Topic: Golf Talk / Which North Brisbane Club?

Mate,

If I was in Brissy (It is my home away from home), I would advise you to consider Virginia, Nudgee or Redcliffe Golf Clubs on the Northside before Wantima or Northlakes.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Which mizuno iron?

Chevy,
The saying, “you do not have to draw pictures, just the number counts” on your scorecard is very true…however…for the 99% of people on this forum as you have said…they would dearly like to improve and when that times comes, their ball flight will and must improve. Hitting worm burners or having a non-consistent flight is not improvement. Yep, too many Amateurs use the wrong irons at times….being caught up in their ball-flight is not a bad thing, it is what you should be striving for….a more consistent flight pattern.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Gary Edwin

Have not got into this “K-Vest” thing as of yet. Will have a look at it though, google and investigate so as for now, I cannot post on it. However, the A, AA, AAA grading of Professionals here in Australia sort of trips me out a bit. Is a AAA better than an A or is an AA almost an AAA. Personally, I know many A guys who have their slice of the cake more so than an AAA guy so the grading is all over the place. What does the normal club golfer/beginner go with when deciding on a coach? Will an A be worse/better than an AA/ AAA coach etc? I am also really intrigued to find out as guru has mentioned the changes/suggestions etc. Gosh, so many ways to teach this game but at the same time, each person is different and needs a “different approach”. That is the amazing thing about this game. It is forever changing at times. Small steps lead to bigger steps.

Topic: Golf Talk / tips for match play

Publish,

I agree to an extent but also disagree with your last post to an extent. Are we talking about club matchplay when there are h’caps involved or interclub matchplay? Anyway, I walk talk about matchplay with no h’caps involved. When I used to play pennants, our team consisted of 11 guys ranging from handicaps of 5-9. I was the only player in the team who played off less than 5 (scratch). Why did I play at a club like this? I liked the blokes, all mates, good club but that is another story, etc. When we played other clubs, their teams all had players on h’caps of 5 or more. When it was my game, I went for broke from the first hole. It was to put fear into my opponent that I could hit it past him by 40, flush it, blade putts etc and it worked almost every single time bar a few as the other guy had the game of his life. That happens. If I was 3 up with 4 to play, I would want to nail him to be 4 up and win. That extra hole “win” helps at the end of the season.
Attacking or taking a risk is up to the individual but if you have doubt in your mind, do not do it. Risk can lead to failure at times but being smart is what it is all about.
The worst thing you can do is play the game you do not usually play. If you opponent see’s that you are trying to hold the game or indeed hold your score in strokeplay, he will sense this and lift on occasions. Well, thats just my 50 cents. Each to their own I suppose. Try attacking in your next matchplay game from the first tee and see if it works for you.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Square headed drivers

mattmiddo,

It sounds obvious but go into a golf shop and ask to demo both the ft-i and sumo square out on a range/course in your own time. What works for some may not for others. Just my opinion, if you are in the 20’s looking to improve, you will not find the answers to your game going with a new driver always. Improvement starts with the short game, not the long game.

Hitting a shot under pressure? This thread is starting to go somewhere now. We have all heard the words, “will the swing hold up under pressure?”
