Topic: Golf Talk / How you handle playing after surgery? as a hernia surgeon I can say that it depends entirely on the type of repair, some repairs are as strong as they will ever be within one week, some take longer. There are no hard rules, so listen to your surgeon. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Using a broomstick putter A few years ago I used a broomstick because I was putting really poorly, used it for a few months and then when I returned to my normal putter it felt like coming home and really comfortable. I think that changing putters can be really useful sometimes when your confidence is low. |

Topic: Rules of Golf / hazard markings Thanks for your input, sorry about the lack of diagram! The specific situation to which I am referring is: A natural watercourse complete with water, weeds, rocks etc. crosses the fairway. At either side of the fairway are yellow pegs, however there is one yellow peg in the middle which is actually about 1 metre INSIDE the line of the natural watercourse. It is possible therefore for a ball to be in the watercourse but OUTSIDE a straight line drawn between the middle peg and the lateral peg. Is the ball in or out of the hazard? I know that the solution is simply to move the central peg but until that happens, what is the ruling? |

Topic: Golf Talk / Old Handicapping Sustem In the old system your stableford handicap was 75% of your stroke handicap. So, for example your handicap might be 24/18. Meaning that you got 24 strokes in a stroke round, but only 18 in stableford comp. This was the way in the 60’s when I started, not sure when it changed though, because I had about 20 years away from competition golf! |

Topic: Rules of Golf / how do you know if it is casual water A friend, having spoken to someone at R&A once told me that water which had overflowed a water hazard and which was continuous with the water in that hazard was not casual water but constituted part of that hazard regardless of any markings. Was he wrong and have I been doing myself an injustice for years? |
