Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Mike Clayton to redesign Lake Karrinyup Jeffery your employer "Mr Clayton" must be happy with himself.
I concur with 69 and mothman, hardly a selection process when you
have a short list of one. |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / In-house Golf design Pty Ltd I would suggest that some clubs don't aspire to greatness.. and rightly so... others may not have the wherewithal to engage a designer... and there are plenty of greenkeepers compotent in design and construction.. Where does HSC's club fit ... who'd know unless he comes good with the club's name |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Where is the next Barnbougle? Turfgrasses can generally be broken into two categories, warm and cool season. Warm season are your couches and creeping varieties. Cool season are your bents and fescues. The Queensland climate is not conducive for cool season grasses. In the Australian southern states the dormancy of couch grasses is an issue, hence the two grass strategy at Royal Melb & Commonwealth to name two. Most new strains of couches/creeping variety grass currently under research are for shade tolerance, limiting disease/insect invasion and reduced dormancy periods.

Topic: Golf Architecture / Using a well known Architect Stan... Specky I would doubt that 3-4 mil would cover statutory planning application/approval, environmental management, design fees, construction costs plus the costs of facilities and amenities also irrigation and pumping system. Plus the little extras like
Cart paths, car parking, water storage, practice facilities,
maintenance buildings, In addition golf course furniture and maintenance shed fit-out. Design fees are usually lump sum and therefore not subject to large fluctuations. It is not the "design fee" you should be consentrating on but construction and ongoing maintenance costs... If consideration is already being given to selecting a designer on fees alone... then ... selection of a construction and/or irrigation company should be very interesting... It is a fact that the better designers can save significant sums during the construction process... Unfortunately in this day and age "litigation" is becoming the norm... should a group of members design the course and someone enventually gets hurt ... guess which group will have to front the courts... |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Answers G69 I agree with JJJ the game should be fun. Reward those that play well irrespective of their individual talents. If someone plays well "so be it".
If you revisit the ISG thread It appears there are more people going backwards than forwards and I am sure most are now using the new equipment and balls.
Professionals and leading amatuers are not a true reflexion on
your average golfer. G69, you don't need answers, design and build the courses and let em play, and may the best player win irrespective of the score. (I assume you can then repeat 5 and 69 (-1) at Wynnum). |
