Topic: Golf Talk / Relief from Divots

Its all swings and roundabouts. If you hit a tree and your ball bounces back out onto the fairway you’ve been rewarded for hitting a bad shot. You don’t then go and drop it in the trees because you should be penalised for hitting a bad shot.
You don’t get rewarded every time you hit a good shot, the same way you don’t get penalised every time you hit a bad shot.
That’s the game of golf.
Just because you hit a good shot up the fairway doesn’t mean you deserve a good lie. If you want a good lie every time you hit the fairway you should get a bad lie every time you hit it in the rough.
If you want a drop out of a divot on the fairway so your guaranteed a good lie every time you hit the fairway, then I want to tread on your ball every time your in the rough so your guaranteed a bad lie every time for hitting a bad shot.
I say take the good with the bad and play it as it lies.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Spotting Fakes!

How does the serial number work?
Couldn’t the scammer just go to a shop and write down a legit number (or find out a legit number) and then put it on 100 fakes. Then everyone thinks they have an authentic club.
Or does the website somehow register that number to the owner?

Topic: Golf Equipment / Blade V Cavity Backs

blades have a reputation of being hard to hit or alot less forgiving but i’ve found that there really is not that much difference.
i’ve previously owned cavity backs and now own a set of hogan apex blades. the reality is whatever club you have if you hit it sweet it feels good, hit it off centre it feels bad. sure you might get a few more metres from the cavities on an off centre hit but i don’t think there is a huge amount of difference.

Topic: Golf Talk / software for keeping your scores

easiest way is if you make a cheat sheet for the course. obviously you have to keep your own score and a players score on the card, which you hand in after the round, but:
print off a separate piece of paper which you keep so you can record fairways, greens, putts etc. on each hole, then enter it into excel or a software package when you get home.

Topic: Golf Talk / Kane Webber

Sorry to take this off-topic, but a few other names that i haven’t heard of for ages from country junior golf:

Michael Hanly (Muswellbrook?)
Kurt Barnes (PGA now?)
Simon Furneaux (Tamworth?)
Phoebe Furneaux (Tamworth?)
Jason Delbridge (Tamworth?)

Would be interested to hear what they are doing now.
Originally from Narrabri, I played alot of golf at Tamworth & the Longyard and Terry Hayes had an excellent reputation as a pro and teacher in the area. The players listed above were winning junior tournaments in the 90’s. Where are they now?

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / The Left Leg

if you let it be dragged up and then back down, are there any tricks to avoid hitting off the back foot.
i’m finding that the left heel lifts, then as it goes back down (after the top of the backswing) all of my weight is tending to shift to the back foot which seems to be causing a big slice. in some cases i think this has been the cause of shanks on my short irons (1-2 every 18 holes).

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / The Left Leg

Hi Guru,
I’m returning to golf after a 5 year break and also after a motorbike accident which has left me with a very stiff left ankle.
My question is directed at what the left leg and left heel should do during the swing.
Now that I have a stiff ankle, there is a tendency for me to lift my heel at the top of the backswing, to enable a full backswing. I then feel like on the downswing I’m starting to hit of the back (right) foot and slice the ball.
From what I understand, keeping the left heel grounded is important to hold the tension and generate power in the golf swing.
I guess my real question is, is it ok to lift your left heel on the backswing and will it leak power and cause a slice?

Topic: Golf Talk / Should 9 hole comp rounds count towards your handicap?

i don’t think nine hole cards should be counted. golf is a funny game and so much can change from the front nine to the back nine.
even excluding the ‘hand brakers’, you can play great golf for 7-12 holes and one or two shots can bring you undone in a flash, especially in a stroke round (e.g a shank).
golf is a test, over 18 holes, not 9.

Topic: Golf Talk / Kane Webber

It doesn’t matter if you think the course is easy or hard, you still gotta hit the ball in the hole. 11 under is super scoring anywhere.

I actually remember the name from Kane Webber from when I was playing junior golf around the Narrabri and Tamworth area, he was a good golfer back then too.

Topic: Golf Talk / World Long Drive - Aussies in action

quite a few are single figure golfers (some even scratch markers i believe).
my thoughts are that consistency and control are the issues.
they get 6 balls in long drive & may only hit 1 or 2 in the grid. on a regular course this may only translate to 4 of 14 fairways, and some of the misses can be ugly.
putting can be almost 50% of your golf shots, so if you can’t chip & putt bombing it 350m down the fairway is not a huge advantage.
in saying that it may also be application of themselves. they put all of their focus and energy into long drive. if they switched and put their focus into the whole game of golf they may succeed.
its an interesting topic.

Topic: Golf Equipment / where to buy graman shafts

Not trying to take business away from Tim (sorry Tim) but you could try Matt McDonald at Long Downunder Golf (he’s a long driver)
mattway@ozemail.com.au

I’ve dealt with him and know he stocks Graman shafts and is also very knowledgable and helpful. Graman UL540’s around $110 I think.

Hi, The head i have is for .335 so i don’t think it will fit.

Do you by chance have any other shafts that may be suitable (or know where I might be able to get one)?

Shafts in XX or XXX flexes seem to be hard to find.

Anybody own a X Speed 3+ from Cobra. Any opinions? Alternatives? There are a lot around on ebay from the Cobra fitting cart that have etching on the toe. I’m assuming there is no difference between them & the standard model from Cobra.

Thanks, Ashley.

Topic: Golf Classifieds / Hogan Apex Edge Pro 2i-PW S300 - $350

QUOTE: Virge666 @ May 16 2007, 09:27 AM

Have finally got the right numbers out of a set of Wishon 550c, so I will be moving to them as my playing clubs.

They are 2 years old and have been used on and off with my golf club "ho" mentality. They are all in good nick - say 8 out of 10 and teh 2,3 and 4 iron never really used. They are a 1/2 inch over standard with Star Grips installed

They are a heavy club at D5-D7 and would suit a player who likes heavier clubs. (No .. Really ?)

Are they the model that it is a true blade? Would you sell the 2 iron by itself? Is the 2 iron 1/2 inch longer?
