Whoever gets it - his nickname should be Ed or Smithy, as in Edward John Smith.
Book your July skiing holidays now you yellow and black losers.

QUOTE: Jerry Springer @ Jan 31 2007, 11:04 AM

Never does the preferred line in change from the left side to right side of the fairway due to pin location.

When you play RM, KH, Barney, even Ranfurlie the preferred side of the fairway changes with variations in pin location. To my way of thinking this makes a course interesting by adding subtle variety that small, often severely sloping greens, cannot hope to match. STAB is certainly very difficult, but it lacks the variation and strategic interest that is offered by other courses

Of all the junk written on this course finally some accurate assessment. I've only played it once but I agree with Jerry. The pins make no difference at all Imagine playing the course with no flags, just cups and the approach shot on 1 4 5 8 10 13 15 & 16 never change. Good players get frustrated by the sameness of play and weak golfers never worry because they hit few greens anyway and never attempt / cant attempt to deliberately shape approaches anyway. Hang in there Jerry baby. These other fools are all Doak wannabes

You could make it more realistic by including scarified greens, slow and full of bare patches and poa. The greens are is disgraceful nick. Royal is in danger of losing number 1 ranking to kingston heath if they dont do something fast

You're honestly not that dumb are you?

He is. Warne and other prominent people bank on fools like this buying the crap they dish up.

yeah youre right. Aussies look like they are really struggling with leadership currently. Especially in comparison to England. As for Waugh, i'm sure he led us to 16 consecutive wins because he has *no* idea. how could we be so dumb to think anything else rolleyes.gif

Ricky Ponting as captain - the bloke has *no* idea. Luckily, the rest of the world cannot play. I put Steve Waugh in that category as well.

Waugh? They are not thought they are insane ramblings. the heat has fried your feeble little mind

Actually, Kerry never played the course. Wasn't well enough apparently, a great pity.

I know that and it is a shame but I cant see kerry's hands off the wheel when the course was being planned. Do you know if KP ever did a lap of the course in a cart and if so what he thought? Harrison must have been given some feedback. thanks also for all the photos in the post too alex they are great

- Surprisingly, a lot of holes that shape left to right, contrary to the view that Norman designs courses and holes to suit draw/hookers!

Norman would have shaped a number of them whichever way Kerry told him to.

QUOTE: Moe @ Jan 4 2007, 11:54 AM

He was found guilty of taking a masking agent, by definition this may have been masking something else and thus the term drug cheat.

The timing after a miraculous recovery from a shoulder injury where steroids would have signifcantly aided his recovery didn't help his defence.

I'd like to think he was innocent, but most of the evidence suggests he probably wasn't.

moe for once you are 100% correct. Fyriuppu or whatever ya name is, you are the new village idiot, and one of the hghest order. mrdenn1ss take a rest. there's a new clown in town. Why do you think diuretics are banned? Warne is the best bowler ever and youre a stupid fool. Shut up and think rather than typing. Jack your bit that Warne is too stupid to cheat on his own is right. that raises the more interesting question about which medico gave him the tip on how to make a superfast recovery with the thrills and spills. There's a juicy little side detail noone ever raises.

yeah might hit reverse on Yallop. facig gun attacks at times in 39 tests for 8 hundreds and 9 50s with an average of 41 when leading a sh!t team. Matthews is still dining out on the 10for in the tied test in madras. 61 wickets at an average of 48 from 33 tests has you on the money jack

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / What constitutes "The Sandbelt"

QUOTE: porkchop @ Jan 2 2007, 10:49 PM

There is nothing at Metropolitan or Huntingdale that epitomises the best of golden age golf architecture. Spring Valley and Woodlands are better courses architecturally. And outside the main paddock of Royal Melbourne and parts of Peninsula and Victoria, the land isn't really that great. The sandbelt might be the most overrated and overhyped collective of golf courses anywhere.

thought i'd quote the last post to preserve one of the more argumentative contributions here. Ken you should have a look at Paul Daley's book on the sandbelt for a good discussion. the sandbelt website link is a bit trashy. woodlands should be there, and if peninsula is there, so too must be long island keysborough and some others. Possibly even southern ohmy.gif

indirectly most would as more bunkers means more equipment and more staff as well as more time. it also means they must employ more CAD jockeys. not everyone gets a flat fee per design job.

another thing - it takes thought to build a one bunker green that works well. the angles green shape and slope need to be right for it to work, and not everyone obviously has that skill

a few observations from the 4 rounds I've played at sandhurst in the last 4 months with the first being theres almost no break in the greens. didnt need to repair a pitch mark and all my chips and pitches bounced hard and rolled fast. they rolled tru but were reely slow. the best way to go into the sixth green is from the second fairway and the 9th fairway is to narrow. all in all an ok course in good nick. too short from the usual members tees but it was freakin hard in a strong wind during the vic mid-am
