Hi NW,

I am looking at replacing the cover material on the PT with a
brand new polymer which I will call Gel-Soft that should be
more flexible and as such it should go in and out of grooves
better without shearing as much whilst helping with partial
wedge spin but without increasing driver spin numbers.

This is a much better way to build a better premium cover instead
of just spraying a NEW lacquer on it!

The bonus will be that I should also be able to get my colour
concepts to pop in a brighter way.

More work though to be done yet,,,,,,,,,,,, Boz :-)

Actually Boz, if you can put longevity into the Crowny, I reckon you will have an absolute ball-buster (pardon the pun)
It is good and long, good an spinny, good and obedient, just gets a little cut up.

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test

Hi Guys,

I have been in research mode this week so I have some
questions that you guys might have some thoughts on.

Spin : Ball design

Partial wedge spin levels tend to depend on a large number of
different variables with cover softness being one factor for sure
that we have discussed at length over the years..

If I was to tell you that I found a new lacquer finish that was
applied on to the outer cover that was grippier than my normal
lacquer,,,,,,would you believe me?

What if I told you this lacquer was also able to make the balls
cover feel softer, would you believe that this sprayed on finish
could be thick enough to be felt?

If it did in fact help to create more spin by increasing the friction
level between the balls cover and your club face would you also
expect it to increase the side spin on poor shots that had a
glancing nature to the angle of attack, even if it was with your
driver?

We all have a fair idea of how long that slick lacquer lasts on a
ProV1 maybe 6 holes maybe longer depending on how many
shots , how long do you think my new grippy lacquer will last
when the balls in play?

Golf marketing coming out of the US is top shelf, but the truth
in marketing is what you probably want it to be, real performance
rather than technologies that are not quite for real.

By the way has anyone found the extra 24 (17+7) yards with
their new 3 wood in the past 12 months that had been using
a well fit 3 wood before their change of club?

This new ball maybe better and after 13 years of chasing the
ProV1 they might be close but the stories are what I find
interesting from a design and marketing perspective.

Over to you guys any thoughts,,,,, Cheers, Boz

.Please Read this Disclaimer which is an integral part of my Post
.My posts are just my written opinions, fiction or satire.

Ok Would I believe you? Yes…

Would I expect it to effect side spin? Yes of course… Spin is spin.

How long should the new Grippy cover last? Well I would never pay the price of a ProV1 and have to change it after 9 holes but at your prices Boz I would not mind haveing to use 2 balls per round. I think that would be the case anyway with water and OOB taken into account.

3 wood question? I have but my old 3 wood was a 1990s version Brosnan that I bought off ebay and now have a new Cobra AMP cell woods, Driver, 3-4 wood and 2-3 Hybrid.

My perfect ball, Mmmmmm
Feels soft off the clubface.
Can be worked left or right but not stupid amounts.
Is above average in length but does not have to be a power ball.
Will stop on the green, our Queensland greens are hard and I have never seen a ball back up even by the pro’s in the pro-am comps I have played but if I hit a full shot from say 100m and land on the green I don’t want to see it disappear off the back.
- Longevity: Not really an issue if the ball is reasonably priced, 9 holes would be fine.

The FTL and BOB ball are both very close, the BOB feels a bit hard in the hand to hold it. That alone makes a difference I think but it plays well.

Hope that helps Boz!!!

Hi Guys,

See I don’t believe it would be in my best interest
to make claims that are when you really think about it quite
unreal in nature yet I am seeing hundreds of thousands of
dollars being spent to sell this kind of story at present, and
no one in the media worldwide has questioned the concept.

I am just curious whether anyone cared about it or not and
is this what is needed to get players interested in an alternative
Premium ball nowadays,,,,,Foremost , Volvik, Wilson, Maxfli,
Shark,,,,the list of brands that are trying to get your attention
is long and yet in reality I don’t think any of them can hope
to succeed when you look at how much money Srixon are
having to spend to get your attention.

Maybe the fact the balls are becoming so much like one
another that the need for choice is becoming less relevant
and with the dropping prices of even the top balls there seems
to be no real need to bother with alternatives outside the true
Premium Tour Validated designs.

I think the key factor to the claim is ‘you said’. I feel I speak for everyone who has dealt with you that you tell us fact not fiction and we’ve (at least I ) have developed trust in your knowledge.

As for the other brands they also can develop trust in their users. Usually manufactured and manipulated by good marketing to make people feel as if they belong to their team.

Hay Mr Boz
it sounds really intriguing…are they going to market a ball that is only good for 6 holes (i.e. around 25-30 shots, INCLUDING putts)???

Are you saying this polymer could be applied to a monster distance ball (like those horrendous ALDI specials) to give a ball with monster spin too?

Who has brought it to your attention…VSL??

Hi ST,

Thanks for the posts and I hope you see that the Vision
approach to our player group is a positive for your game.

I just feel that the experience my family has had working with and helping Elite Professional and Amateur players here in Oz and NZ over the years was worth sharing with regular players at a club
level especially in the over 40 group that seems to be taken for
granted nowadays. :-)

Cheers,
Boz

Ordered my ISG test pack (showbag) yesterday afternoon, paid for them before I left work

Receptionist emailed me today around 2pm, delivery at reception desk for you

Happy days, off to a great start and can’t wait to try out the balls

Great dealing with you so far Boz, thanks and how nice is it to be able to support a local company as well, who seem to listen too

I like the feel of the balls as well, really keen to get the wedge out around the greens particularly, but I need to read through this thread and work out which ball does what

See us Coona fellows do know a thing or two…..

Balls take with a grain of salt what you read, all players have different go to balls and it is only from trial and error you will find the ball that best suits your game. As Mr Boz would say don’t disregard a ball after one outing it could purely be the way you where swinging on that day, revisit it from time to time and your opinions could well change….

Without knowing if he throw in a ball that has Russell stamped on it keep it as a collector he is the team mascot, see here
http://forums.iseekgolf.com/forums/13-golf-equipment/topics/21548-name-bozs-new-ball
Just some more light reading….

Any questions fire away here, we will try and answer them for you

Node what is the RRP on these? I have one of the originals that Boz kindly included with my first batch of balls and I wasn’t as lucky with the second package. The new version looks good too.

Noticed an ad for Vision golf on back of Golf Victoria magazine Feb / march 2013 edition.
Nice big yellow ball and ad for glove.

The Vision gloves are comfortable, very durable and dont slide around when wet or sweaty like other gloves tend to do.
even washed an old one I use for practice came up tops and feeling good again. cant do that with OEM gloves.

good luck with the gloves Boz

Hi Guys,,,,,,

Thanks for the updates, it is always good to hear and yes the
painted FTL is very old school in presentation, so as the new
designs do finally make an appearance there wont be any paint involved as the FlexiGel cover material can be coloured and as
such gives the right amount of durability and feel.

I am not there yet with the new balls as the right adjustment in overall feel and more importantly putter and partial wedge feel
is now being achieved but overall driver distance on some of the
balls could be maxed out a bit further.

The PT and #1 + #2 in the hand written balls in white seem very
close to where I want to be next but the coloured versions need
more work.

Cheers,
Boz

Had a practice 18 holes today and played the Vision ball with the big red crown on it and the hand written number…

I have only good things to say about this ball, it felt great off the face of all my clubs, it was not particularly long but certainly was not short.

I could work the ball either way when needed and it chipped and putted well.

It would probably be a gamer if it was available.

Nice work Boz…

I have played a couple of rounds with the normal Vision yellow balls. My normal gamer is the FTL. I really like the feel of the yellow balls and am tempted to switch my regular ball. The big difference for me is the feel of the cover is so much nicer off the putter etc and it seems to wear quite a bit better than the FTL.
