Topic: Golf Equipment / Rescue Club I have the non TP model in 19*. Slightly longer and considerably higher ball flight than the 3 iron. 3 iron is back in the bag due to the lower ball flight which is handy on my home course. My 4 wood has similar distance and trajectory to the hybrid. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Going to the Gold Coast psoul1, where are you going to be based? If you’re on the northern side of the Gold Coast (Hope Island, Coomera etc), then Brookwater is only an hour away. Glades, Robina Woods and Hope Island would be my picks if money was not an issue. Murwillumbah is a great little course and excellent value for under $20 |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Which driver loft? Warning – this post contains gross generalizations. The greater the loft the greater the tendancy for the ball to have back spin rather than side spin. Side spin will produce slices and hooks. For players who don’t have particularly fast swing speeds, adding some back spin will help keep the ball in the air. At some point, too much loft will result in a loss of distance. Far more knowledgeable people than me can tell you the optimal launch conditions of a driver – find these people and get them to help with your search. If your using a launch monitor, use the balls you play with (if you play with one particular type of ball). |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Hey fellow lefties If your looking for a new set of irons I have some Ping i3+ blades (really a shallow cavity back) 4 – PW, green dot (2 degree upright) with CS lite shafts that are 1/4 inch over their Ping’s standard length that are gathering dust in the garage. Would defintely suit someone in your handicap range. I am only selling as I don’t play regularly anymore (my new Boulevard M50 now rules my weekends) and have gone back to shovels as my handicap heads north. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Whats a good bag to get? I have an Ogio cart bag with a zipperless rain cover. It’s a good concept and easy to use – just not very well made. Fell apart within the first 3 months, replaced on warranty, and the new one is heading for a similar fate after just 3 uses. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Altering driver length Chucksta, Get some PVC tape 1/2 inch width and wrap it around the top of your grip. Each time you hit your driver grip it below the tape, as if the grip were to finish where the tape starts. You can vary the width of the tape to simulate various shaft lengths. |

Topic: Golf Talk / tips for match play There was mention earlier about strategies for the harder holes as that is where shots may be given on handicap. I was under the impression though that while the stoke index is based on hole difficulty, the matchplay index is usually the same on all courses and is based more on the order in which the holes are played. Can someone clarify this? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Wedge Confusion Kiwi – you hit your PW 75 metres max??? What loft is it? Most golfers would hit a PW (usually 46 -48 degree) somewhere between 100 and 120 metres, hence the prevalence of gap wedges between 50 and 52 degrees. Also, bear in mind many golfers add a wedge not because of loft, but bounce. This gives them some help in managing different course conditions such as soft sand in bunkers. Skilled golfers can usually overcome this, but for the rest of us – we need a high bounce wedge for the fluffy stuff and a low bounce wedge for the tight lies. This versatility will reflect more positively on scoring than carrying an extra fairway wood or hybrid for the mid handicapper in my opinion. |

Topic: Golf Talk / membership at the gold coast Gribbles, I drive to Colonial from Meadowbrook on Brisbane’s southside. From Coomera you would be looking at about 25 minutes. Also the mega membership gives you the same deal and access to comps on both Colonial and Robina Woods. Cost per game is about $10 more at Robina Woods. Goods deals can be had a different time of the year if you play out of peak times. I always play early to get the better price and avoid the crowds. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Wedge Confusion With a pitching wedge at 46 degree, I have gone for 50 mid bounce, 54 high bounce and 58 low bounce. Good golfers can usually get away with only 2 wedges because they can control ball flight. Choppers like me need equipment (read bounce) to manage the different lies and obstacles enountered around the greens. For mid handicappers, I don’t believe the distance control exists for shots over 190 metres, so it makes more sense to me to have a bias toward wedges than extra fairway woods / hybrids. |

Topic: Golf Talk / membership at the gold coast Yes I was an unhappy camper. Mostly due to the fact that there was no disclosure about the booking process for Saturday comps. 5.5 hours even for monthly medal indicates that the field is too big, mismanaged or both. I play at the Colonial on Saturdays (where you can even ring and book inside a fortnight) and never take longer than 4.5 hours. If your just looking to maintain a handicap, then perhaps consider a Mega membership at Colonial. About $130 per year, pay about half price when you play (about $55 including comp fees) and you get an AGU handicap. Same access to competitions as a full member, other than eligability for club championships. Cheap rates are also available at Robina Woods. I like this arrangement as it doesn’t require me to play the same course week after week to get full value out of a membership. |

Topic: Golf Talk / membership at the gold coast I too am a member of GGCG. Only join if you are happy with:
I’m giving you this information because when I signed up, my response to the question “is it easy to book for Saturday comps?’ was “yeah mate, no worries”. I have played one round there. Teed off at 11:42 am. Had to leave the course at 5:30 pm to get ready to go out and we still had 3 holes to play. No marshall sighted during round. I will not be back. |
