Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Rotation on the Downswing

Jeff,

I agree accept for the Hemi, femoral head. Isn’t a Hemi some part of a car engine? And, isn’t the femoral head the “alter” at which we all pray??? Aw, just kidding, ‘cause I’m a B.F.M.F.W.N.C.F.T.O. (well just a little).

Rotation on the downswing??? What about forearms and hands and clubface? What causes what and when does it happen? Rotation on the downswing?? Shift this tilt that?? Sheesh, what about the forearms and hands and oh, and the clubface?

I think I’ll got back to the alter……and do some more praying!!! Might try a little rotation.

yes Hemi is part of a car engine….. LOL

it is also part of music. a Hemi Demi Semi Quaver!

rotate the hipsss rotate the hps. hha

Topic: The Lounge / To help or not to?

Shooting this morning 50 meters from work, getting close to home…

It is a sad state of affairs that these things happen but should we help? If we do leap in and render aid be prepared to face the consequences. See article below.

http://www.news.com.au/hera...

Personally I do think we should help, but with two small kids at home I can’t help but feel this would be the wrong choice. Now there are two good Samaritans who won’t be going home to thier families.

Get the guns and drugs off the streets, it’s something I think we can all do without.

oh boy….. take care man…. MElb??

Julie, it’s a fairly crass term for what is more nicely described as a “yummy mummy”. In the strictest sense it should be “MIL2F”

I had my mother ask me what it meant the other week, and I just told her you don’t want to know.

hahahahahaahahahahaha you’ve just denied her knowledge!

Topic: Golf Equipment / Putters - what the hell is going on?

i can’t stress enough… get your putter fitted/weight to your swing and the putter needs to be the type of putter your little swing requires.

it will drastically reduce your strokes.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Does equipment really matter?

hehe…. welcome =)

everything plays a part – the player, the clubs, the ball

whatever is the constriction needs to be upgraded.

ball and clubs are always there. player needs to upgrade. once everything is on par, player always advances so time to upgrade your stuff to get what you need (more feel, more control?)

most importantly, get your club fitted to YOU! that’s your best investment

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Backswing and Follow Through.......

Hi fellas,

Does everybody out there have a full backswing (ie – club perched behind the neck) and full follow through (ie -club touching the back of your neck) on the completion of your swing?

For example, I think Tiger Woods and Adam Scott best convey the swing type that I question here.

How important is it to have a full swing? Do only the elite guys have it because of their flexibility?

I welcome your comments…..

you can always have a full swing to get max distance BUT you can get that only with a perfectly stable swing with no shaky parts. kinda like a smooth running engine versus one with loose bearings.

you get my drift.

the alternative power gain can be obtained by not swinging full but having a good solid impact. no rush, just smooth.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Pressure Points and Clubface Control

control the face with your mind first. tell yourself you want the face to face this angle before you start the swing back.

when you’re executing the swing downwards, control the angle of the face using your combined grip. ROTATE is the key. rotation allows you to control the face without adding errors into your swing like digging in, or going fat or anything of that nature.

good luck!

Do I tell myself that with my eyes closed or open or does my mind tell myself and then it tells my hands or does my mind bypass myself and go straight to my hands as a combination of fingers and thumbs with palms and heel pads and knuckles and nails with a little hair to ROTATE without error?

You’re right……...good luck, indeed!!!

HAHAHA…... anyway, i was taught to practice aiming at a target to my left when i was supposed to point straight. the ball is in the exact same spot at address.

practice empty swinging down and rotating normally. then try swinging down and rotating earlier. now try it with a ball.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / What powers the golf swing?

the power is in the hips.

the rotational torque generated between the shoulders and the feet.

The only thing the golf club cares about is where the arms/hands go and how fast they go there.

Torque power is a myth. The only benefit of rotational tension is that if the top position is sound the body is in a state where it wants to do the thing you need to do next. Which is to get the hips out of the way of the arm swing. EVERYBODY swings the club with their arms.

mmmmm may be true but i don’t get tired after playing for ages. my uncle gets really tired and he’s swinging real hard at every shot. i don’t, but i go further. maybe i’m younger too but it is also possible to swing the whole body at once instead of bringing the hips that little bit much earlier.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Putter question?

from what i know, you’ll have to know what kind of putter suits you. the balanced type or slanted type.

balance the shaft on your finger just like if you were going to weigh it. if the face stays facing up to the sky, that’s the balanced face type. if it slants down, that’s the other type.

find out which one suits you. finally balance the putter to your swing. any PING dealer should be able to do it.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Rotation on the Downswing

I did similar to aimr…so focused on not elvis legging it I took out all leg motion…hips were square from addreess until after impact.

The good news is, from there you can train the correct moves in properly…not a bad way to go as part of the fix.

haha yea…. the balance must go onto the front leg once the swing is finished. therefore the hip cannot be in the address position if the movement follows the swing.

final exams tomorrow morning…. wish me luck all.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / wrist cock

I am having problems seeing how the left wrist can be cocked and the right wrist not. Both hands are gripping the shaft, if the left wrist cocks and lifts the shaft the right hand must follow suit. Now if the left wrist is exactly perpindicular to the right palm then the action will bend the right wrist back instead of cocking it too but that is not exactly the case. What am I missing here? I do have a bend or angle in my right wrist/forearm at set up and try to get my left wrist flat but it just seems the right wrist has to cock a little bit with how much depending on how one grips the club. Maybe I am just gripping wrong but I think I have a pretty good grip.

eh….. got a picture? hehe… whichever arm is facing the sky, that’s the one that needs to be cocked. like if you were me, not a left-hander. my right wrist will be the one that’s cocked. left will just follow.

if you have a strong grip, you’ll definitely be ‘bending’, cocking both wrists to a larger extent.

Topic: The Lounge / Name the Woods baby

Tiger and Elin Woods’ little ‘un is due in a couple of months. I am interested in what they will name this bundle of joy, given the diverse ethnic mix of the parents.

Tigers heritage is one quarter Chinese, one quarter Thai, one quarter African American, one eighth Native American, and one eighth Dutch. Elin is I think 100% Swedish (God bless her wink.gif )

Post your suggestions for male and female names. I will award the nearest correct entry a bottle of Stones Green Ginger Wine shipped anywhere in Australia. If the suggestions are of a hig enough standard i may even email a link to this thread to Tiger himself.

Get cracking!

Jack.

i say…........ “Pecker”

Wood Pecker. ehhehehehehehehehe
