I'd also like to thank everyone who has donated to this, and especially to Jack for setting it up and getting it going. It will be very much appreciated and will be a huge surprise for his family. Leah won't know what to say. Thanks again

Topic: The Lounge / Jaster Mereel

There may be some members who remember Jaster from a while ago. He was a large part of isg a couple of years ago. I'm thinking of guys like Judge, titthers, JJJ, Bebox, Heckler, etc who have been around for a while.

Leon Treadwell (Jaster) has been fighting cancer for over a year and a half now. It appeared in his appendix (very rare) which was removed along with a large section of his bowel. He has had several chemo treatments for at least 18 months.

Monday week ago he took a turn for the worst and on Sunday he passed away. His family was with him at the time.

He was one of my best friends and he will be dearly missed by those who were touched by his presence. He may not have been around here for a while but I thought that some that knew him back then would like to know.

He is survived by his lovely wife and 2 beautiful daughters.

Topic: Golf Talk / Is it time for a 5th major.."Australasian major"

I think the location of the WGC events answers your question. They were started so that some major events could be held outside of America and so that the top players in the world would have to travel to other parts of the world. At least that was what their purpose was.

This year 3 of the 4 WGC events were held in America, and I believe this is a deal that has been signed for several years to come.

So to a degree what you are suggesting has been tried but Tim Finchen (I guess it was him) overpowered it and brought most of the events to the good old US of A.

It is ALWAYS easier to play at the location of one of those clusters of people, and thus most of our events run that way. Using only the Sydney and Melbourne players as an example, it is FAR easier to get one group to travel to the other than to get both groups to travel. This is because it is a bigger difference to get people to go from staying at home to travelling half way than it is to get the others travelling half way to go the whole way.

I would agree with this statement. To get this sort of thing going, just pick a date and venue well in advance, contact the venue and make sure there will be enough places available and that no reno's are in the plans at that time.

I'd pick the venue in the city where the greater majority of participants live. You'd be surprised how many people will travel and how far they will travel from for this. But in the end you want to get the most people there, so go for the city where the most people are likely to attend.

Also nearby accomodation is helpful - if any drinking is going on it's easier to stumble back to your hotel.

Regardless of the date you pick there will always be some people who cannot attend. You can't accomodate everybody; it just dosen't work. Pick something well in advance and people will have time to plan for it. And if people are travelling and staying overnight maybe consider a couple of rounds. Make a weekend of it. It will seem more worthwhile and more attractive to attend. Even go for 2 different venues to mix it up.

Topic: The Lounge / That's all folks!

Well, of all the posts and threads tonite bebox saw fit to delete mine so her it goes again.

This place is 'spose to be a refuge for me. A place where I can escape all the crap I've had in the last seven months. I just have no more patience for the shit going on. I don't need it in my life as well.

I don't see what the big issue is. If you don't like a topic then don't read it. It seems pretty damn simple. I just don't understand how some people can't grasp it. ISG is big enough for everyone to fit without any of the fruitless clashes which occur regardless of banning threats, suspensions etc etc.

Quite frankly I feel the moderators have been useless through all the crap that occurs from time to time. I just don't understand any of this.

So I've reached my limit. You've managed to get rid of one of the qld'ers that didn't matter. You'll just have to live with the rest of them. Suck.

Since the thread is now locked I'll just have to congratulate Jim on the birth of his second child here. I sincerely hope all is well with the family.

(some of you will know this) On a personal note last month my wife and I lost our second baby in the 7 months, and it was our 5th in the last 4 years. It puts all this petty bickering into perspective for me. Other golf forums manage to live in harmony. I just can't understand why this one can't. Ban me if you want bebox. I don't give a shit. Maybe if some people get to read this before it's gone they'll realise how small this crap really is the scheme of things.

By the way, our baby's name was Jacob Thomas. And he meant more to me than this stupid forum.

On ya kev. 8) I'm happy to hear about any of them from anybody. I like the "Another" comment

Personally I would have thought that if you don't want to read about someones hole in one then you would avoid a thread titled "another hole-in-one". That would make sense to me. But hey, that's just me. tongue.gif

Topic: Golf Talk / Hows-a-bout PAMPS

I've been watching pamps since he was on the nationwide tour. My dad used to keep me updated about him. He used to play golf a lot at redcliffe and caboolture when a younger pamps was around (maybe in pamp-ers laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif ).

I just can't wait for him to win. And seeing that the leaders after 2 rounds are only on his first round score. Bugger.

Topic: Golf Talk / What have you WON....

I've won a couple of daily comps but that's about it. One competition I won I went up during presentations to collect my prize and they handed me a box of golf balls. Opened it up and it was half empty. I won 6 optima distance golf balls 8O .

I've picked up better prizes than that, but I figured that that was pretty ordinary so it was worth mentioning.

Topic: The Lounge / How does your bread get on the table?

I run a furniture re-upholstery business. Golf is on weekends when the boss allows but recently (last few months) I've been trying to get out early and practice at least 2 times during the week. It's good because I'm usually finished by 7 or so and get to work early.

The old slippery frog eh. Don't hear much about it anymore.

What's the COR on that thing?

I believe when jesper parnevic put in in play recently, he volunteered it for the usga cor test. Unfortunately it was too close to the line so he left it out of the bag (hate to have it deemed illegal during the round and be disqualified) and used one of his usual fuglies to putt with laugh.gif

Pull your own finger out jarro tongue.gif . I hadn't commented on this game yet (hence the maybe).

I'm in although I won't be a certain starter until the day. It will just depend on how busy I am at work. Unfortunately I don't get paid for sick days (unlike many of you guys   nudge nudge)

Topic: Golf Talk / 1st and 2nd rounds of my Club Champs **LONG!!**

The greens were definitley the difference today. Jasters outplayed his opponent tee to green without a doubt. I think he was a bit surprised how tough he had it. But when he absolutely had to make a putt he did. Sometimes it just not your day.

But jaster pushed him all the way. Quite frankly I thought the turning point in the match was gonna be on the 25th hole. He'd driven into the trees and then hit his second into long grass behind another tree. His only option would have been to chip out to just short of the green (his drive was only about 60mtrs short of the green). Jaster was just off the fairway about 30 or 40 mtrs from the green. His opponent conceded the hole without even making jaster play his 2nd shot. To me that really seemed like a down and out attitude. But then again, I wasn't playing.

In the whole match there was only really a 4 or 5 hole stretch where he got away from jaster. Other than that they stuck together.

The hard work is starting to pay dividends jaster. Keep it up (although maybe a little rest won't hurt ya  )

Topic: Golf Equipment / An interest article about shafts...

Isn't that callaway's old trick. Most hackers think they need stiffer shafts than they can actually handle. Put in a more flexable shaft and they think they hit the ball great. What they don't know won't hurt them. Shaft flex labelling is really not consistant anyway. My r flex graffaloy blue cpm's stiffer than my prolite45s or even a prolite35 S flex (as per dynacrafts charts anyway).

Don't beleive everything you read on the internet!!

You don't mean to tell me that there is false information available on the net. I don't believe it 8O
