Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test Took the 888 for another tour around the jungle today. Confirms my idea that this is a long ball…off all clubs…and I never really got used to the idea when hitting irons today. Bit of wind around this morning – rides the wind really well for some really good with-the-wind drives and seemed to be affected no more or less by head winds than I would expect for a premium ball. With my swing this ball only spins into the green if perfectly struck, otherwise it runs a fair bit. For example, played a sand shot with (what I thought was) a very crisp contact. The ball ran almost as far as it flew … leaving a long couple of putts to come back. I got a couple of well-struck irons to behave very well but generally I was playing back to the cup from shots that had rolled WAY to far. I have previously said it felt good off the putter but today I could not get comfortable with it and my lines and distances were way out. Longevity seems very good, with the UV cover giving the type of wear we have come to understand. Another round tomorrow will be another test for it. I hope my swing behaves tomorrow…it most certainly did not today, and this makes testing a ball somewhat different. |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test I am starting to get a feel for the UV and hit some great drives today, out over 200 most times, including a drive to fringe on the short Par 4 at WV. Got good bounce over the ditch. Got some chips to grip, hitting down hard with the lobby. Put one pin high with an 8 iron that GPS said was 135 out, but 120 to front of green. Happy with the putt that dropped for birdie too. |

Most bets seem to be in favour for some lucky householder to get a 2 round old BOB to play with next round. Seriously, A nice round Smergen, that trip to the cold in Wales did you good. |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test Just thought I’d chime in here with a bit of a nice tale. Went out for a hit yesterday with a few ISG’rs and was trying to decide what ball to use. Thinking back to 808’s performance in summer last year I decided to move away from the X3 / e6 white ball combo I’d used recently and decided I’ll tee it up with an old friend. On the first grabbed an older 808 (always use older balls on the first two holes with OOB right) and hit off. After parring the first 3 holes I decided I’d keep going until this Bob’s mojo ran out. 18 holes later… I’d just rolled in my 4th sub 80 round and an equal PB ‘played to 7’! And whilst the ball looked like it’d been beaten around the bush with a big stick (only found the trees twice) it sailed up the 18th perfectly… It’s very strange though. As a ‘feel’ I don’t like it as much as the others. Still very clunky off the putter (but I putted well…) compared to the other balls. But it’s performance and reliability is undeniable. In the rock hard conditions and ability to allow for extra run and roll, it was perfect. Not sure he’ll survive a 3rd round though… Mind you, he’ll line up on the 1st and 2nd again and we’ll see how we go! |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test Rightio, finally got to give the ‘tour master’ ball a proper go for about 3/4 of a round, instead of just little bits here and there. However, tour master distance wise is very much close to BOB. Maybe a little longer with the irons, but nothing too noticeable to be honest. Maybe half club, but prop less. I liked putting with it, but it seemed to take more break than BOB. Maybe it’s cause of the different covers?? On a similar note, I was in Fiji the last couple of weeks and had a round at Natadola Bay. The grass they use there is ‘seashore paspalen’. I don’t know how many of you have played on this type of surface, but it’s really weird to putt on. It looks soft and squishy and like its gona be slow and break a mile, but it just skims across the top like your putting on ice. I also wana say, I’ve flushing the guts out of it lately, so that could very well be why the new balls all go straight and long!! I’ll be in touch Boz, need to restock by next Sat….... :) |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test I found that with the light pink ball too – difficult to see on the ground particularly around the dry gum tree leaves in the slightly longer grass EDITED TO ADD – plus it’s a bit girly. |

I have found that in the right conditions, The Blue Pink & Yellow balls all show up better than the white ball in the air. Once on the ground in most cases the UV is easiest to find but again not always. I think it mostly depends on the conditions on the course you play . What time of year it is & what the weather conditions are at the time. |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test Boz – Black widow grip (driver) fit – ok so this baby has had about 8 rounds, initially i liked it but after a while i thought it was a little bit skinny in my little boy hands wear – i clean my grips pretty much weekly in the summer as i dont wear a glove, it come back nicely each time, a wear mark started developing where my thumb sits but hasnt really got worse since & is in the normal spot so not to concerned. i showed to cb80 yesterday before i toweled them up and he liked it. the white grip on a white shaft looks good as opposed to black grip on white shaft, winter – winter or rain will be interesting as when i wore gloves the vision glove was king, so if the grip is along the same lines i cant wait for it to piss down, besides we need rain here boz – have not played the foremost and big yard as they arent yours, did you want me to try them? i have the vision with the hand written 3 and blue crown left to compare with kiwi |

thanks Boz The normal commercial New product development time is around 12 -18 months from concept to commercial production and market release. That means the R & D team at Titleist are already working on 2015 model. wonder if Pro V’s will be yellow in 2015. or what other colours they will come up with. keep up good work Boz |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test Every two years there is a NEW ProV1 / V1X release,,,,, New packs ,slightly better cover durability through better paint I like the following quote from a PGA event last year to show what happens when you get balls for free plus the obvious improvement in the paint,,,, Despite all the changes inside the new golf balls, which debuted on the Tour at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in late October, much of the feedback on Tour has been about the durability of the cover of the new Pro V1 and Pro V1X golf balls. “Players have told me, ‘I usually play nine or 10 balls a round, but [with the new ball] I just played this round with two or three balls,’” Mahoney said. The 2011/12 balls have been on sale in the US for $US39.95 and less Over the past 13 years it has not really changed a lot,,,,,,,,, There just isn’t a lot of innovation in balls left for the regular Boz |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test Not sure if this is right thread to bring this up but has anyone noticed that 2 major golf outlets in Vic are having big discount sales on Titleist ProV and Pro V 1’s. Usually when say discount sale = oversupply and we need to get rid of stock real fast. Is there a new model about to be released. anyone else noticing this. |

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test so took the 888 (Bob’s new brother) out for a run today. However, I really only had a half-round to judge the ball with. I got smacked right in the middle of my sternum by a full-hit (but VERY badly pulled 3-wood) on the 10th. kinda takes your mind off the game after that. 17points out, 14in. I have a bruise worth photographing! 888 will get more runs – the cover is barely marked (couple of little nicks out of the sand). In summary, a nice long ball with minimal but some spin while quite predictable run-out on chips etc. It putts consistently although still a little “plasticky” in sound. |
