Anyone know where Ben has gone? Tour Performance Golf in Camberwell looks very vacant. Has he relocated anywhere?

Topic: The Lounge / Hemiplegia Migraine

Veefore, Cams is half right. Google can be your friend, but there is a whole lot of misinformation on the web too. You need to be very selective about what you read and take note of. Information from large Western universities or hospitals is often reliable, but "Veefore's Website on Everything Migraine" sort of stuff should be kept well clear of. There is nothing stopping anyone publishing whatever they feel like on the net.

Yes Cams, there is one condition that smoking can actually help, but the negatives of smoking still outweigh the positives even for those people. Hope you find a healthier answer.

Cheers, Doc

Topic: Sports Talk / The 2007 Bombers

The following have to lift or be delisted.

M Johnson
Welsh
Cole
Camporale
Bradley
Johns
Bolton
Dyson
Heffernan
Laycock

Specky, I'd agree with all but Welsh, Dyson and Laycock. I've thought Welsh has been a good performer for a few years, and he's still young, playing a different role now too. Dyson needs to be given some time to gain confidence, as he's quick and has good skills, and Laycock is still young - many supporters would have happily got rid of Hille in his first few years, yet now we certainly miss him when he's not there. The rest are struggling.

Judge, I agree entirely re Sheeds. Last Friday night was the first time I've ever thought it was time for Sheeds to step aside at the end of this year. He has been outcoached for the last 3 weeks - and the one that hurts the most is being outcoached by Malthouse, who Sheedy has always done well against.

Who's on the list?
Neil Danihar -10 years at Melbourne for nothing - no thanks
Garry O'Donnell - not for the senior job
Mark Harvey - probably the best bet
Bomber Thompson - same as daniher
Michael Voss - love to see them take the punt - he might still be doing it in 27 years time!!
Libba - no
R. Pike - who?
Barry Mitchell - no
Dean Wallis - no

John Longmire - possibly

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Bill Coore at Barnbougle

I've returned tonight from 3 days at Barnbougle, and it looks like mac beat me to the punch. The barman told me Bill Coore was there last weekend when I asked him about the second course.
He gave me the impression that he wasn't supposed to be telling me, but I think he figured after many beers and my third Mr Jamaican Liquor Coffee I probably wouldn't remember!!

Barnbougle is in great nick at the moment, and there wasn't a breath of wind all 3 days. 4th and 12th driveable! smile.gif

Topic: Golf Equipment / Discount Balls

Just a heads up for those that use the Callaway balls. Golf Works in Burwood have them at $49 a dozen at the moment. Probably about 20 boxes of each left as of 2pm today. They are the newer model too, whiter cover and more durable than the original HX balls.

I bought 2 boxes to donate to the Marram at Barnbougle this weekend smile.gif

Heavily blinkered as far as Bombers concerned, but if Fletcher, Michael, Lucas and Lloyd stay fit we will make the 8. If 1 goes down we will struggle, 2 big injuries and we're toast.

Topic: Sports Talk / AFL Theme Songs are so Camp

I'll tell you exactly why they don't rock them up MrD, because they sound appallingly crap.

Essendon did exactly that about 10-12 years ago. Round 1, MCG, brand new rocked-up version of the theme song was played. Round 2, original version played and has been ever since after

thousands

of members complained. That crap rock version has not been heard since.

They're the ones with the problems. And who's paying for all the food? These people looked as poor as they get, they shouldn't be able to afford to eat so much cr@p.

Just give em a stick of celery and an apple, it's not like they'll be hopping out of bed to the fridge anyway.

Nuts follows the Lygon St boys I believe and TT is a bomber man.

You sure about Tithers - i thought he was a Pie.

I have not seen them all, but I loved Pulp Fiction, and the shoot out at the end of True romance is superb.

I agree that much of his violence is "funny violence"

One of the most frightening experiences of my life was watching Jackie Brown in a cinema in a very black neighbourhood of Washington DC. I was sitting next to an enormous bloke in a very large trenchcoat who was shouting out "You go n1gger" throughout the whole movie. I was very glad to get my little white self out of there in one piece.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Playing down the wrong fairway

i played at Kingston Links on sunday, and for the first time had a hit off the back markers. Previously I'd always played from the white tees.

While obviously a bit longer, the one thing that struck me was the clearly different strategy it provided, particularly on the 4th. Tithers review of Kingston Links describes it perfectly for those unfamiliar.

Now previously the 4th from the white tees was never more than a 3 iron off the tee for me, as anything more would potentially go over/scoot past the right fairway bunkers and into the water. From the back tees however, driver became a real option, however clearly the favourable line from the back is straight down the 5th fairway, as the pond runs on a diagonal to be out of reach entirely down this line, without any pots in the way.

after waiting for those on the 5th fairway to be out of the way, that is the line I took, ending up only 5-10 metres short of the pond at the beginning of the fifith fairway cut, and only a PW into the green, as opposed to at least a 7 iron if I had of played down the 4th fairway.

Now, is this poor design, where clearly the favourable path is straight down another fairway (with players potentially walking toward where you are hitting)? Or is it just a case of me thinking a bit laterally to my advantage.

For the record, I pulled the PW into the left pot, SW out, 2 putt bogey. a bad shot not bad strategy - I think.

Have you tried the Zyban golfdoc, does it really work?

Sorry postie, forgot i wrote in this one.

Personally no, no need as I've never smoked. Professionally yes, I've prescribed it to plenty of patients who wanted to stop smoking, and for nearly all of them it has worked.

The key is desire to quit. If you

really

want to stop, most methods will work if you understand the withdrawal process and are prepared for the side effects of nicotine withdrawal (which only lasts 5-7 days anyway).

So you can bowl reverse swing, but you don't know whether you are doing it with a 2 or 4 piece ball.

And if memory, serves me correct, qqq/chriss was from one of those prestigious schools, where I suspect you should be training on manicured turf wickets and using 4 piece balls. Prestigious schools do not train on matting wickets.

Some things just don't add up to me mellow.gif

Sort of true. Most "prestigious" schools have a mixture of turf and synthetic turf wickets. Many of the junior teams will play on the synthetic wickets. Not until in say year 9 did i regularly play on turf wickets at school. The nets situation is the same - usually a set of turf nets, and a set of synthetic nets for the juniors (and the crap senior blokes that couldn't play.)

I'm betting qqq/chriss isn't quite good enough to be let near the turf wickets yet.

I saw that place on the website it looks very formal. Do you have to pay to go there?

You pay for the service, and they fit you out with specs for you. They then give you a voucher that will give the cost of the fitting as a discount off your purchase at an authorised Callaway retailer. You can't actually buy the club(s) from the fitting centre. Read the info on the Callaway website, its all spelled out pretty clearly.

A funny thing happened this evening. It rained, a bit. Enough to form a rainbow in the East as the sun was setting.

Now, I just got my little boy out of bed to see it, as he has been asking about rainbows. The wonder and amazement on his face was brilliant. He asked to get in the car so we could drive over and touch it. Explaining how it formed and that we could never actually get to it was a challenge.

Small things as a parent are often very rewarding. smile.gif It's made my day.

Paid up Essendon member for about the 20th year running. Keep paying my membership + reserved seat for home games despite now going about 6 times a year if I'm lucky (directly related to having kids, and nothing to do with Essendon being less than competitive recently sad.gif ). As my 4yo gets a bit bigger I'll be able to go more, but all Essendons night games make it hard to take the little tacker. At 4, a half sees him out at the moment anyway.

This on top of the MCC - at least gets me into away games at the 'G without paying more.

Topic: Golf Talk / 12 blokes, 2 rounds, format ideas please

QUOTE: Jack @ Jan 24 2007, 03:37 PM

On the first day, when everyone is getting their first look at the course, play in 3 teams of 4.

Everyone plays their own ball playing stableford. You play a teams event - for the first 6 holes, best two stableford scores on the hole count, next 6 holes best 3 scores count, and on the last 6 holes all scores count. Team with the most stableford points at the end is the winner.

The format is great because it takes the pressure off the chopeers early on and prevents too much slow play cos blokes can pickup when out of the hole.

Thanks Jack.

format adopted for first day. unfortunately playing ambrose second day, so teams of 4 can stay together and several blokes like the ambrose format. Might give me a chance to have a crack at the 4th though.

i'll be playing another 2 rounds as well, so can live with 18 holes of ambrose for variety.

Cheers
Doc
