southerly. The pro shop has plenty of the metal ball markers you are after. I bought one recently, cost about $18. Whitednj, When you were playing longy was the now 12th hole a par 5 with the tee down near the fairway bunkers on the 9th? Its now played as a par 4 with the fairway bunkers to far up the fariway for most decent players to reach. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Royal QLD Membership
Being a member of a royal club certainly has its privleges. U get to play all the other royals as reciprocal clubs and once you are a member you can transfer your membership between them. As for the melb sandbelt reciprocal clubs, im a country member of newcastle and get reciprocals at quite a few of the leading courses down there. when it comes to travelling and playing golf its the best thing i eva did. If you can get in without a joining fee I would seriusly consider doing it, but i would mant to know a few members there. I could imagine a royal club could be a very lonely place if you werent introduced to the inner circles. |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Long Reef...your thoughts? Im a member there so i may be biased. I think its a great layout with the major factor being the wind. Its very rare that you will play longy twice with the wind coming from the same direction and the same strength. I really enjoy the first 6 holes as you have to think your way through those holes, not just boom a drive and hit an approach shot. The hill you talk about, in my opinion, isnt too extreme. Its provides holes 14-16 with some nice elevation changes. These holes would be alot less enjoyable to play if they were built on flat ground. As for the walk backs the longest would be between 6th green and 7th tee, maybe 40m. You have to remember that this course is built in an area where land and real estate prices are extremely high and I imagine fitting 18 holes on that site wouldve been challenging. The greens at longy are usually in top condition(speed and true) and the head greenkeeper Peter Donkers is constantly winning awards for his work at the course. Australian and NSW Open qualifying rounds are played at long reef on regular occasions and the scores that qualify are sometimes over par. Its a true test of golf that doesnt have the reputation of other well known courses in Sydney. I appreciate your thoughts st andrews. |
