Topic: Golf Talk / How bad is the rough at your course? With the recent heavy rain in Melbourne, the rough at my course – Sanctuary Lakes, has gone crazy!! I would say its almost unplayable for an 18+ handicapper. Maybe this is just a links layout problem. How is your course looking? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Ping i10 Anyone tried them ? Theres a ping demo day doing the rounds this month. It will be at my course next week so I imagine will be around other courses in Melbourne. They will have both the g10 and i10 irons. There is significantly less offset on the i10 compared to the g10. I’m also looking at getting an i10 set. I didn’t think they were too expensive at around $145 each rrp here or about $820 delivered from the states. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Should 9 hole comp rounds count towards your handicap? My club has a 9 hole twilight comp each week. Does anyone know if this gets extrapolated into an 18 hole score for handicap purposes? If so, what formula would they use? Perhaps it assumes you play to your handicap for the other 9 holes. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Club throwing My mate has a bit of a temper on the course and can get some real distance with his driver. It’s a joy to watch. Must get it out around 60m i reckon. I haven’t let one rip yet but I reckon I went through 40 odd tennis racquets in my time as a tennis professional. |

Topic: Golf Talk / How good are brush tees??!! I buy white wooden tees by the thousand off ebay. They are so cheap I don’t even pick them up after I hit. Given I use 7cm ones and tee the ball reasonably low, I probably break around 15 a round anyway. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Anyone tried a Belly Putter I bought a 43” belly putter as I have a very bad back. I thought it would help me stand a little mkore upright as I cant practise putt at all. I reckon it actually makes you lean over the ball just as much, if not more. and I’m still useless at putting. Now that the spitter uses the same TM one as mine, I might have to reconsider. But its got the best looking grip in golf. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / 16 Degree Hybrid I bought the 16 degree srixon AD hybrid today. The one I already have is actually a 19 degree variant. I will go in blind, using it at a tournament up at murray downs on the weekend. Hopefully you wont see a post from me in the classifieds section on monday!! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / 16 Degree Hybrid
Not really no. I already have a 15 degree 4 wood which is good for 230m or so. It is however much more difficult to hit than my 18 degree hybrid and has a much lower ball flight. If the 16 degree hybrid is a similar challenge to the 4 wood I have, I dont think I will bother with it. For me, in order of difficulty from easiest to hardest: 18 degree hybrid – 180m 3/4 iron – 180/200m 15 degree 4 wood – 210-240m As I’m buying this specifically for long par 3s and maybe 170m par 3s into a raging wind (which I always have at my course), I don’t think the 4 wood will do the job. I’m hoping that the 16 degree hybris slips in marginally tougher to hit than the 18 degree hybrid but miles ahead of the 3/4 irons. Maybe I should stop being a tight ar$e and just buy the thing. Then ebay it if it doesnt work out. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / 16 Degree Hybrid
All good points. I find the shaft quite stiff and this is my preference. The confusing aspect of this is that my distance assessments are when I flush it sweet. There is no question that the ball flight is much higher with the hybrid. I actually have no issues with my current hybrid at all. It is so easy to hit, goes extremely straight and has what I consider to be a perfect high trajectory for soft landings. The only trouble is that I took my 3 iron out of the bag and I now have 2 clubs for the 180m shot and nothing for the 205m shot. My worry is that I buy the 16 degree hybrid and its a bugger to hit consistently well. At this stage, I have essentially replaced my 4 iron and still have a 3 iron in the bag! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / 16 Degree Hybrid
Thanks. My current hybrid is an 18 degree Srixon AD number ‘3’. The 16 degree is marketed as a 2 iron replacement but I imagine it will more than likely be similar in distance to my 3 iron. Is that normal? |

Topic: Golf Equipment / 16 Degree Hybrid Hi All, My original plan was to replace my 3 iron with a hybrid. However, after purchasing the club, I have found that distance wise, it has really replaced my 4 iron (around 180m). I am now considering buying a 16 degree hybrid to genuinely replace my 3 iron. Can anyone offer some advice on their relative ease of use compared to the 18-20 degree variety? Cheers |

Topic: Golf Talk / Sanctuary Lakes Membership Last I heard, they weren’t selling any more memberships and the developer ws leasing out the remaining ones. although i do notice the list of new members continues to get posted so maybe you can still get in on a new membership. You can always buy on the secondary market. You should be able to buy in for under 10k. Comments on the wind are certainly warranted. I live on the course and had my patio heater along with 9kg gas bottle blow over the other day – onto my glass table!! But the course is in great nick, course usage is relatively low and its certainly a challenge even with a little wind. |

Interesting. I shall investigate. Looks like to will need to get some practice with the hybrid to see if I can keep it low as well. Thanks guys. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / What does a hybrid replace?
Thanks for the replies. I think I have confused the matter. I currently have a driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid and 3 iron. No 4 wood. Sorry. My typo. I reckon my club distances are about average. It’s not rocket science to hit a 3 iron down the fairway on a par 5. My reason for getting the hybrid was to hit 190-200m into a green. The 3 iron stays reasonably low and is not always accurate enough to find the green (for me). So I tend to not use it and lay up, as there is alot of water around the greens where its needed (16&18 at Sanc Lakes). Dropping the 3 wood leaves a 60m hole in my club range. Losing the 3-iron costs me the 200m shot under the wind and the punch cuts from the trees etc. |
