A real shame that it’s come to this. I guess it could be called Americanisation…

Unfortunately someone who was covered by their membership insurance has paid out not for the drinking bit but for hitting somone and causing damage. Used to be if you were hit while walking your dog you were the idiot.

Scene : Courtroom Scenario: Golfer vs Insurance company – golfer having maimed someone

Insurance company Lawyer: “So you were drinking whilst in charge of a deadly weapon.” Golfer: “no more than normal”

Verdict – Golfer pays 2mio in damages.

This one is just a matter of time that a golfer who is actually carrying Pub Liability insurance via his club membership gets done for. Already those not covered have been so. Sucks big time but makes you think just a little more about having that extra dram.

I think that scenario is a bit OTT, in my opinion. Especially given that most golfers don’t have as much control over their shots as they’d like to have. Personally I’d be surprised if the case wasn’t just thrown out.

Every time I play I pack beers. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes against. Now that I’m getting a bit better and focussing on getting my scores down, I’m gonna try cutting down on the beers and see how it goes.

sometimes l play better, sometimes l play worse, but l have more fun with a few drinks, the best game of golf l ever had was on a golf weekend away with the boys we were shot gunning cans at 7:30am after we stopped drinking at 4:30 That morning absolutely blind up at Swan Hill. l was two over after the first five holes then l fell apart but it was good fun and there were no serious knobs in sight.

Absolutley no problem with the idea, and I’d love to be able to. Unfortunatly, even after a whiff of the good stuff, co-ordination goes out the window. I don’t have the guts to try. Love it when others pull beer/s out of the bag though.

Mabye one day.

i don’t see a problem with having a couple of bevos in a round depending on the occasion and the company your keeping. Playing in an away comp couple of years ago i was playing absolute shite, i couldnt hit a barn door with a cricket bat,the drinks cart came round, a playing partner offered a rum n coke with four holes to go i thought why not it couldnt possibly get any worse, i ended up goin par birdie par par for the final four holes.

Every time I play but not before the 3rd hole or 3 straight pars…..you gotta EARN it!....I’m an 8 o’clock tee time….3 times a week…..usually someone has got either ‘homemade’ JB and coke or home brew….if nothing else it relaxes the mind….I personally try to drink a 365ml of water between beers (keeps the trees green)....and always grab a ‘draugfhtee’ going past the club, both 9th and 14th (someones has gotto support the club)....the boss picks me up at 2 o’clock….a good day out!...no wonder I love golf!

All for it, a few Jimmies on the way round keeps the energy levels up, I stay away from beer though as it seems to have the opposite effect and saps energy levels making it a much harder walk.

I am dead against drinking whilst playing. Golf is a sport you don’t see footy teams taking beers on the field so why should golf be any different

And you sound like such a fun bloke.

Maybe stay off the grog whilst posting and you wont see double….......

Nothing like rum & Cokes, screwdrivers, tiquila sunrises, etc. when playing a round with friends and stay within golf-cart distance of the course.

If you Aussies want a real challange, try shot golf. If you want a shot off your score or if you want to rehit – take a shot.

I often feel as though I should start earlier.

Usually wait until about the 8th before cracking open the first (approx. 8:00). Don’t very often shoot the lights out round the front to fall off on the back. Often the other way around though.

My regular Saturday partner and I usually know withing a few holes on the front nine if the back nine is going to be a “Jack & Jimmie” outing, or a Gatorade run. Fortunately for both of us, at least as far as reasonable golf is concerned, the Gatorade has been in the bags for the last two or three weeks! 8)
