Topic: The Lounge / Aussie's best and brightest

Dick of the highest order.. but he did pwn the ACA gutter journalists, so gotta give him some credit for that.

ACA: “So what advice would you give to any other teenagers who are thinking of having a party?”

Dick: “Get me to organise it, I organise wicked parties”

Topic: Sports Talk / Mourinho to manage Liverpool next season?

Given the initial reason for the fallout between Rafa and the US owners was due to their reluctance to open the purse strings during the transfer period, I can’t see Mourinho wanting to go there. The amount he had at his disposal at Chelski would have been significantly more than he would have to play with at Liverpool, and he still cracked the poops. Situation wouldn’t be helped by the reports that the owners are having some financing issues at the current time either.

He’s a damn good manager though.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Vision Golf Ball Test

Just to add my 2c… nothing overly new, just reaffirming what pretty much everyone else has said.

I bought a 6 pack of the Xperts and a 6 pack of the Arctics before Christmas – kept 3 of each for myself and sent 3 of each to the bro in law up in Townsville as a Xmas gift.

- Packaging is great – different to the packaging on all other balls I’ve ever seen on the market which really helps them stand out on the shelf. The plastic box also gives the impression that it’s a quality ball, not a cheap rock.

- First game was with the Xpert – felt very soft off both woods and irons, distance and accuracy was awesome. I’ve never had the money or the game to play V1’s so can’t really compare, but it was as good – or better than any ball I’ve played with before.

- Like many others have said… the soft feeling wasn’t optimal for putting.. but my short game is crap anyway so certainly not going to blame it on the ball :)

- For the same reason as above, (ie crap short game) I have no real opinion on its performance around the greens pitching/chipping etc.. certainly didn’t find it any worse than anything else I’ve used.

- Used one of the Arctic Whites last week – comments much the same as above. Didn’t get quite the same results as with the Xpert but I think that was more my ball striking on the day as opposed to the Arctic White being a lesser quality ball.

- Can’t say I noticed any significant difference in visibility to be honest.. not sure if its not as apparent with the whites rather than the yellows, or maybe its an indication my eyesight is the same standard as my short game :)

In summation… great product at a very reasonable price, added bonus that its an Aussie development. I’m another convert!

The chick at Drummond Camperdown is kind of cute

HTH

I bought a putter from her a couple of weeks ago.

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.

Topic: Golf Talk / McNamee faces music over scoring debacle

Look, McNamee came from the Australian Tennis Open, which has for the past few years had one of the best scoring systems you’d ever see. From memory it’s never failed, and you can get up-to-the-second scores of all the matches in the whole Rod Laver complex. I don’t know who does it, but it’s damn good.

To be honest I don’t think McNamee had a lot – if anything – to do with the scoring system at the tennis. IBM do all the tennis Grand Slams – and all the golf majors too I think – they actually have a team who travel around to set up the required systems and run them during the event.

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf club maintenance

Does this pitting effect the performance of the club or is it more a cosmetic issue?

I also have RAC’s and have noticed the same thing on some of mine too.. I clean them regularly, but easy to see how it can happen reading PGA Pro’s explanation.

Topic: Golf Equipment / 9.5 vs 10.5 degree driver

I’ve got the Burner in 10.5, reg flex. Lovely bit of gear. Replaced a Nike 9.5 stiff flex that I never should have bought and have never been able to hit – went for the extra loft after reading a lot of posts recommending that as the way to go.

Topic: Rules of Golf / Working out my own handicap - help?

Sticks, there's a couple of websites that allow you to record your scores (and stats if thats your thing) and it calculates an indicative handicap for you.

http://www.golfdigest.com/h...
http://www.leaderboard.com/

The second one is probably better as it uses actual ACR/CCRs, whereas the Golf Digest one calculates its own course rating dependent on length only. Leaderboard also maintains a pretty comprehensive course database, so you'll probably find the detail for a lot of the courses you play are in there already.

Golf Digest is pretty simple and straight forward though.. and updates your hcp after each card (for Leaderboard you need to enter 5 min before it gives you any hcp at all)

Obviously these and other similar online tools aren't giving you an official hcp in any way shape or form.. but they're great to at least give you an indication, and help you track how much you're improving.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Yet another "What Would You Recommend" thread...

Hi all

Have discovered this site in the past couple of days and have found what you all have to say very interesting and educational (even if I only understand about 10% of it!)

I've recently caught the golf bug again after a long hiatus, and have decided to treat myself to a new set of irons. I don't have an official handicap at the moment (will be addressing that soon) but would estimate I play off 18-20. I'm hoping that with continued play and lessons, I'll get this down to mid to low teens over the next year or so.

I have no delusions of grandeur about my ability, so feel I'm very much looking at the game improvement over workability side of things.. but given it's not an insignificant investment, I also want to make sure I select a set that I'm not going to "grow out" of in the near future.

The sets I'm considering..

- Cleveland CG4
- Callaway X-18
- Titleist 704.CB
- TaylorMade RAC OS2

Even though I know I'm paying a premium for the brands, I'd rather spend a bit more on a set that might have some resale value in a few years, than go cheap. My budget is $1000 - $1200 (but happy to spend less if I can!!)

Anyone have any thoughts on the suitability of these clubs.. and any recommendations as to what else I should consider? (and yes.. I've quickly cottoned on to the fact that its VITAL I get properly fitted smile.gif ) Also, where are the good deals in Sydney?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
