Hi Guys,

I have been looking to get my Test Pilot Team Facebook page
sorted recently as there are many overseas players that have
asked me to locate more interaction/feedback in one place.

A lot more of my future work will have to be focused on the
larger international markets as ours in very much in a mess
a present with too much stock / choices and as expected
pressure from the major brands on retailers to shift their
gear as a priority.

In order to set the address / user name up I will require 25 likes
is this ok to ask here,,,,,

If so I will put the info up later today.

Cheers,
Boz

Okay now for something completely different. ....

Of late I have been hitting the golf ball like crap with the result being that the ball could and has gone in many and varied directions. ...

So what to do. .... decided to clean out golf bag and cart of golf balls. .... good idea. ... 50 golf balls of various varieties that I have used from the Vision range and a whole stack of impostors. ...

So I have spent last 3 rounds hitting different balls
Sirzon Q Star ….. could live with of the tee and around the course however I couldn’t live with it on the green. It seemed to want to explode of the putter and the number of 3 putt greens was sole destroying. ... usually I can get a handle on the feel of a ball on the greens after a couple of holes not with this ball. Did go the whole round with it but things never looked like improving so it’s into the practice ball bag.

When Boz sends something new to try I have always been able to make the necessary adjustments quickly this ball no way known. ..

Next some random thoughts on a Callaway HX Diablo ball

Hi ST,

No I am not finished yet on the design as there are some new
materials coming online in the next few months that have not
been used before in cores and covers that I would like to test
before finalising the 2014 version.

The X4 prototypes v1.01 and v1.02 that have been passed
around so far went to existing players to see if firstly they
were happy with the changes as current players are very
important to maintain, & then did they see the improvements
as being practical and valid.

Remind me next time we are talking and I will see what I can
do seeing you now have a handle on the current designs.

Cheers,
Boz

Hi Boz

When will the X4 UV Yellow be out? I’m really keen to try it, unless I have already if it was one of the balls in my pack…

Hi Deege,

Ok the Blue white works but I have a gold pearl effect in the
lacquer that can sparkle or can potentially dull down a bit
especially if the ball is picking up dust and dirt along the way.

Hey Pom, you will love the X4 when its done!

Finally found a course on the weekend where Crows do not steal balls. Of any type colour or description. Just my luck that I did not have 1 yellow ball in my bag.:-(
Had to use the X3s all weekend. 3 matches of pennant play. Managed to win 2 . Still love that X3

The X3 I was playing was white – it just seemed to be a little duller than the ball I am used to playing. It might have been a mistaken impression on my part – will see if I feel the same next time I am playing it.

Thanks Deege, good info,,,,

yes I am looking at the glove sizes with a #19 to be marked as
a Ladies small going forward and I think this is as much about
the fact the glove is better when its tighter.

I have used a FJ ML for ever and went to a #25 for a long time
but have moved down to #24 for a better overall performance.

Lets see how you go plus as soon as the thumb starts to feel
slippery inside the glove it needs a wash.

X3 UV Yellow is too Srixon Qstar like in its colour for sure but
the X4 UV Yellow will be sharper and brighter in its colouring
so that it does pop when needed.

Cheers,
Boz

Second item – Vision X3

I scored a sleeve of these balls from WINNING THE LONGDRIVE at OOM. So I thought I would give them a go to start with.

My first impression began on the practice putting green with a very big positive impression – the feel off the putter face was good and it certainly seemed to hold a good line for me – at least on the putting green I was very confident of the roll and the weight needed.

As for length, I certainly didn’t lose any length from the X3 – I hit some lovely drives which put me in places I hadn’t been before on certain holes. Hard to judge whether this was all due to the new ball, as my length with the driver has been improving, but it was certainly just as long as and possibly longer than the FTL.

With irons and around the greens I didn’t particularly notice a great deal of difference with the ball from my normal. It had a nice predictable roll out with chipping and pitching which performed pretty much how I wanted it to.

I don’t know if it was coincidental but there were a few occasions when I almost lost this ball just because it didn’t seem to pop when nestled in the rough – it didn’t seem as bright as a white as my normal ball which affected visibility on the ground somewhat.

All in all, I quite liked this ball, but would like to swap it a couple of times with the FTL to improve my impressions.

Okay, so tried out some new Vision equipment on the weekend.

First, the glove.

I am normally a ladies medium in the glove, and found that the size 21 was a touch too big. The size 20 was perfect, but without allowing for any give. My preferred glove normally is the footjoy and I do find that the leather does give a bit after a while and they end up being a bit loose. I will be interested to see how the vision glove goes in that regard. However, given that I normally take a medium, this means that there are those that will find the smallest vision size to be too large.

Lookswise I thought the glove was great. I really liked the gray. Otherwise, I thought it had a good grip and didn’t really notice or pay attention to it for the rest of the round, which I guess is what you would expect.

Hi Guys,,,,,

Sir T, perfect info as from what you said before this type of
report gives me a good picture so thank’s for that.

Hi Lip ,, talk to me as you have my attention, plus I am happy
also to play the X4 but it can better as it should be as hot as the
PT with the driver and I want to de-tune the putter speed a touch.

Cheers,
Boz

Finally have been able to give UV888’ and UVX4 a decent go, without being scared off by crows…....... (although the 888 ended up getting stolen at a course I’ve enever seen a crow before!!)
Both balls have around 25-30 holes into them, so reckon that gona give me a pretty good idea of what their go is.

UV888:
very, very similar to BOB. Which is a good thing. BOBs always been my favourite, so this ball is in some good company. Distances were pretty much the same, if there was any difference, it was negligible….. The main difference between the BOB and 888 is the sound/feel. Much softer. I don’t think it added much towards spin, as in my opinion BOB had enough spin in it to keep me happy, but I gave the impression it might have a bit more spin in it.
But it is hot off the putter face. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not, but I liked it. I didn’t have to hit the ball so hard and it would just rocket off…........

UVX4:
Here’s my new favourite. If Boz started putting this into ‘mass’ production, I’d be all over it!!
Long, straight, and awesome….....full of awesome’ness!! By far and away, the straightest golf ball I’ve ever hit, especially with the irons. Couple of times I actually tried to hit slices (to get around trees etc) and would lucky to see it fade.
Stops on a dime, with the odd ball bouncing back out of its divot, but never actually seen it spin backwards. Not saying it didn’t, or couldn’t, but i never seen it with my own eyes (and I’m only referring to this as a good thing, cause it deffinetly is).
Without doubt, the longest of all the UV balls. Not the longest ball I’ve ever hit, and not the longest Vision ‘prototype’ I’ve ever hit, but it’s up there.
Good feel around the greens, can get it to land soft on even the firmest greens, and like the 888 (above) rockets off the putter face with a nice soft sound…......

I’ve been lucky/fortunate/privileged enough to try a lot of ‘prototype’ balls over the years, and a heap of proto’s in this current run as well. And I’ve got my couple of favorites, and would love to see these put into production. But by the sounds of things there’s plenty more ‘happenings’ behind the scene that sound pretty dam cool…..

By the way Boz, I made another interesting purchase the other day that is extremely cool, and you might be interested in knowing about…..... I’ll try and be in touch in the next day or 2 and let you know. :)

SirTopallot

Good to hear that Boz has looked after you…...

Story first then some thoughts. What seems a lifetime ago I decided that the way I was loosing golf balls and the need to replace same I would prefer to put my money in Australian hands rather than those who throw money at Pro’s to use their products. So to Mr Google I went and and after some searching came upon Vision and this forum. I am proud of the fact that I am VTTP 006 and that I have a mate called Wayne Bosley as a result.

Balls…... Next time you go for a bash take some a a group, so if you loose one you have the same to replace it with. Vision balls will give you a consistent roll out so some thought needs to go into the landing zone but once you have that in mind it becomes second nature. Some will say and I tend to agree that the Vision ball on the putting green tends to hold its line more so than other balls….

Enjoy the experience and take note of what you throw in the bag for your next outing. All feedback here is welcome so long as it is constructive. That is how Boz learns, what might be the the Bees Knees for one might be totally unsuitable for someone else. We all end up with a go to ball in the range but aren’t afraid to try what else we have..

It’s a nice looking pack Deege isn’t it, I liked the tees too.

So, here’s an honest, balanced appraisal.

I played 3 games on the weekend, and took my new Srixon Z star tour yellows and my Vision pack with me.

I was rushed with a group on each game, and to be honest, unfortunately I forgot to work out which Vision ball did what before I went, but I can say:

1. I really enjoyed hitting the Srizon Z Stars and equally the Vision balls (this is a compliment to the Vision ones)

Vision only feedback now:

2. I liked the feel of the Vision yellows on the outside and how they felt off the bat

3. I got good spin around the greens with both, Vision also (not sure which was more as my partner in one game lost 3 of them in the water traps!!)

I’m no pro, I’m working my way up to be hopefully a consistent player, but from an amateur perspective, they looked, felt and flew great

My swing speed is around 105mph and I was teeing off with the G25 driver, Cleveland wedges and a Brosnan Taipan set

I used the glove, and it felt comfortable

So, a good days outing and test.
I’d prefer to support a local company so will have these in my bag and keep trying them out for a bit

Sounds trivial maybe, but I liked how both balls had the logo with the arrows, so I could line up the intended path for flight off the tee

And, fortunately the crows were good to me on the weekend…

Shared this with Boz…....and got this reply which I thought I’d share:

This was the moment a couple years ago when I knew I had more information
than Srixon.

They tested balls briefly with their US based players in Hawaii, some put it
into play with Tim being
the best known at that time. Their colour is a lime green towards a faded
yellow so the US marketing
guys had to make some stories on the fly as they had no story to tell. In TV
there is a Green room
that guests wait in prior to going on the set of show, this is coloured
Green because it was researched
that it was the one of the most calming colours,,,,,,,,,

So Visual Performance which was partially discussed after this particular
match by Tim who said,
“hey yeah I could see my Yellow ball much better than Vijay’s White ball
when they were on the
green!” was not a genuine researched concept because they had just copied
Kasco in Japan and
me without understanding why we were doing what we were with UV type
coloured balls.

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test

Hi Chip, please send me an email and I will fill you in,
wayne at visiongolfball.com.

I have to say though that for $38 a dozen that is a lot of golf ball
, 5 layers plus a premium urethane cover and tour validation of
the design,,,,,

Why is it that all the big companies are now selling such good
designs so much cheaper than in the past, is it because they
should never have been so expensive or that the Tour ball market is not as large as they all thought it was? Remember Tour spin
type ball designs are not the best ball type for most current players
that require help keeping the ball on the course.

I am looking to design my next updates that feel similar to these balls with controlled spin levels but with perhaps a fresh take on
the look of the cover and how it works in play so that it makes
better sense that Vision even exists in the marketplace.

Thanks for asking,
Boz.

Hi MR Boz, I have been using the Penta TP5 balls, which I get for around $38/dozen. I’d like to try some of your balls, what would be similar quality/performance for the same money or less?

Thanks, Chip.

Topic: Vision Golf Ball Test

Hi Deege,

Yes the colour wasn’t exactly what I was working on in the lab
as I was hoping to use this lighter colour with the UV effect but
I needed to produce a enough normal balls to see first of all
what they would look like in a proper production run so more
work is going on but I do believe a Violet or Blue ball would
be used by both men and woman and as such a better idea
perhaps,,,but yes there are still plenty of Pink balls being bought.

White is another area I have been spending a lot of time on
over the years as the many whites out there are not that bright
or they start bright and dull down during the first round used
as long life white can hurt sales of new balls for the majors.

I have a UV White that I have been testing that looks quite
interesting like the UV Yellow cover if you can imagine in
that partial transparent style,,,,this is a design I believe will
be more acceptable to a larger group of current players but
I have not got it right yet.

Cheers
Boz

Sure, pegasus. I found it interesting that the vision pink golf ball (which I thought would be easy to see) I actually struggled to find when I played with it, because that pale pink tended to blend in with the eucalyptus leaves and so on. But the only reason I tried a pink ball at all was because it was in a Vision sample pack – normally I wouldn’t play a pink ball, which makes it annoying that so many of the women’s golf balls are available in pink.

Anyway, I certainly find the yellow ball to be very visible, but don’t know if I will move away from using a white ball in the long term.
