Topic: Southern Golf Club Springvalley paid somthing like 6mil for their clubhouse and includes a gym underground. Southern upgraded nearly the same time and paid over 7mil, but no gym. Southern is great now, the clubhoouse is centered between the 2 nines, as oppose to the old layout they had a since a couple years ago. |

Topic: Southern Golf Club Yes, “awesome” is a word I would use to describe my fellow members. I saw it referred to as “Animal Farm” on another thread. Perhaps that is linked to the Cheap Beer at SGC. |

Topic: Southern Golf Club
Agree, the ‘second’ tier clubs are most helpful whilst the others need to lift their game. Snobbish is one word that comes to mind. |

Topic: Southern Golf Club Sounds like an interesting offer. Do you know what the costs are and is it valid 7 days a week or just Mon-Fri. Currently looking at joining club. It’s amazing how some clubs are more than helpful, send out info, keen to get you down to have a round and meet members but then others (perhaps the one I favour the most) dont returncalls or reply to email and have little interest in talking to you on the phone. |

Topic: Southern Golf Club Southern golf club is offering twighlight membership of 3-5 month duration, meaning play after 3pm or something. What do people think of the course, and the deal as a means of entry into the membership eventually? Is it a hard club to get membership into? |

Topic: 13th Beach Same here. The 1st is a classic template for designers to follow on flat ground. Dare to hit it close to the trap on the right, and the angle of approach is easier. Bail out left and every metre further left sees a proportionately less attractive angle of approach, with the left trap coming into play more and more. I grant you that the approach isn’t played with a long iron. Play the hole and you can’t lose a ball, it gets people away well, and the hole is understated. A very good exampe of how average ground can yield a good hole when a little thought and restraint is employed. MM |

Topic: 13th Beach Michswiss, If you go back and look at the 13th Beach – Beach Course threads you’ll find almost unanimous support for it. There are a couple of funky things where he has tried things that haven’t quite worked but all in all its a terrific course. The negative comments on Cashy’s work are almost exclusively to do with projects that have involved changes made to existing courses such as Kingswood, Commonwealth and Royal Melbourne. JJ |

Topic: 13th Beach Have I just seen a thread solid with positive comments for a Cashmore design? Cool. I need to get out there for a hit sometime. I loved Barwon Heads. Is the land similar? |

Topic: 13th Beach I’ll agree with King Jeffrey. 1 is a really clever hole and a great starter. 2 is very good on a lesser piece of land. 3 – nice try but a miss. 4 – hmm I just don’t like roadblocks regardless of distance. 5 – Nope – sorry. 6 Road block, but from 7 it starts to get better. JJ |

Topic: 13th Beach Couldn’t have put it better! I’m with judge. The course starts off slow but quickly grows to become a cracker. Don’t even play the Creek course before the Beach course. I also thought the first par 3 was a bit ordinary. |

Topic: 13th Beach 1 is a great openning hole, Judge, I am a big fan of Number 2 as well. 3 is ambitous but doesn’t really work IMO |

Topic: 13th Beach Couldn’t have put it better! Beach course is great, the last three Par 3’s are a highlight. I’ve only played it once and from memory the first 3 holes are pretty bland but the rest of the course is fantastic. |

Topic: 13th Beach Don’t play the Creek Course after playing Beach… If the wind is up, be prepared for a day of club selection issues – wedges either going 150m downwind (14th) or 3 irons not making 150m (12th). 4 is not a forced layup into the wind. 6 is a forced layup down wind. Dont get in the bunkers right of the green on 5… Buy the course book. And enjoy a couple of beers afterwards and reflect on how much fun you just had playing golf… |

Topic: 13th Beach Jeffrey Are your measurements from the back tees ? From memory – I would have sworn # 6 runs out at around around 210-220m ?? |

Topic: 13th Beach Not sure I totally agree. 4 narrows to 20m wide at 280m and cuts out at 300m which isnt what i would call a ‘forced lay up. 6 narrows to about 18m at 240. A forced layup for me, common fairway width on pga tour. |

Topic: 13th Beach Forced layup on 4 and 6…...overdone somewhat IMO. Once one can live with but twice in 3 holes ? P3’s are the highlight – 16th is a cracker !! |
