2007 nike platinum+ seem to be the most durable for me and has the reduced spin off the wedges as well. Also like the Cally 56 but cuts very quickly but with the firm greens atm spin is high with these until all the greens get cored and go to mush again! The Prov1×2007 is also good but not durable enough, as good as the 56 but too expensive.

Anyone tried the Wilson staff balls?

I played at a VERY Wilson Staff orientated club going back about a year now. While I was a member there, I played regularly with their TX-4 Tour Ball.

I’m a big fan of a soft ball and that’s just what they are – extremely soft. They were extremely nice to play with and decent value for a premium ball. However, I can fault them on two things:

1) They are a nice soft ball, but not very durable. For a premium ball, they do scuff and cut easily. They don’t last for too long.

2)They have a relatively dull finish and are easier than most to lose sight of.

I quite enjoyed playing with Maxfli Noodle Tour Balls, but they disappeared off the market. I have adapted now to playing regularly with Hx Tour 56s

Iv’e gone off Pro v’s lately, but still use them on big days. I got a box of Bridgestone E6’s a couple of months ago, and really like them. Have the 330’s as well, but did’ne like it the first day. (Had a crap swing day).

squizzys golf balls, i buy all my balls there, he has srixon ad-333 brand new $24 a dozen and callaway hx tour and hx tour 56 for $55 a dozen, brand new, his the best

I’ve bought new and used balls from Squizzy’s before. A good seller. Got some Pinnacle Exception AAA grade used balls, a random bunch of 50 Wilson AA’s for the shag bag, and some AD-333’s new for the course. Tho if you hunt around, new Srixon AD-333’s can be had for $18 per doz (plus post). Great ball for the price, hey?

If you do not dome it, most balls hold up well. If you dome it more times than not and rebound it off the tree’s, anything will be ok.

I am going to get some balls and put them in bucket for a week and do my own research, should be a fun exercise, let you know what happens

hmmm its about knowing for myself though as it might save me a heap of cash down the track

would never pay 90 bucks for 12 balls. If I did I would tee off with a putter to make sure I didnt lose them!!

cant afford that, I have hit a brand new pro v a few times and they didnt pefcform better than my AA ebay pro V balls I but for $60 (for 50 balls).....

Surely $84 per dozen for Pro V1 is not too expensive!

When you are putting them in a bucket of water for a week to test their durabilty it is expensive….

yeah I pay the same for HX tours and Hx hots from a well know ebayer I wont mention. I use the hx hots when its windy and hx tours when its not

Hit what you want mate. If it feels good to hit; use it. It will all come down to budget mate. I bought my first bag of PRO V1 2nds. They were graded as AAA and I am a fussy bastard! I’ve got no complaints about them. I paid about 50 bucks for 40.

what I find is the hx tours will scuff up a fair bit for about 4 or 5 holes then they dont seem to scuff up much more for the rest of the round. I have found the same with a pro V’s. I can buy those balls which have been hit 5 times for 1/4 the new price. Essentially your paying 6 bucks for 4 holes of golf then its a 2 dollar ball on ebay. Its crazy if you ask me unless you have the cash and like spending that sort of money on new balls…its new for 4 holes then its an AA ball on ebay for 2 dollars or even less.

...and could see no real difference with any of the balls that had good covers… As long as the cover is in good condition they seem ok.

I think that’s the point, when you pull them out of the water you can tell if they’re OK or not, you can see if they’ve degraded. When a 2nd hand ball dealer bleaches and polishes them, it’s harder to tell.

Like I said, don’t know if the article was BS. But I’m not suggesting the balls would get waterlogged… depending upon the pH of the water, there is a chemical reaction whenever you put something in water. How long it takes to have an effect I’m not qualified to say, the article did say there wasn’t a discernable effect for short periods of time. But eventually the ball will lose the surface qualities that made it a premium ball in the first place.

In general I agree with the prinicple, I don’t see the point in paying $8 for a ball I could lose on the third hole OOB, which will be scuffed up after a few holes anyway.

A golf ball is essentially made of rubber – it doesnt and shouldnt take on water so it shouldnt be any different, I have tried a few “new” lake balls and they played the same as newish ball also

Interesting to see that Muntz says that balls lose distance after being at the bottom of the water for months. I live next to a course and have collected thousands of balls from the water as the level recedes. I have experimented by hitting dozens of used Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls on the range as well as using new balls and could see no real difference with any of the balls that had good covers. My rule has become “if it looks like new it is probably as good as new”. I know the pros may change balls frequently during a round but as a 14 handicapper I could see no difference in flight , length or playability of the used balls and a new ball. Not really scientific but I would use a good used ball instead of buying a new one every game. As long as the cover is in good condition they seem ok.
