Topic: CAMDEN LAKESIDE ....The nearby Macquarie Links makes CL look like a goat track in terms of conditioning. That may be true – but it’s quite the reverse in terms of design. CL is a pretty decent layout – I dont have an issue with them selling off some land but if they turn it into a P68 – I doubt if I will be venturing out there as much as I do. |

I agree with this assessment. The nearby Macquarie Links makes CL look like a goat track in terms of conditioning. |

Topic: CAMDEN LAKESIDE I am playing the monster in a months time…. great course and a shame to see it being chopped up… fond memories of the pretty tough coolum’esque closing hole. The stats say that only 30% of the purchasers of such homes actually play golf…. the rest buy so they are not built out… Oh well, plenty of choice out that way for golf courses. |

Topic: waterlogged bunkers 33-8/27 Local Rule Providing Relief Without Penalty from Bunker Filled with Casual Water Q. May a Committee make a Local Rule allowing a player to drop out of any bunker filled with casual water, without penalty, contrary to Rule 25-1b(ii)? A. No. The Committee may not make a Local Rule providing generally that flooded bunkers are ground under repair through the green as such a Local Rule waives a penalty imposed by the Rules of Golf, contrary to Rule 33-8b. However, in conditions of extreme wetness, where certain specific bunkers are completely flooded prior to the competition commencing and there is no reasonable likelihood of the bunkers drying up during the competition, the Committee may, in such exceptional circumstances, introduce a Local Rule providing that specific bunkers, which are known to be flooded prior to the competition commencing, are deemed to be ground under repair and classified as through the green. Therefore relief may be taken outside these bunkers without penalty in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i). In a competition played over more than one round, such a Local Rule may be introduced or rescinded between rounds. (Revised) The intention behind this Decision was to allow a Committee to make a Local Rule under extreme circumstances – no as a Blanket Rule for any amount of water. |

Topic: waterlogged bunkers Last weekend the committee decided “any bunker with visible water is treated as GUR – no other nomination. Some bunkers had small puddles with lots of sand but these were still GUR which I thought was over the top. |

Topic: waterlogged bunkers If a bunker is completely water-filled, the Committee may make a Local Rule deeming the bunker “through the green”, and the player may take relief outside of this bunker without penalty. This Local Rules may only be made for (a) specific bunker(s), and only for a limited time – not as a general Local Rule. Decision 33-8/27 |

Topic: waterlogged bunkers Rule 25-1b(ii)(a) states; you can also drop the ball in the bunker that affords maximum available relief, ie you can still take your stance in the water, or even drop your ball in the shallowest part of the water as it gives you maximum available relief. |

Topic: waterlogged bunkers Cobra, Rule 25-1b(ii)(b) says that the player may: “under penalty of one stroke, drop the ball outside the bunker keeping the point where the ball lay directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the bunker the ball may be dropped.” Johanna |

Topic: Taking clubs into a hazard
You were perfectly entitled to play the ball from the hazard. See Rule 26 Pros and low handicapper are not usually the best source of advice on the rules. 1) Always carry a rules book and ask them to show you the rule. 2) If you are not sure play a second ball under rule 3-3 and check with the committee at the end of the round |

Topic: Taking clubs into a hazard It is an exception to Rule 13-4: Exceptions: 1. Provided nothing is done that constitutes testing the condition of the hazard or improves the lie of the ball, there is no penalty if the player (a) touches the ground in any hazard or water in a water hazard as a result of or to prevent falling, in removing an obstruction, in measuring or in retrieving, lifting, placing or replacing a ball under any Rule or (b) places his clubs in a hazard. If it is a stroke play event you can invoke Rule 3-3 and play a second ball. Read the rule and ensure you follow the procedure. However if you are sure, stand your ground, play your ball and let the Match Committee work it out for you (they have to do that under R.3-3 anyway). I don’t have anywhere near their ability in hitting the ball, but I would trust a ruling from very few pro’s. It would always be open to you to politely ask the player who insists on a certain course of action / penalty to show you where it is in the Rule Book, otherwise the best course is to go to the Match Committee – that is why they volunteer (I hope!). |

Topic: Taking clubs into a hazard Your marker was incorrect. Your actions were within the rules. Why didn’t you take it up with your Match Committee? |
