I reckon the beastie boys got it right many years ago.

You gotta fight for your right to paaaaarty…..

That’s the way it is at my place. If I don’t stick to my guns I’d never get a game and be dragged around the shops all weekend.

I have four kids, and I get to play about 3 times/month, and I always play in the saturday comp so I dont feel as though I have wasted my game.

The kids are 10, 7, 3, and 1, so besides running around everywhere saturday am’s, during the week is the busiest time with after school training for the two oldest for hockey, soccer, gymnastics and swimming.

Played yesterday, and qualified for a matchplay comp, but had to turn down my spot as next weekend is a busy game day for the kids, but at least I have organised a bbq where I can drink some beer and watch footy instead.

Good luck to all of you who play multiple times/week, the trick is to not have so many little tackers.

Nathan

Great to see that so many are dedicating thier time to kids first & golf afterwards. I used to spend my weekends at cricket grounds or Hockey fields ,depending on the time of year., watching my kids play. now , Since they have grown up & left home I have taken up golf, The missus rarely objects to me playing 2 or 3 times a weekend as long as I keep up ,to the gardening.

Since I also work shift I work two weekends and have two off. As long as I dedicate one weekend (of which I can slip out early while she sleeps in) to the wife I can play as much as I can afford. So I play every tuesday and thursday when I’m not working and the odd saturday comp. Over the month it averages at one and a bit times a week.

being retired at an early age has its benefits. I play Tuesday and thursday every week with some weekend play thrown in for major events and pennants. Weekends are often tied up with kids sport but otherwise the wife likes to get me out of the house so she can study without me taking up the computer all the time.

I get away on at least 2 week long trips each year and often up to 3 more, depending on circumstances.

Its all good

ATM I count myself to be lucky as “she who shall be obeyed or Minister for Finance and War” allows me to play 9 holes Thursday arvo after work and 18 hole comp on Saturdays, sometimes with a range session as well with no complaints….until.

ANZAC long weekend, played the usual Thursday 9 hole chook run and 18 hole Saturday comp with a 18 hole ANZAC day 4 person ambrose (honestly thought it was only 9 hole ambrose when asked to play on Thursday night) on Firday. To top it off I volunteered 7 hours of my time on Sunday for a charity ambrose event on Sunday raising money for the Heart foundation.

Monday morning I was advised that she will not tell me that I play too much golf but have to realise myself when enough is enough & I need to spend more quality time with her.

How on earth am I going to meet her demands when I live, breath, watch, play & dream about golf all day every day???

I wear the pants in my family, I’ll play golf whenever I want!....As long as my fiance is at work or has something else with her friends planned! And the pants I wear are usually the ones that she tells me to! hahahaha….

Great posts guys, have been in stitches!

I am pretty lucky, I am a long driver so my regular practice sessions only last 1 hour max, it’s the interstate comps and the world’s if I qualify that we need to negotiate. Am pretty lucky there too, have an understanding woman that hates watching/playing golf, but she is supportive of my goals! As long as she comes with me when the tour heads to good holiday destinations! hahaha…

My mum does nothing on a Saturday so if the wife gives me grief about golf I take our two year old and drop her at her nana’s.

We’ve another one due in June but no fecking way will it stop me golfing!

As for taking the kids everywhere on saturdays – my dad played golf wednesdays, thursdays and saturdays from I was no age. Do I resent him for not watching me play football? Do I feck! He’s my hero, I wanna be just like him!!!!!

I can’t find a girl who will put up with me for longer than about 16 hours at a time so unless I meet them on Sunday, Wednesday, or Thursday night… I don’t have anybody to answer to :)

Its all about paying debts to my wife….she is at home with two young kids 3 year old and 1.5 year old

I dont play golf saturday…..Im with the kids most of the day and she goes off shopping or ctahces up with freinds

I will get up to them in the mornings…and so on

that buys me 2 rounds a week plus a 1 hour practice session…..twice a week is enough…any more than that and I lose interest

treat women how they want to be treated and you get what you want!

I’ve got three children, being 5, 2 and 2 months. I’ve arranged it so that if I do practice it is after the children are in bed, so I would go to the driving range after 7.30 about once a week. I have also arranged for my parents to look after the eldest two (The third is breast fed) one day a week when I play golf (generally Sunday).

This makes my children happy, my wife happy (she gets a break) and my parents happy as they spend time with the kids, and it also makes me happy, so it is win, win, win. Its a great arrangement and I also have dinner with my parents after I’ve finished golf. I think that kind of arrangement works as long as it is a win, win scenario. If this wasn’t the case I would be playing very rarely.

Good on ya driver and the rest of you guys with young families. When it’s all said and done, nothing beats the joy of watching your kids play sport and the smile that is on thier dial because you are there. Hope it continues that way for all of you.

If I knew then what I now know, I would have got them all a set of clubs when they turned 6. Only one that plays golf though is the boy and he never got interested until he got sick of footy at 16. Mind you, when I do get to play on hols and such, the wife loves driving the cart and scoring, even knocks the top off the stubby for me. (No.. I do mean a beer stubby)

I also work shift work so can play any time during the week when the lady is at work – we are getting married in June and are off to Dubai for a week and she was happy for me to book a hotel that has a course on it, then another week in Phuket and there will be plenty of golf played there as well. She likes it when I disapear for 4 hours and knows how much enjoyment I get from golf so we are both happy – not looking forward to having kids as golf will be taking a back seat.

LOL davego.. very funny :)

I’ve got two little ones (1 and nearly 3 in age) and I feel bad if I head out to often as they are a handful for my wife (both boys). I have sold the idea that I need to get out once a week though, but sadly, it is often during business hours and sometimes at the expense of my business. Still, I’m very grateful to be getting out once a week, although, i’ll be enrolling in lessons very soon and will be looking for extra time for ‘practice’.. :)

My wife almost throws me out of the house, but I only play once a month. She’s just enrolled for a 4 week beginner course, so we may start playing together.

Take her out with you, take your time, and enjoy it. If she doesn’t keep score or doesn’t hit the best, don’t worry about it. If she is enjoying it, that is all you should be concerned about.

“A star that shines twice as bright burns twice as fast.” – In memory of Greg Moore

Racinfarmer will be signing autographs at the mall from 3 to 5.

I took her to Riverside Oaks the other day when I played with my dad and his friend. She enjoyed it so much, keeping score and such, she then enrolled in the course. Had to put it on hold because her belly is growing daily. She’s due early Sept. :)

Enjoy it while you can fellas. Wait until you have 2-3 kids and they start playing sport. Weekends are shot. Up at 6 for the young fellas football, girls netball at 10, the eldest plays softball at 11, so either two cars or she gets a lift and you head over later. (Can’t miss any of the games otherwise, you like her/him better) This is just winter, summer is swimming, little athletics, cricket, T-Ball/Softball (again)

You suddenly realise you’re paying a good deal of $$$’s to belong to a golf club which you get to play at maybe every month if your lucky. Sunday is left as the only day to do the things that need to be done around the house (and doesn’t the missus remind you of that) mortgage and everything esle goes up and $$$’s hared to find, something has to go. Missus – “you don’t play golf that much anymore, so we can save some money there.”

End result, golf membership goes down the drain, you end up playing social golf with some mates about once every three months, you lose everything that you thought was a swing. Fifteen years later and you try to get back into a golf club, but budget limitations are still there, oops , look out the grand kids have started to arrive, and when do they come over for a visit Yup weekends when you turn into the ‘babysitter’.

Can’t grumble . luv me kids and the little G.C’s.

Retirement isn’t that far off and then ITS MY TURN.

My mrs likes to sleep in on the weekend so by the time I’ve finished my rounds (yes rounds….Sat and Sun every week) she’s just getting out of bed or has only moved to the couch. She’s the best :)

I might try manu99 line during the week :)
