Topic: Golf Equipment / Driver shaft selection? Covert Tour Rob. I did a bit of a write up in the covert driver thread. First outing/impressions were, I thought it may have been a touch stout for me, feels smooth though – but after this morning, gold! There was wind on Thursday and it didnt balloon on me once into it. Today there was prob half a club wind at most, bores through it easily. Launch was low for a 12.5 degree setting but that also may be the head so take it with a grain of salt mate. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Nike's new cavity backed high speed driver. Recently bought the Covert Tour with KK 70g stiff off someone on this site. Have played 2 rounds of 9 so these are just early impressions. Current gamer a G20 10.5 deg with VS Proto 70g reg tipped playing at 44.5inches. SS is about low 100’s. Have quickly found my best setting is 12.5 with face closed. On the tour version I believe closed means square, neutral is 1.5 open and open is 3* open. I hit with a fade so wont be playing it at open! The size of the head at address is A LOT smaller than the G20. The way I hit the ping was grip it and smash it, no finesse… in 2 rounds Ive found this makes me think about swinging through rather than trying to belt it. I have also found that I feel more comfortable aiming to hit up with this driver and teeing the ball slightly further in front and higher.. at this early stage the signs are encouraging. Ball flight is fantastic, combination of low spin/launch head and the shaft. Launch even on 12.5 is low mid and climbs steadily before hitting the ground in a nice arc and rolling out. I also found there was hardly any fade and my last 3 drives when I was grooved were straight with very slight draw. Feel is very different to the Ping. With the Ping it felt as if the face had a springlike trampoline effect, the covert feels very solid – heftier and the face a lot harder. Sound is duller and more muted. Found it feels harsh of the bottom third of the clubface, off the top it feels the same as from the middle. Finally I will say what I was most surprised with was the forgiveness on this driver. Didnt misshit any today but thursdasy I hit 3 or 4 drives on each hole and misshits were surprisingly solid. My main miss has generally been topping and skying it occassionally. As big as the G20 head is, the face is shallower than what Ive gamed in the past, the Covert is deeper faced and thus my one consistent swing fault/miss hasnt eventuated yet. Hit a couple high on the face today that would have been skyballs with the ping. Win :) All in all, after the first 9 on thursday I was sitting on the fence, after this morning I’m pretty excited by this driver. |

There you have it, the self appointed neutrals have spoken, or one of them has, Francie is also a VICTORIAN so obviously he will be biased and back it up. In all seriousness, thats the point goldenads,(no pun) it was a close call in a close game, call the review to remove doubt. If the replay doesnt conclusively show anything then you go with the original umps decision and move on. |

Biased? Im not really arguing whether it was a goal or not, the 6pr team think it wasnt, I think it was, neither here nor there. I’ll wear the final call, like I have from the moment it happened – one decision never changes a game, there are 100+ mins of footy and countless other moments throughout that impact the game and result. We also played like crap so Im happy we still took you guys, a supposed top 4 side, to the limit. I think you and rest of the 6pr crew on here have missed the point and taken umbrage thinking hardwick and the tiges are bitching that that incident cost us the game. Dimma did not say that, he basically said when its a close call (and it obviously was) why on earth wouldnt you review it to make sure? and I agree with that stance. Not really here to argue whether it was or wasnt a goal(however, it was a goal imo, crossed the line before hitting the ump, you can see the swing on the ball). Point is If you are going to go down the path of a review system then do it properly and not half arsed. |

Not the point. A review is there for a reason. To review contentious goal line decisions. The afl have themselves come out and said it should have gone to the review, are they bitching abt umpires too? |

Never said he was a great coach nor that he’s elite, that’s still to be determined. Took umbrage at the half a coach dig. Should have been reviewed end of story. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Damien Hardwicks "joke" You blokes are having a laugh, that clearly should have been referred to the replay, regardless of whether it was a goal or not (it was a clear goal btw) even the afl have come out and admitted it should have been referred. How you can sit there and say otherwise is a bit of a joke. He simply stated we have a review system, 4 umpires in the vicinity and no-one calls for a review in such a close game. That IS a joke. Btw Dave, hardwick half a coach? Worst call of all time, but not surprising when it’s coming from a bloke who was having a crack at Jack Watts for finishing year 12 when his own club encouraged it. |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / ISG Vic OOM#2 - Heidelberg GC, 21st April 2013 Thanks to the committee for once again putting on a great day – really look forward to these events. Congrats to all the winners and those that shot above handcap in trying conditions especially early. Much respect. To Team Frank, I feel like I let the team down with my paltry 32points but thems the breaks, you have good days and tough days at the office. Francie, after a slowish start where you were probably a bit hard on yourself, you settled in well and played some very solid golf, a few close shaves on some of those putts and a solid round couldve easily turned into a high scoring round. Goldenads – my regular golfing buddy, great to share an OOM round with you, 37 points is pretty much there abouts and the base expectation each time you get out there these days. A few sloppy holes cost you a massive score but congrats on a solid round.(and officially becoming an honorary lefty) Gaz, played a fair few rounds with you now buddy and each time your game is looking more and more complete. Still, nothing quite like it when you occassionally open up the shoulders and really let one rip off the tee. After a slow front 9, you came home very strong. I guess theres no margin for error when you’re playing off a low cap. Myself, I was feeling pretty good halfway through 18 points with a wipe and several 1 pointers, felt I was close to putting together a good patch of holes but wasnt to be. Lost my rhythm, then started trying to guide it and that was all she wrote. See you all at Sandhurst, lets get a field of 72 to get a shotgun start! |

Topic: Sports Talk / Melbourne Demons - what to do?
He’s simply ot that good – Great athlete, sound skillset but doesnt have that killer desire to get the absolute best out of himself. Tambling had the same problem. Sometimes kids come through and they just dont have what it takes mentally ie the hunger and tenacity to make a fist of it. Watts went number 1 on pure potential, his athletic traits which were nigh on the best you could hope for for a player of his size 195cm plus his sound skill technique gave him a ‘perceived’ very high ceiling. He wasnt the best performed player in his draft year although he was always regarded as a first rounder but once the draft combine results came through his value went through the roof. Sub 2.90sec 20 metre sprint, top 3 for agility and all that sort of stuff. Probably just as important as any other reason you factor in Melbournes poor player development. |
