QUOTE: drew74 @ Mar 14 2007, 10:19 AM

play 30 games and drop the pre season games all together.
Everyone plays each other twice.
16 is the perfect number of clubs.

no chance. the only way they will have a comp where everyone plays each other twice is if it goes back to 12-13 teams.
you cant expect, in any sporting organisation, to go straight into your first hitout for points, with out some trial runs.
i agree with you on the fact that i think they should play each other twice, but it just cant happen at the moment.
even if you did drop the nab cup, clubs would still want 2-3 practice matches to get players right for rnd 1. you would still be short the 1-2 weeks needed, and there is no chance of extending the season.
the grand final on the last sat of sept is the only tradition left in footy.

now if we were to get rid of:
nth melb (gone soon anyway)
freo (how a team with one player win like they do, i dunno...plus i just hate them!!!!)

and merge...
carlton and collingwood, we might be getting somewhere!!!!!!! tongue.gif tongue.gif

Topic: Golf Talk / Single Figure Handicap! What it takes!

i got myself down to 4-5 by playing sat, and sometimes sunday, and a practice session during the week.
since october, when i started practicing 3 times a week, and playing twice, at least, i got down to 2.
back out to 3 now, but what i have found is the reason i manage to play to handicap more times than not is the fact that i can get it around, when i am struggling.
last saturday was one of my worst ball striking days for months, but the fact that i got it around and made some big putts meant i shot 73.
so in other words, keep your tee shot between the trees, get your second on, or near the green, and get up and down!!!!!
not that hard tongue.gif

Just settle down Butchy wink.gif

If he does his knee in the next NAB cup game I am holding you personally responsible!
Now to the question of what the NAB cup taught us:

That playing Zac Dawson on top full forwards last year and getting whipped has not taught him anything or been a good learning experience, or been the making of him - he still is not a full-back's bunghole. Play him on the wing or in the seconds please.

yeah, one thing i forgot that we have learned, or in this case had confirmed...
no matter how much clarko wants it, zac just aint got what is needed to be full back.
when the ball is in the air, he is okay, but have you ever seen a bloke panic like he does when the ball is on the ground.
gilham to fullback, zac to box hill full back!!!!

now...back to buddy!!!!

hey, good on him. as i have said, and you can check the threads, if he shut his mouth and just let his golf do the talking, he would gain alot more respect. good to see that it has happened.
i just wish they wouldnt talk to him on tv...i dont like preachers!!

and about my buddy, buddy, tell me a player that has shown what he has in 2 and a bit seasons.

Why? he kicked 5 goals in a practice game? 4 in the last quarter when the game was almost over and the pressure off?

If i was a neautral supporter, I would be far more impressed with Waite, Sandilands, Davey at Essendon, etc. Much more real talent and ability to improve that a one quarter wonder

what i was impressed with, was the fact that for 3 quarters, he played okay, but when he needed to step up for the side, he did. we were 12 points down, and he kicked 3 in 8 minutes to have us a goal up. i dont think you would call that when the game is over!!!
he kicked another later on when the game was gone.
and not only was it his last quarter, but his tackling and chasing during the game was phenomenal!!!!
one right in front of me, he sprinted 120m to lay the tackle, on the half back line.

another good one, if there is not many people around, and you wanna play two balls is worst ball.
tee off with two balls, and then proceed to your worst drive, and play 2 shots from there.
then once again, proceed to the worst result.

very easy to think your hitting the ball well when you hit 2 balls and always take the best one.
find out how good you really are in this kind of game!!!!

cant work it out, personally.
why would you have the country's best golf tournament on good golf courses, and not on the best.
imo, NSW, royal melbourne and kingston heath should be at the top of the list.
i guarantee you also, that if you put the word out that royal melbourne is hosting, there would be a bunch of internationals trying to get there for a game.

Topic: Golf Talk / Best swing on tour

best swings i think are elkington and scott. technically the best, i think.
tiger's is great, but i think the way he can pretty much make the ball talk is why i love watching him so much, and not his swing!!

and just quickly, if you were to ask what a teacher to teach you the way ernie swings it, they wouldnt dare!!! yes his swing looks good, and so easy, but as is the same with goosen, both have a major flaw at the top of the swing. so technically, ernie does not have a great swing, but as with goose, dimarco, furyk etc, they all make it work, and that is all that matters!!

QUOTE: Jeffrey @ Dec 13 2006, 06:17 PM

Shame on both Butchy and Fyrpu.

How could you leave Peter Hudson out. Disgraceful act boys. here is my 30 second go. Also tipping that Wallace would edge both Jarman and Bucky out of the centre spot.

Ayres Langford Collins,
Mew, Knights, Hodge
Crawford, Wallace, Dipierdominco,
Buckenarra, Brereton, Jarman
Dunstall, Hudson, Platten
Salmon, Tuck, lethal

Scott, Kennedy, Allan, Gary Ablett

um, gary ablett was $%#@ at hawthorn, and peter hudson, from what i know (i wasnt alive to see it!!), had retired by 76.
if you have ever heard many of the recent hawk greats who the best player they played with was, most will nominate either jason dunstall, or jarman. in all of dunstall's time at the hawks, he rates jarman the most gifted player he played with.
i wanted to put hodge in there, but how can you go past the likes of greene, kennedy etc.
mew has to be chb. knights can play anywhere. if mew wasnt at chb, then he wasnt playing!!!
how can you not have pritchard in there. in my mind, the most underated hawthorn player during their golden era, along with peter curran. if not for ablett, in 89, pritchard would have a norm smith, and i think he was unlucky to have not got the 91 medal!!
i tried to sneak wallace onto the bench, but only 4 spots unfortunately!!

B- Ayres Langford Collins
HB- Greene Mew Kennedy
C- Pritchard Jarman Dipper
HF- Buckenara Brereton Crawford
F- Platten Dunstall Curran
R- Scott (dvc) Tuck (vc) Matthews ©
INT- Hall, Knights, Eade, Salmon
COACH- Allan Jeans

Being born in 82 means i dont remember much of them up to 87 or so.
For that reason, i may have missed a few from the 70s-early 80s.
By the way, i could have put about 15 on the interchange, 10 more emergencies, and they wouldnt have looked out of place!!!!!!!

Topic: Golf Talk / Professional Lessons?

GET LESSONS!!!!!!

i started at my golf club with a handicap of 23 in 2001/2002.
thru lots of practice, and life of playing sport (hand eye coordination), i managed to get myself down to 12 on my own. at this time, the new club pro introduced himself to me and said to come see him.
thru lots of hard work with him, i gradually started coming down and for the last 2 years have been off 4-5. it takes a while to get rid of all the bad swing habits, which i had many!!!
i still see him regularly, and just recently, with some more work on my swing with him, i am now playing off 2!!
he even has videos of my swing from 2 yrs ago, and i feel like throwing up when i see them, compared to what it is like now (and still plenty of work to do!!!!).

the only thing you need to remember though, is that it wont happen straight away. just cause you get a lesson or 2 doesnt mean you are going to get on the course and rip it up.
find a teacher you like, and stick with him/her, and stick to the drills, lessons etc they give you. it is not uncommon for major improvement to be shown until 8 weeks after that first lesson!!!!!!

the longer you play golf without getting some lessons, the longer it will take to get rid of all the bad swing habits and compensations!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Topic: Golf Equipment / In need of a new driver

QUOTE: Sven @ Nov 28 2006, 12:15 AM

I so disagree with this comment...you know why...the modern driver is the most forgiving club in your bag...its easily the largest...I see this comment all the time "learn to hit 3 wood" and its bad advice I reckon

the head on a 3 wood is much smaller and for high handicappers your just as likely to mishit a 3 wood...which then leaves you still a mile from the green

buy a 11 or 12 deg driver and learn to hit a controlled fade which will still go 30 meters past the 3 wood and make the game far more enjoyable to play.

You can even get some drivers in 13 deg...which will still go a loy firther than a 3 wood would and you cant miss the ball with a 460 cc head

definitely agree there!!!!
if am nervous at all on a tee, whether it be on the first in a tournament, or club champs etc, or on the last sitting a few under and not wanting to stuff it up, i will always pull driver, whether i have been hitting it well or not.
it has the biggest face, the biggest sweet spot, and therefore, the biggest margin for error. as long as i commit to the shot, the worst result will still be 240m, and an iron in my hand!!
if i was to hit an iron in the same situation, i may chunk it, hit it thin, heel it, toe it etc. any of these mean i am in no position to be making par!!!!

c'mon postie, we are past that now.
my dislike for macgregor first appeared when their appauling ads appeared on tv a couple of years ago, starring one badds.com (this was at the time that he thought he was everything, not realising everyone else didnt like him. now that he has won a tournament, people are off his back, including me, but just for now!!)
this was before they even came up with their latest offerings!! just ugly, ugly golf clubs.
as daryl kerrigan would say, 'what price are they asking???...tell 'em they're dreamin!!!'

robj obviously knows f&^k all about golf.
no offence to be taken by anyone here, except robj, but he is probably one of those guys who plays off 36, and only scores 16 points a game, doesnt like playing unless its from the back tees, even if he cant reach the fairway on most holes, and turns up in shorts, with black knee high socks on!!!!!
