Has anyone seen the Nike SP-8 stocked in any stores in Melbourne?

tot the left thumb for righties should just be pass the midline towards the right
and not overdoing it

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?

Of course a weaker grip feels less comfortable, it is not what you are used to so it feels wrong. Everyone resists change.

Some good players have used strong grips, David Duval is the one that stands out.

Whether you need to change depends on where you are now. Keep the left thumb on the rear side of the shaft, not on top. And move your grip a little weaker until you hit it a bit straighter and eliminate to hook. Does not have to be one big grip change, a series of smaller ones may allow you to adjust and adapt over time.

down and out…did ya get that?

It is not just due to change, it feels less comfortable because the weight of the club tends to close the face, therefore the natural tendency is to strengthen the left hand to a point where there is no effort put into trying to keep the face square, and the comfort level at an optimum. The strong left hand is the ‘zero’ point, so anything different does not feel comfortable (in the quest for more, or to keep, control of the club).

What do you mean by “where I am now”?
My swing is nothing flash, and the grip seems to have a fair effect which leaves me posting this thread.

I want to learn a swing I’m happy with and have some direction.

That means about 5 or less.

Topic: Golf Talk / Strong v weak left hand grip.

One of the current problems I’m having is with my grip. (I’m right handed)
For it to be comfortable I have to have a very strong left hand which gives me a shut club face which has various problems arising from it such as hooks and a strong draw that I hate.

I can hit with a weaker left hand and therefore a square club face, but I don’t feel comfortable with the grip, and I lose a lot of control and a bit of power. It becomes more of a swing and hope, rather than a swing with any control.

this has left me wondering what are there any other pros & cons of the two grips other than I’ve already mentioned?

Should I let this worry me and try to alter my grip to a more neutral position, or should I just continue with what’s comfortable?

If only someone would shoot Peter Wilkins.

Some of the camera work needs a little work as there were a few shots where the camera man did not anticipate what the ball was doing and hence it escaped the frame for a second or two.

Topic: Golf Talk / What is a 'good' handicap?

I prefer to play with lower handicapped players because you get to see some incredible shots pulled off with what seems like no effort.

The round usually takes less time between holes and less time is spent looking for balls.

I’d be over the moon to hit 70%+ of greens, in a very good round I hit 7, I usually average about 5.
I’m intrigued as to how your iron game can be that good, yet you seem to have no accuracy off the tee.

9.6

If I ever learn to hit an iron I think I should be able to get it down to about 2-4.

Topic: Golf Talk / are there any special requirements to work in pro shops/ golf stores

If you can speak complete and utter crap and get people to believe you, that is all you need.

I love going into golf shops and hovering around the staff giving someone ‘advice’ – very funny. It’s a kind of sport in itself for me

A bit of arse kissing never goes astray either.

Topic: Golf Talk / Would you rather a low handicap or play a harder course

I prefer the tougher course as golf is about the challenge, not who the wank factor of having the lowest handicap just for comments sake.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Do you need to play a Tour ball?

titleist prov is a perfect example of an average ball that sells well due to advertising

Why do you say it’s average?

Out of all the balls I’ve tried, I’d say the ProVs are up around the top.

Topic: Golf Talk / Sponsorship.

I’m off 12 at the mo’, wanna get down to 10 by next year.

This is a guess, but I’d assume you would have to be off scratch or better to be sponsored, and also playing a lot of competitions on some circuit as to get a little bit of advertising done for the sponsoring company.
Have you called anyone at Titleist/NIke/TM/whoever and asked?

I’m lost here.
“You’re atleast 7”, being +7?
7 shots better than 2 (+5)?
7 years older?

You say……........Then, with your right hand, grab your left forearm just below your wrist with your thumb on top of your left forearm.
Forgive me if I’m stupid but I would have thought the part of your arm “just below your wrist” was your HAND not your forearm ???

Same here. heh

Topic: Golf Equipment / Araldite

Well, it has been done.
Extracting the shaft was quite simple, but I was a little scared of burning the paint, but it all worked and came off quite easily. Thanks to Vman and his invention of a little home made shaft puller made from a plank vice which worked perfectly.

Hopefully I used enough araldite and all will be well. I guess I’ll find out sooner or later, hopefully at the range if it does fail.

I would like to make a home-made puller but haven’t got a clue where to start. Could you point me in the right direction?

Cheers,
Tom

Buy a floorboard clamp from bunnings or wherever. The rail style which are a metre or so long.
I cut the rail down to about 45cm long.
On the end with the screw (where you would tighten or loosen the vice), drill/carve a U shaped depression/hole in the top flat section.
This is where the club/shaft slots in and the vice will pull against the hosel when the vice is extended.

Hopefully this image makes sense. On the right are a rough similarity to what the head looks like on a bunnings rail clamp.
The vice in this image is not the style you would buy from bunnings, but it’s the only clamp of a similar kind I could find.

the range can be the worst place to loose a head…….

you feel like an absolute fuckwit when you have to run up the entire length of the range asking everybody to stop hitting while you run out with everybody watching to pick up the head.

just prey it breaks on a hole were there is heaps of fairway and no big water carries!

sigs are back – YAY

Club range with no people.
