Topic: Golf Course Bird Life Pom, the storks were like those pelicans, except the lampposts were about 12 meters high and the storks balanced on one leg. |

Topic: Golf Course Bird Life Hi Pom, The bird you saw must have been lost, and/or carried by high winds. Last year two flocks of about 100 Griffon Vultures (Gyps Fulvas) arrived in the Southern part of the Netherlands. Normally they live in the Spanish Pyrenees. Occasionally a bird is spotted here that normally lives in the USA. Birdwatchers think favorable high winds carried it across the Atlantic. My most interesting bird sight was when I was driving home from a day refereeing. The motorway I was driving along was lit up on both sides by tall lamp-posts at regular intervals of about 40 meters. On top of each lamppost stood one stork, about 30 in all and all facing in the same direction. An unusual sight! Actually Johanna the colours in the Photo are pretty accurate but as has been suggested that could be because the bird is a juvenile & has not yet got its adult plumage. I am just a little surprised as I have never seen one around Townsville before. More a Northern Tropics bird. |

Topic: Golf Course Bird Life It looks like an Ephippiorhynchus Asiaticus ;-), a large type of stork. Did the bird have red legs and black and white feathers? |

Topic: Golf Course Bird Life Cleaned it up a bit for a better look. Consensus was that it is a Jabiru but there is always an ” expert ” around that will come up with a different Idea. Have never seen one ofthese around the course before. It is definitely not scared by the golfers wandering past all the time. |

Topic: Golf Course Bird Life I would say it is a Black Neck Stork or “Jabiru” as it is commonly known, this is the only member of the stork family that we have in Aus so not much choice really : ) As manu says, looks like a juvenile. |

Topic: Golf Course Bird Life No we stayed in some units on the headland at Alexandra Headlands. There were 3 of them constantly around the headland. I spent some time down by the rock pools and eventually this young one settled close by and i was able to get some good snaps. I just missed him diving into the water chasing a fish, but not sure my camera would have been quick enough to focus on him anyway. I was very happy with these ones. |
