Topic: Golf Equipment / NXT Tour vs ProV1x

I was in the US last year so managed to bring back a couple of dozen Pro V1’s for myself and a friend at a very nice price . I’d been playing the NXT for some time and was a little hesitant trying the Prov1, I’m off 24 (aiming for 18!) and but regularly shoot in the low 90’s.

After a few rounds I can say that the ball travels about the same as the NXT, isn’t any less accurate and pulls up remarkly on the green. Durability is noticably poorer but I got them at a price cheaper than buying NXT’s here.

If you can afford it, treat yourself to them.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Taylormade RAC OS2 shaft upgrades

QUOTE: petergf @ Jul 31 2006, 10:51 PM

have you tried comparing your RAC OS to the RAC LT (shaft equivalent) also remember that no technology can replace watching the ball in flight

I agree. As a 24 marker I play the RAC OS2 and they are great. Easily a club longer than my previous set and they run quite strong lofts (PW is 45). As a 15 handicapper you should have been directed to the LT. This has a lower ball flight than the OS2. I'd take them back to Drummonds and demand a refit as they have quite clerly got it wrong.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Fairway Woods

I'm a member at Heidelberg Golf Club and our pro shop stocks a range of brands including TM, Ping, Cleveland and Titleist. When I asked my pro for advice on upgrading my Orlimar 3-wood to something better suited to my 23 handicap he had no hesitation in recommending the R5 3-wood. It's one of the easiest clubs in my bag to hit well.

As ever though, demo several and decide which feels right for you.

Sems like he redeemed himself a little with a par round today that hopefully means he makes the weekend and the sponsors are breathing a little easier.

Yes he probably did go chasing $'s to play in South Africa and yes, it has affected his performance through jet lag. How many of us have played a crap Sunday morning round after a bad Saturday night up late for whatever reason?

On the plus side he did come back to play the Oz Masters and did play the Oz Open too. Cut the guy some slack! We seem to be whinging about our professional golfers too often but are damn quick to claim them our won when things are rosy.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Lookin For A New Driver...

From a fellow high handicapper I strongly suggest:
1. Get some leasons
2. Practice what you're learning in your lessons
3. Get yourself fitted with the most flexible shaft you can control and the biggest head you can get.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Travel Bags

I've found the SKB Falcon travel case to be great. It's a moulded polyethylene hard case golf bag that is completely lockable and fits a full set of clubs. It is also guaranteed for life by SKB, good to know they stand by their products.

I know the distributor and I've attached some info he gave me a while ago. PM me if you're interested. They are also currently available at some Drummond Golf stores in Victoria.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Club Championships

I can't say I've competed in our Club Championships, but I have shot my lowest round ever (7 under hcp) at a tournament event on a course I had never seen or played before. I had played little golf leading into the tournament too. Key to this amazing feat? I said to myself that I'd take the day as it came, played with the swing I had and just try and enjoy it. Give it a go.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Wedge worries

Thanks for all the input guys, much food for thought! To help clear up some issues, I'm 32 and about 170cm (5ft 7). my swing speed with the driver was last measured at 85mph when I got the PingG2 in March in 11.5 loft. Generally I play fortnightly and practice weekly.

Most of the respose have merit, ie. get long clubs you're comfortable hitting and forgiving, hence the G2, TM R5 3 wood and Rescue 3 now in my bag. However when reflecting back over my last few rounds the biggest area where I drop shots needlessly is 100m in. For instance during my last round I had 3 GIR's but 3-putted them all. Admittedly they were 15 metre plus putts, but two of them were approaches with my 56° SW from about 80m out after good drives or second shots.

I've ordered the matching TM RAC OS2 50° wedge an will let you all know how haveing the fourth wedge in my bag helps. Meanwhile, anybody know where I can puck up David Pelz's short game book that was recommended?

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Wedge worries

The lofts of my TM RAC OS2's are as follows:
3i -20 (same as my old set)
4i -23 (same as my old set)
5i -26 (was 27 in my old set)
6i -29 (was 31 in my old set)
7i -33 (was 35 in my old set)
8i -37 (was 39 in my old set)
9i -41 (was 43 in my old set)
PW -45 (was 47 in my old set)

If I ditch the standard 45° pitching edge for a 48° I've got a 9° gap to my 9 iron. Also not sure about suggestions to bend the pitching wedge as these clubs are cast. This would also add more bounce surely? Seems like a 50° or 51° wedge might be the go. Checked out the Cleveland wedge fitting system and it suggested a 51° gap wedge. I can get the TM RAC OS2 gap wedge at 50° also.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Wedge worries

Hi Guru,

I play off 22 and recently bought a new set of TM RAC OS2 irons, replacing the Precept forged cavity back blades I struggled with. I did however keep my 56° sand wedge from this set and my Vokey 60° lob wedge. My concern is that my pitching wedge is now only 45° (was 47° in my old clubs) and I hit it about 110 metres, about 40 metres further than my sand wedge. I struggled with this distance gap on the weekend with 70-80 metre approach shots and would like your advice and others on what I should do.

I play at Heidelberg and the bunkers tend to be firm. I mostly use my lob wedge out of these as it has 8° bounce compared to 14° with the sand wedge. The rest of my set is made up of 11.5° driver, 15° 3-wood, 19° TM Rescue3 and 4-iron to PW. I'm comfortable with not having a 5-wood and can put another club in my bag, so was thinking a 50° or 51° gap wedge. But is four wedges crazy for a guy playing off 22? We're also going to couch fairways over the next 3 years.

Thanks for any advice.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Right ball for me?

As I've played most of the balls mentioned in previous posts I thought I'd chip in.

Precept U-Tri Extra Distance - medium feel, good distance with long irons and driver, good spin on chips and wedge shots. My current ball.

Precept Laddie - Soft feel, great distance, little spin on chips and wedges. Good ball for the beginner. New "extreme" version out.

Srixon AD333 - medium feel, good for distance but less spin than the U-Tri ED

You may also want to try the new Titleist NXT or SoLo, apparently quite good but a bit pricey for what you get. Not a big fan of Maxfli balls as they go eggshell brown in colour for some reason. The equip2golf website (http://www.equip2golf.com/) has several good ball test you may want to look at.

Topic: Golf Equipment / SO WHO'S A FAN OF THE PING G2 DRIVER?

Having been playing the G2 with stock TFC100 regular shaft and it is by the the longest and most forgiving driver I've hit. Demo'd it against TM R5 and Cleveland Launcher 460.

My mate Saaam (also on this forum) has also just put an order in for one with the Grafalloy regular flex shaft after demoing Titleist 905T, TM R5, TM R7, Callaway BB454 and Mizuno MP001.

Recommended retail is $599 but you should pick one up closer to $500.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Club Fitting

I purchased my TM RAC's OS2's in March and also started having lessons with my club pro. His advice was to leave them standard lie and length until we see what my swing does. My previous irons were 0.5" shortened and 2° upright. So far seems to be fine, controlling the clubs well, and sticking to my swing changes too (mostly).

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vokey Wedges

I use a raw Vokey 260-10 (60° loft, 10° bounce) currently and it is a great club. It's my goto club in the firm bunkers we have at Heidelberg and also works well off firm and hard lies.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Ping G2 Driver - shaft options

C'mon guys, having seen all the threads about Aldila, Graphite Design and Grafalloy shafts I thought this topic deserved a better response.

I've played with Saaam and he can spank the ball nicely. On a luanch monitor his swing speed rated consistently between 90 to 94mph. I would describe his temp as smooth and moderate, not too quick or slow. He does tend to have a long backswing, often going past parallel, but controls it well.

Anyone played a Ping G2 with the Grafalloy ProLaunch shaft? How about the stock TFC shaft in stiff?

Anything further to add Saaam? (Hope you didn't mind but know you've been busy studying)

Topic: Golf Equipment / Whats the difference between forged, blade, etc?

Having just switched from forged cavity back irons after playing them for 3 years to cast cavity back irons (TM RAC OS2) I believe a well struck shot with a forged iron does feel softer. I'll miss this feeling with my old Precept's, but won't miss their lack of forgiveness.

Topic: Golf Talk / The Best Shot you ever played.......

Played the back 9 on Friday at Victoria Golf Club, having popped two panadols, with a migraine and feeling like I was going to puke after every shot. Played it one stroke at a time and our ambrose team used all my drives bar 2 just to get the other guys on the scorecard. We finished tied for the best score but were relegated to second on a countback. Isn't golf wierd!

Topic: Golf Classifieds / PLS READ - Min. 20 Post Count

Good idea! I was thinking of raising the topic of perhaps having a previous post history to buy something offered for sale. Why? Because recently someone who wanted to buy an item I had for sale on this forum wanted it sent COD. He had signed up 2 days beforehand. I decided to not proceed and the other party understood my reasons as all the risk of the sale falling over was on my end.

A previous post history does provide some reasurance of the person on the other end of the transaction.
