Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / 2nd course at St Andrews beach

Found this course layout poking around on their updated website. Seems the 16th hole at St Andrews Beach is actually on the land of the new course so will be removed and replaced by a new hole. New tees for the 17th hole as well.

Was only down there a couple of weeks ago and no real work has started in this area of the new course, so wondering if there opening date for later in the year will just be 9 holes.

Played with a guy who was a Royal Hobart member. He mentioned that as a victorian resident, you couldn’t play Royal Melbourne as a reciprocal (same went for residents of other states). If your postal adress was in Tasmania though (as his was) then it was all good. He mentioned he played RM around 6 times a year on average.

From memory, Royal Hobart has recipricol with all “Royal” clubs in Australia, and a fairly cheap membership.

4th at Lost Farm. Having to aim out over the beach when the wind is from the north and hope it comes back enough is an excellent start to the round.

Playing at 13th Beach last year, there was a slow social group in front of us. Marshall was out by the 4th hole apologizing for the delay and saying he had spoken to them. After still not picking up the pace by the end of the front 9, the marshall gave them a cut off time. If they hadn’t finished their round by a this time, they had to get off the course. Never seen a bunch of guys move so fast after that.

Playing there over the break, noticed there is some light earthmoving equipment on site visible from the club house and some flags in locations for what looks like green sites so things look like they are moving.

Topic: Playing the game / Line on ball or not to putt?

Have tried the line approach and have stopped doing it. Found that I would often stand over the ball and second guess my alignment with the line on the ball and it would put to many thoughts into my head. Now i just pick a spot on the green, line up the putter then worry about the speed.

If Lost Farm was built anywhere else other than next to the Dunes course, it would probably be rated a lot better than what it is. The fact it’s next door neighbor is one of the best in the country will always mean Lost Farm is the poorer cousin.

Playing a course that measure around 6500m off the blacks, we normally walk in the 9-9.5km range. Played with a mate off 36 one day and spent a lot of time looking for balls, walking distance showed as 11.7km! Bloody long day.

The distances off the tees make for interesting reading. The 6th hole in particular, 72 yards off the tee, then managed to hit the second shot 240 yards, 2 putts and a par! Only one tee shot on the entire card was over 200 yards.

SL is in pretty good nick considering the amount of recent rain. May have only been a couple of days with no carts but course has remained open throughout. A week with little rain will have it playing very nice. Greens are always good, playing fairly quick at the moment.

Played a scramble event as a visitor to a nearby club last year. With a team handicap of around 7, we shot a net 57 and won by 3 shots. We were surprised the rest of the fields scores weren’t lower given the local knowledge and easy conditions. And no cheating!

FYI, he said on air that his handicap is currently 0.8.

I bought mine after hitting 3 shots with a mates. Best golf purchase I’ve made in a long time! Gained 10-15m with it off the tee, 5-10m from the fairway. And as you say, extremely consistent. Have been hitting it a lot from the tee and finding most fairways. Now, if only i hit the RBZ hybrid as well as this!
