Topic: Golf Classifieds / Iron Set for sale - Tom Wishon Design

For sale is a set of custom designed Tom Wishon 550 forged irons, from 3 iron to SW. This matched set are peripheral weighted club from 3-5 iron and muscle back blade from 6 iron to SW. They have been used 5 times and some practise with the shorter irons. I would rate the condition as 8.5 / 10 with normal wear one would expect from minimal usage.

For information on Tom Wishon design clubs go to;

http://www.wishongolf.com/

The clubs have Lamkin leather wrap grips (standard size) and Nippon design shafts (popular on tour and 95 grams - equivalent to S300 flex). They have been frequency matched and assembled by a professional clubfitter. They would suit a golfer with a driver swing speed of 95mph -105mph, from mid handicapper to scratch marker.

Features:

-550C are a true forged carbon steel design, made from a softer alloy of Carbon Steel called 1035C with lower carbon content. This allows us to forge the steel tighter and improve grain structure to make the feel of impact like cutting butter with a hot knife.

-550C is a true Cavity Back design, which means it is forgiving on off-center hits and recommended for all levels of players.

- TWGT uses a 5-step forging process. This is one more step than most all other forged irons; the additional step is done to compress the carbon steel tighter in the head and reduce the amount of grinding that is required to prepare the irons for nickel/chrome electro-plating. This ensures more consistency of shape in every 550C forged head.

- The 550C is designed to allow golfers to "mix-and-match" with the 550M muscleback forged iron - to choose any number of irons from each model to make up the full set. Most typical will be to use the #3, 4, 5 from the 550C with the #6, 7, 8, 9, PW, AW, SW from the 550M.

LOL Damo. I've got a few among the mud crabs as well. Many a time I've had a good round going and just need to sneak through the last few holes without too much damage biggrin.gif ...then WHAM, into the mangroves again.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Sydney's sleepers

"Where is Long Reef in relation to the centre of Sydney ? "

Approx 25km North, right on the coast past Dee Why.

"How long a car trip to get there ?"

6 hours in peak hour. laugh.gif

"How old is the course, and who designed it ? "

Not too sure of the original designer, but it's early 1900's I think. Peter Thompson and Wolveridge gave it a touch up a few years back to toughen it up.

It would be one of Australia's only 'true' links courses - surrounded by water on 3 sides, on a headland, out and back and very few trees.

The wind is the equaliser. No wind and it's a pussycat. With any breeze, it's a tiger. Great course.

Karrie rates pretty highly on the 'no like' scale. Pity really, 'cause she plays pretty good. I love Laura.

I was referring to Gary Churcher. Is it possible that he was there before Browne. Is is also possible that I may be showing my age?

I believe he was there before Rod. As for the age question...Possibly 8O . But you're not Robinson Crusoe

Thanks for the compliment Dean.

As the current greens director at 'Royal' Reddy I can vouch for the condition. Superb at the moment. smile.gif

The timing of the recent rain was perfect, but a new computerised watering system, completed last November ($100k+) and a new fangled rough-mower have improved things out of sight. Just wait until we get the new computerised fertilising system...stay tuned.

One tip...bring the aeroguard or some spare blood for a quick transfusion afterwards

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Whats the worst course in Australia

" well for my money the worst course in Brisbane has to be Sandgate "

LOL. One of my best mates is the greenkeeper. I did say greenkeeper...he's it. No other staff, no money. Will be sold to the highest bidder - if there ever is one !!! But, strictly speaking it doesn't meet the criteria of an 18 hole course. It's a 9 hole goatey.

I've only played Leura, but I will always remember the view from the back of one of those greens into Megalong Valley ? The 14th ? I'm sure someone will correct both those hazy guesses.

I'd play it again every day if I could. If it's rated 4th, the others must be classics. 8O

Browny and I go back some way. I played Pennants there from 1992 to 2000, when I moved to QLD. Love the course and the members there. In fact I played there on the Xmas party day (got hammered at the same time). It's ike a country club in snobsville biggrin.gif

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Brookwater

Yep, Brookwater is a challenge all right. I've played it a few times from the blacks and it can be brutal.

My observations are (a) that the greens are struggling and will continue to do so with the tree cover and extreme heat that Valley creates, and (cool.gif don't play there on a hot day. No relief from the heat.

Anyone tried North Lakes yet ? I did last week. Wow.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / What's wrong with beyond the green?

Good point MM. I hadn't really noticed before, but now you come to mention it 'behind the green' does appear to be an afterthought in most golf course designs. Not all, but most.

I guess it's got to do with what Joe mentioned. Most greens are sloped to face you and 'over the green' doesn't get as much visual focus as the rest of the golf course. The courses where it does normally stand out as exceptional.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Sydney's sleepers

I've played every course mentioned in this thread to date. More than once. For sheer view value, it's Long Reef. Although Palm Beach is a brilliant little 9 holer in paradise. Layout wise, I'll take Newcastle any time.

I now live in QLD and am a member of Redcliffe. I'm still a member of Bayview. Redcliffe is a great layout, fantastic condition (I'm the Greens director biggrin.gif ) and $600 p.a.

If you're in QLD, look me up for a game.

You might want to try the Optima TS. Good price and durable ball, with distance and spin. They've been around a long while as well and very popular. I like a really soft ball, so they don't suit me, but my friend is a scratch marker and he uses them, so they're good for all levels.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Swing trainers. anyone use them?

I put together a 6 iron with the shaft filled with sand and some lead weight on the club head, plus added one of those special moulded grips (you know the ones that you fit your hands on for a correct grip). I use it in the loungeroom most nights and it seems to be a good way to stay in the groove.
