Nah, never bought from squizzys. I got my balls today. Box of 200 titleists (non pro-v1’s). I had a hit of a few of them and was very happy with them. Definitely good enough to use on the course if you wanted to.

Yeah, sorry mate. Should have mentioned that I am only buying bulk standard quality balls for the range. I don’t have any experience with their higher quality balls.

I’ve bought from them before, and just ordered from them again. Couldn’t fault the quality of the balls. I was using them on the range, but ended up using a few on the course as well. Definitely recommend them.

Pep, you could try working on the reasons you’re losing balls, and reduce your costs that way.

i’ve had no probs with golf ballbusters. I did what your saying and brought a bulk pack of 200 top flites when i first started out, doesnt matter if you lose them at 30c per ball!

Topic: When should a beginner upgrade???

definately no bargain bin there ha ha..
my house wil be easy to spot it will have all the old shitty golf clubs hanging around it.. :)
if you hook it hard enough on the 4th youd have a chance of getting me
last time i went over the fence most the hazzards were on the greens, lol.. the greens were dead brown grass, i think they had one or 2 half decent condition.
1st few holes are a pretty cool tee shot through trees and over small little creeks. but tee your ball up a long way as they are on worn turf like hitting off concrete..

yeah most will be old n crappy, but good way to try a variation of styles at bugger all. then when your done use them to chase the dogs off your lawn, :)

save your money dont paly at the sylvania par 3.
my house virtually backs onto it, its a not worth the money or the petrol driving up..
good for a bux day where glf comes second or even 3rd, lol
you ‘d be better off at russellvale for a short course

i think Them 5$ bins are some of the best places to try out different clubs if your interested or to fill the gaps in your half set, grab a couple of different 6irons and have some fun at the range.
if your ever up sutho way go to kareela golf club he has a 2$ bin.
got an awsome cobra 9i that i leave at the oldies property to practice with, its better then the clubs i play with

i read your down wollongong, illawarra driving range has some good clubs in there bargin bin everything from few bucks up

Topic: When should a beginner upgrade???

Peppas,

I’d say most of us on this forum upgrade our wives and GFs, even more often than that…

now there’s a plan

January 2010 – 12.6
February 2010 – 12.7
March 2010 – 12.5

Wow… there’s a “life defining moment” on a golf forum :)

I don’t know if the g/f is going to like the advice I’ve been getting off here, especially seeing as I was just asking about upgrading clubs haha! :)

How old would vintage be, out of interest?

id say anything over 30-40yrs old.
i am using some 1960’s wilson blades 2-pw postage was dearer than the clubs, :)
i figure once i can hit them old bastards consistantly i’ll have saved up enough dosh for a nice new set..
everythinkg else like woods, putters etc etc i have bought from the classifieds sections here.
you always seem to get a good deal and most guys like selling to each other b4 flea bay.

i have tried a few different clubs that way and found a driver and putter i realy like for under $200 combined

Topic: When should a beginner upgrade???

Peppas, usually people tend to upgrade when they plateau. That goes for golf clubs, jobs, cars, almost anything. There will come a point where you will feel there is more out there, there is room for improvement, and by your question you are probably looking for the next level now.

One thing about golfer’s, we all like new toys, we all want the newest model, the longest driver, the best putter, in order to trim shots off our score and to become better.

As you only recently took up the game your initial improvement will be more rapid than most, and the “gaps” in your half set of clubs will soon become evident as you become more consistent.

It may be that you could take an intermediate step of buying yourself a cheap full set, rather than an expensive full set, and build up your skills with those, until now, missing clubs., or you may wish to bite the bullet only once, and get yourself a long lasting quality full set now that you say the bug has bitten.

Perhaps your golf teacher is a good resource to ask as he’ll know the current state of your game and your existing equipment. So long as he’s not trying to sell you something, he should be able to offer you unbiased good advice.

I would stick with equipment you have. If you want to spend some money spend it on lessons and balls at the range practicing.

When you get to the stage when you can make contact consistently and have worked out how far you hit each iron (e.g 3=210m,5=180,7=155,9=120..etc.) then you might want to look into either purchasing a full set of irons or the ‘missing’ irons (i.e. 4,6,8,PW.) to bridge the distance gaps between the clubs.

Until you can strike the ball consistently having extra clubs will be of no benefit.

Goodluck.

Topic: When should a beginner upgrade???

ha ha my wife used to love us playing golf, now shes not that into i get into some greef. but all good just make sure you try and organise a diner or day out every other week, keeps everyone happy…

As for the clubs dont do what i did every lesson i had and the more i read, i thought i was getting better so i upgraded clubs thinking i would get better with them about 2 years and 5 sets later i still hit my 1st ever set i had better, pitty i gave them to my mate.

so i bought some old vinatge irons to work with
i’m only now getting some consistancy but still not playing enough to keep it at a good level, im still overly obsessed with the game after 2-3years though, so look out you, do have our illness now. ha ha
