Topic: Golf Talk / Trying to ID a Gold Coast course

Yep Palm Meadows 18th. Little plaque at the tee listing it as one of the world’s top 500 holes – nominated by Curtis Strange.

I’ve tried taking on the drive, spectacularly unsuccessfully.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Reducing driver length to 44""

Bumping this old topic – if I remove 1” from my driver (which is a ridiculous 45.5” standard), and hence reduce the swingweight by 6 points, how much lead tape do I need to add to the head to get it back to its original swingweight?

It is a Nickent 4DX and these come with a very thin grip – I want to replace that with a standard Gripmaster which I’m sure is heavier than the original – would that also have a noticeable impact on the swingweight?

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Correcting a Fade

Jeff,

I should have noted that I am not trying the rotation thing in an attempt to correct a fade but rather this began just as an exploratory mission to see what happens if I attemped to emulate this action that is always evident in swing sequences.

And it is a forearms action rather than wrists now that you mention it!

What is the ‘complete swivel action’? Have heard this in TGM discussions but not sure what it means.

The nice thing about rotation is not that you hook, slice or hit it dead straight depending on when you do it but that it lets the natural power escape from the entire movement, freeing the body and a short time after, the mind.

A free mind can produce more freedom in the swing causing spiraling success.

Rotation is worth a try for a couple of years.

I’ve recently been concentrating on a more agressive rotation of the wrists through the ball and can identify with the comment about letting the natural power escape from the entire movement. To me it feels like it automatically gets me extending right through the ball with all the moving parts working more in unison than figthing each other.

The impetus to focus on this came after finally asking myself why is it that in every swing sequence I have seen the pros have their trailing wrist completely on top of the leading one at the horizontal club position in the follwo through.

I still don’t quite understand why all these flow on effects though!

I have always had problems getting the arms extended but have recently achieved some success after first (finally) paying some attention to keeping my left arm straight (with extensor action).

Perhaps the guru can comment on whether this is just coincidence but it feels to me that a straight left arm is a prerequisite to achieving extension after impact.

Certainly with the combination of the two (straight left arm and extension through the ball) I am so far getting pretty impressive improvements in distance and accuracy.

Is there actually a 12 degree in the D-spec. There is one of these on ebay I am interested in but the nickentgolf website has the specs at 12.5?

Topic: Golf Equipment / Driver fitting at homebush

I see the Ignite Golf centre at Olympic Park Homebush is offering driver fittings (30mins, $60) and Full Set fittings (60mins, $120).

Anyone looked into these or gone through them and can comment on effectiveness?

QUOTE: Zorba @ Feb 15 2007, 10:31 PM

im sure there is a market for them. they would probably do quite well amongst the younger golfers.

bit expensive for an unknown brand tho.

I've seen these in the flesh - used to be carried by Olympic Park golf in Sydney - perhaps still are. They are well over the top! I have three Feel wedges, which I think are fantastic, but these irons were just too much to contemplate!!

They also make drivers but their forte is wedges.

Am tempted to get one of their new 73 degrees jobs to see what it can do!!

well i reckon I have spent a $1500 on gear over the last year or so as we do as golfers...but the $200 on 3 cleveland wedges is simply the best money spent...

I have tried callaway X..Titliest vokeys, nike SV and others the cleveland wedges leave them for dead...

yeah bougth them off the uy that sells 3 in pack...they usually go for about 250 odd...geez how does he buy them..who knows??

all I know is they are great wedges laugh.gif

recommend trying the Feel Golf wedges. I have three and adore them. Need cutting down tho as they all come at 36" which is too long, particularly for the higher lofts

I also prefer the platinum to the black, but that's because I cant induce enough spin to stop the black on rock hard greens. I find I'm a bit more comfortable with the platinum there.

What are the supposed differences between the two (ie black and platinum), and who are each one targeted at?

Topic: Golf Equipment / any mid handicappers using blades and finding them ok?

I play with Mizuno MP-32s, don't hit as many in the middle as I'd like to, and accept that I would most likely be a couple of shots better off using cavity backs (particularly when not playing at my best), but those MP-32s are just so dang gorgeous!!

Having said that I do find that they don't go too badly when I miss the sweet spot anyway - I suspect these Mizuno cutmuscles are substantially more forgiving than true blades.

2. I would hit balls at him rather than with him.
3. Blunt - but his food is damn good.

I will go with 3 please Eddie... that is my final answer.

I have never heard a more appropriate use for Richard Symons, not even close. Brilliant!!

Topic: Golf Equipment / Driver Length

QUOTE: grumpy_dog666 @ Jan 6 2007, 09:06 PM

43 is very short...i've considered going from 44.5 to 44...

usually cut at first to 44.5...and then say to myself, if i struggle, i'll bring it back to 44...

then i get too lazy and don't bother...not that .5" is going to change all that much with my crappy swing

I figured I'd go all out - if I can't improve my consistency at 43 then I'll have to face facts regarding my crappy swing!!

In any case, I have ruled out longer than 44, and I figure the diff between 44 and 43 on a very well struck shot will cost me less than 5m - probably less than 3m. I'm more than willing to trade that off in return for more well struck drives.

QUOTE: aimr75 @ Dec 30 2006, 08:09 PM

i've tended to buy online based on the cost savings in comparison to buying from a store..

but have been thinking lately whether the extra cost in having the clubs fitted, various clubs tested to suit your game and swing speed, and knowing they are not fake is worth the additional $$

whats your preference and why?

I prefer online cos I don't have to deal with any f*ckwits in golf stores.

This discussion was a mystery to me when it started. Is the 'hear it go in, watch it miss' theory about not turning your head until after you have hit the ball?

My putting today: first hole. missed a 4fter, so be it. 2nd hole, missed a 6 fter, so be it. Third hole, missed a 2fter - now I'm concerned. Get back to basics - make sure the head doesn't move till the ball is wll on its way or in -8 pars in 9 holes (I'm off 16) with 6 of those 1 putt greens.

Hey, pprobably won't work nezt week but head dqwn don't peek is a real thing!

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Blast that left arm of the left tit !

QUOTE: Virge666 @ Dec 11 2006, 06:46 PM

Nice pickup Novice - I didn't think any one would spot that one... I just don't think he is a hitter, the start down is way wrong for a hitter. I will explain, as I am ignoring it in favour of the bigger picture. That bigger picture is the correlation between his upper and lower body.

With his swing, he has gone to the extreme of the lower body restricting, which isn't a bad thing when a pure hitting action is used. BUT, Bersey's downswing is not a straight line delivery because his lower half will not get out of the way. It is a BIG CAST.

This is caused by a number of things, one of which is the back swing, and we could go all technical, but I won't...

So to match up the upper and lower, we need the BUMP, and the best way to teach the bump, IMHO, is the kick starting of the flywheel...

'scuse my ignorance, but what is meant by 'kick starting the flywheel'?

Hi All!

I've been reading ISG's very helpful golf fitness articles, and am wanting to perhaps take the next step and start a proper program. Having been to various gyms in the past where the staff put together programs, I always got the impression that you were getting something generic that wasn't tailored to your needs. As such, does anyone know of, and can recommend an appropriately qualified individual (in Melbourne) who has expertise in golf and personal training?

Thanks!

Perhaps the CD set advertised with the ISG fitness articles would be the way to go. Anyone tried these or have more info on them?

Topic: Golf Equipment / OAKLEY HALF JACKET® XLJ GOLF ARRAY

QUOTE: munster @ Nov 4 2006, 07:49 PM

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has a pair of OAKLEY HALF JACKET® XLJ GOLF ARRAY?
Or tried them on, or know of someone who has them?
Your thoughts or views? Are they light as in terms of weight?
Thanks

I have the Golf Array, and the lenses are great (particularly the Fire Iridium and the G30), frames very light and very comfortable. Only thing I would be careful of is that sometimes I feel that they sit a little high and if you are trying to 'look down your nose' at the ball at address, can almost be looking under the bottom of them.

Recommend trying them on if possible.
