Almost,Take the 5w off the tee by all means if you can hit it straight go 4 it, just dont try for extra grunt to go a few meters further. The idea is to swing easy without over powering it.The tee shot is for position only, it’s the second that needs thought. eg: If your about 165 out to center of green, but you cant see the base of the flag, your tossing up between a hard 6i to run up onto the front, maybe a sweet 5i to the center? what if the flags at the back? maybe a soft 4i? Take the uncertainty out of the shot and pull out a 7i, swing sweetly and aim for the front of the green, your 3rd shot will now be a shortish pitch or lob to a flag that you can see, get it close enough and you may just 1putt for a regulation par, or birdie with hcp. Either way you still have 1-2 shots up your sleeve for par The trick is even if you stuff shots 1-2-3 you can still scramble a par I only go at the green if my second shot is an 8i or less. Correction to my post above I went from 25 -12 in under 6 months. |

Topic: Allegingbows Journey AB Just make sure you keep your expectations real. It took / takes years for Ex world #1 Tiger Woods to “Dial in Swing Changes” so don’t expect it to happen over night with us mugs. All looking good mate and certainly going in the right direction! |

Topic: Allegingbows Journey That is definitely true about the divot. As the saying goes – you gotta hit the little ball (aka the golf ball) before you hit the big ball (aka the Earth)! Very important. Hit the ground first and it’s called hitting it fat. Hit the ball a bit too high is called thing. Way high is a top. The pros say “Thin to win”. Better a bit thin than fat – although I think that’s for full shots not so much wedges! One of my best thoughts at the moment for my full swing is to swing it like an 8 iron. That short controlled swing works wonders all through the bag. Whereas when I swing it long everything goes to the crapper. I don’t ever need my hands to go higher than my shoulder on the backswing. And I don’t care if they go shorter than that. Still plenty of time to accelarate. After all, you don’t see the axemen at the show swinging their arms way back behind them. If your arms move through 90 degrees range of motion (ie from 6 o’clock at setup to 9 o’clock) I reckon you’ll get huge consistency and you can easily get plenty of power. Have a look at Alvaro Quiros. He is a huge hitter and it looks like a 3/4 swing. |

Topic: Allegingbows Journey AB, was it you who was talking about practicing with a 9 to 3 swing? It’s an option you could try with the longer clubs you are not so consistent with. Although if you hit a good consistent 5 wood then there is no reason you can’t get good position off the tee with that. |

Topic: 2011 ISG Weight Loss Challenge Jan 8 – I am currently 90.2kg Did a hospital diet for a week and have dropped a bit (based around vegetable soup). Need to keep control of the diet and do at least one additional run each week. Want to get it down to around 77.0kgs and then my job will be to maintain it under 80kgs from now on. No more ignoring the scales either. Weighing in at least twice a week for the rest of my life so it never gets anywhere near 90kgs again. |

Topic: 2011 ISG Weight Loss Challenge I flatlined for a bout a month at 91.6, then lost heart and went UP to 94…..now back to 92.6 (in just 4 days!!!). Just keep at it AB…...and take a good look at that thing that is holding you back. You know it’s there and you probably know what it is….is it worth giving up to progress in your weight-loss journey? |

Topic: Allegingbows Journey G’day AB Just a couple of things to note with bunker shots. 1 – You said you opened the club face, one thing many golfers do is open the club face by turning their hands instead of turning the club in their hands. If you turn your hands only then your hands will return to their normal position so the clubface is still closed but if you open the clubface and then regrip the clubface will remain open at impact. 2 – Don’t quit on a bunker shot always follow through, I think that is why the hinge & hold works so well for me, you must continue with the shot after contact with the sand, I aim to throw the sand onto the green. Hope that helps :) |

Topic: 2011 ISG Weight Loss Challenge Ok, so I’ve decided to keep a food diary after slowly creeping back up to 94kg!!! In just a few days I have dropped back to 92.9kg….Makes a HUGE difference when you don’t want to write down the bad things you’ve been eating AND I’ve been drinking heaps more water as I have to record that also!!! Give it a go if you’re a bit stuck…just remember if you don’t write EVERYTHING down then you’re only cheating yourself!!! |

Topic: Allegingbows Journey Hey AB, good progress mate… Can you do a couple of swings “down the line” (DTL) and make the videos from when you walk in and set up till when you have finished the follow through? Also a still picture of set up from the front and DTL… My advice? Relax a little bit more, you look tense and stiff. You are a big guy, don’t stress too much about how far back you swing it, if you are in sequence and everything works together into impact, you will hit the ball a ton anyway… NEVER hit a ball at 100% effort/speed, getting the ball on the clubface efficiently is far more important than trying to muscle it. Keep the tempo, it is good. Bunkers? Trouble getting out? Mate at your handicap the goal is just get the ball out and have a putt for the next shot. It can be a trap trying to “get it close”. That comes a mile down the handicap line. Average distance from the hole on PGA tour is 8ft, don’t put so much pressure on yourself getting it close. Out in one and on the green is enough for now. Feel free to tell us how you currently play the shots (technique wise) and we can refine it to a get out plan. Finally, don’t be too hard on yourself. It is a learning experience where sometimes you have to go backwards temporarily to go forwards. I am currently rebuilding my swing, yeah it was okay and yeah it functioned alright, but it didn’t give me the consistency I wanted day in and day out. Currently feels so foreign and there is always a temptation to revert back (especially when you are shooting low) but you need to look to the long term and suffer some temporary pain for some long term gain. Are you getting lessons? |

Topic: Allegingbows Journey Incredible transformation. You must feel the lag pressure in your hands, preferably the first segment (proximal phalanx) of the right index finger. It’s the secret to golf. Overswinging. Try to get the left shoulder down under if you can. Not that big a deal, but shorten the backswing a little. Still swaying off the center somewhat. Nice improvement. Which causes a chicken wing: And do this training for lag and proper pivot. No aiming going on here, just muscles and sequencing: 3 sets of 10 a day, three days a week for 8 weeks. With a little practice and “mind’s eye in the hands” you could hit a ball with it. No hip rotation except as naturally required, knees remain bent. “Get into the inside of the right hip joint.” Jimmy Ballard Finally, stick the butt out and keep it out. Need a DTL video. |
