Topic: Golf Talk / Big hitters. They say length isnt everything. I have a clubmate who is a sailmaker by trade, so works a lot with his hands. He can monster a ball. Last year in the Pro am at our club he eagled the 10th with a 8 ft putt. Its a 350m par 4 with a slight dogleg. I have also seen him drive a ball thru the short par 4 ( either 1st or 10th) at cape schank in victoria with a 3 wood on the fly. I hit driver and was 20m short of the green. probably hit it about 280. The Point to the story is – he plays off about 14 and struggles to play to it. but he is fun to watch |

Topic: Golf Talk / Big hitters. Interestingly, under the new course rating system to determine the Slope rating for all golf courses, you have to measure the course based upon an inaginary scratch golfer and an imaginary bogey golfer. under the system the imaginary scratch golfer hits the ball 230yards with 20 yards of roll. The bogey golfer hits it 180 with 20 roll They are Yards not metres so we are converting to about 225m total for a scratch golfer. That is set under the system which was bought from the yanks |

Topic: Golf Talk / Big hitters.
No Kristian – I’m a very moderate length hitter. I would average about 225-235m on my home course. admittedly the fairways are Kik and dont run much. That one the other day was with a 40km wind straight up our clakker. I had 220 to the pin according to the markers and the hole was 502. allowing for being a bit in front of the plates I probably hit it 270 and it looked like it ran a bit. If you recall the 9th hole, i hit a pretty good drive ( for me) and was about 10 short of the dam. Rex said he hit it in the dam on the fly, so he is at least 30 past me on the carry. |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club NCCS ISG Day June 11th some of my more memorable moments of the day From the Blacksnake – This man has a perspective on golf that is rarely seen in the modern day of Power hitting. On a number of occassions he laid up short of obvious obstructions in order to get a better line on the hole. He enjoyed the practice so much he often decided to lay up on his second and third shots as well while sneaking up on a trickily placed green. Such patience and persistance are rare in todays world of Golf and it was a joy to observe from close up. Mind you , I personally didn’t see the Ladies tee box as quite as much of a hazard as Blacksnake, but these things, like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder and who are we to question. If he wants to lay up short of it, then so he shall!! It was unfortunate that upon playing a precisely manouvred 3rd shot into the 502m par 5 14th ( which landed some distance short of the green and ran up nicely) that we discovered too late that there was indeed a water hazard cunningly positioned behind the green which gobbled said golf ball much to the dismay of its owner. From KristianJ – Kristian’s a young up and coming golfer with plenty of unharnessed power to spare. He hit some fine shots throughout the course of the day. Kris obviously has an interest in the weather as he found it hard to resist testing the various reactions of the wind upon a golf ball hit with a variety of styles. His hypothesis that a ball, although struck in the general direction of the said green, given the correct amount of slice and ideal wind strength and direction, can indeed finish further from the said green than the original position was indeed proven!! Now I’m not trying to say the weather conditions were adverse but Blacksnake and I did discover that the parachutists taking off from the adjoining airport were actually competing in the New Zealand national parachuting championships!! The landing zone was in the suburbs of Aukland somewhere. From my own golf the highlights were the wind assisted drive into the greenside bunker on the par 4 11th and the two monstrous blows ( again wind assisted) to reach the 502m 14th green. For a bloke who would normally hit driver/3 wood about a total of 430m – that was quite some feat ( or should i say quite some wind) Unfortunately the next hole was back into the wind and I managed to drown 2 balls in the dam. That was 2 of my golf balls, Not our compatriot and defending title holder 2balls!! They were 2 of 7 that I sent swimming on the day and another one OOB for good measure – so the 32 pts was actually quite respectable if you only count the ones i hit! Undoubted highlight was the 2 shagging black swans on the dam at 14. We were privvy to the realities of nature as these two started swanning around, including a bit of ” necking” and culminating in a display that would have made david attenborough blush!!! Poor old blacksnake didn’t know whether to get his camera out and take a photo or rip the shirt of and jump in and join them for a feathered threesome. And so an interesting day was had by all and it was good to meet a lot of faces that previously only had psuedonyms and avatars. I hope to join you all again sometime HCWT |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club NCCS ISG Day June 11th bloody hell barnsey – now your asking us to think!!!! the reason you get to be captain is that we just like to follow on like sheep. At some point you must have insinuated that you were willing to organise. shabang – instant captaincy Shirt won’t be pink as i don’t own one. certainly happy to hit a ball in the dam in honour of anyone. However not quite sure in the current form that I could HIT the dam. How big is it????? If it was a bunker it wouldnt be a problem. I hit 7 of the buggers today. had a lazy 31 pts in a 40 km/h wind. now officially back to 13 ( well i will be by hit off tomorrow when the scores are posted from today. First time off more than 12 in about 10 years |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club NCCS ISG Day June 11th gents I’m not unhappy that the handicap has backed up quicker than Fred Nile in a gay bar. I’m off to the UK and Ireland for 10 weeks on the 23/6 and not planning on playing much golf. If i get 4 games in i think that would be about it. I’ll be rusty when i get home so a bit of a buffer will be nice. You wait till we get the slope system working. Based on my nice easy course I could be off 15 at some of the tougher tracks about the place!! Now i could really do some damage off that mark. anyway at the moment I have trouble hitting the course, let alone the fairway – and they can go either way!! I’ve played that course once before and its certainly not easy.I recall a few holes wandering thru the vines up the back of the course….or was that at the vintage? BRAD – Is Luke waters still working in the shop at the Vintage? DAVE – your retired yet ? |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club NCCS ISG Day June 11th Barnsey If you have an understanding of the new handicapping system you will be aware that it adjusts to your current form more quickly and accurately than the old system – at least in an outward direction If you then observe my golflink details you will notice that since the system became active on 9 April I have gone from 8 to 12. If you care to look after tomorrows round I am fairly sure that the figure will be 13. This in itself should give you an idea of my current form and indicate that the likelihood of me returning to Taree with ANY form of a trophy would be similar to the proverbial snowball in hell. I’m only coming along for the festivities and the fellowship |

Topic: iseekgolf Golf Days / Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club NCCS ISG Day June 11th afternoon chappies been a wee while since I ventured over here. No real reason , just lost a bit of interest I guess. anyway, I chanced upon a facebook post from Barnsey and he mentioned this little venture and I have decided that, if the invite still stands, to come along and join you all. It is supposed to be a wee bit chilly with possible snow on the barrington tops today and/or tomorrow and the wind blowing from the west, so bring your woollies. |

Topic: The Lounge / The Tiger Woods Family Christmas 2009 Portrait when you earn millions of dollars, perhaps billions, for being a public personality then you have to pay the price if you screw up. Thats the way it works. does he think he would be rich if the world didnt care about everything he did. I get sick of people saying, leave them alone. Thats what they get paid for. Their life isnt their own and they should understand that from the get go. Does he think for a minute that he pulls these women on his looks alone….obviously no mirrors in his house. I think he will find it very hard to swallow his pride and come back out in front of the crowds. He no longer walks on water and can expect a bit more flak from the crowds i think. it will be interesting to see the first few tournaments I can see some of the tabloid papers sending girls out to try and bait him into more indiscretions whenever he is on tour as well. He better get used to sitting home with stevie watching DVDs |

Topic: Golf Talk / Tiger Apologises for getting caught out. there are just so many potential good jokes in this. I heard one today comparing a cadillac to a titliest. difference is Tiger can drive a titlest 400yds without hitting a tree. I can feel one coming on about all those people at the golf yelling “get in the hole”. maybe he just thought he was following instructions?? Or one about how the thing his missus hates most in golf is the “bad lies” I like jesper today saying he hopes next time Elin uses a driver rather than a 3 iron. I think that gives some cred to the original story of her chasing him down the drive as Jesper , being a personal friend, would likely have inside knowledge you and I probably sit there and say to ourselves “with a missus like that, why would you even look elsewhere” . I guess its a bit like what drives him at golf. Most of us would say “got a billion, can sit back and relax a bit” but he is driven to reach something else irrespective of what he has. Perhaps the same mentality applies to his women. I’d love to see his missus go out and have a fling with John Daly or perhaps Y E Yang. But thats just the deviate mind working. I bet Phil is just sitting back and laughing. He now has the moral highground if nothing else |

Topic: Golf Equipment / MGI golf buggies - a Goodwill story Malvern just not frequenting this site these days. fairly busy with life, but even when i hit the keyboard its just not on ISG. Don’t worry, it hasn’t been on the “dark side ” either. Mainly on Facebook these days NWABP Yes Gus is the man i dealt with. I did it solely thru email. It took me a long time to get my buggy out to the repairer, but that was my fault |

Topic: Golf Equipment / MGI golf buggies - a Goodwill story Well I’ve ragged this companies equipment out on a number of occassions for the poor quality of their buggies compared to a reasonably high expense, but today I must acknowledge a nice bit of customer service. after another part broke recently I got jack of it and sent a nasty email off to the address on their webpage. I got an answer back from their customer service rep and after considerable “toing and froing” they agreed to have particular fault fixed by the local contract repairman. This involved fitting a plastic slide clip as the wiring needed to be disconeected in order to get the clip onto the handle, and I didn’t feel confident in doing that. so i dropped the buggy out to the repair man. When i received it back they had not only replaced the clip, but had replaced the handle and both front wheels ( which i had secured on with fencing wire to stop them falling off) and done the lot as a warranty job. Now the buggy is over 3 years old and only had a 12 month warranty , so they were certainly not obliged to do that. I think this buggy was an early edition and they have since recognised and fixed a number of design faults in the later editions. It is nice of them to acknowledge that the unit had some “issues” and to repair them at their cost so a bouquet to the people at MGI and chalk one up for customer service |

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Are there any "hidden gems" left in Australia? I think if you consider the levels of traffic that many courses get compared to the quality of the course and then equate it against golf overseas I think that probably haof the courses in Australia ar “hidden Gems” we rarely appreciate how spoilt we are in golf terms, particularly outside of the capital cities |
