Topic: Woodlands - membership question

They have started a waiting list for the 30-34 age group as the quota is now full. All other categories are still open, but I’m sure they wouldn’t knock you back.

Did you make a decision on where to join?

Brad, I believe there’s no waiting list at the moment and subs are around $1800 p.a. (7 day). They had a joining fee of around $900 a little while ago, not sure what it is now :)

Does anybody know the costs and waiting time for long island?

I am also looking at Woodlands – one attraction is the very short process and waiting time compared to the more ‘prestigious’ sandbelt clubs. I have heard from peolpe who have played most of these that Woodlands is very much towards the top.

In my experience Waterford Valley is actually a lot quieter than most public courses due to the $50 green fees. It’s not a particularly attractive course yet, but the greens are v.good and there are some challenging holes, esp. the 18th, and the par 3s are all pretty long (160m – 180m I think). That said, it’s not brutally difficult.

I started playing there semi-regularly after I got sick of 5 hour rounds at Ivanhoe. Tooks some visiting senior management types there and everyone was happy.

But now I’m a member just around the corner from where I live.

Really nice course is WV – but you dont get rid of the major gripes with public/pay to play course – tee-times, hackers, general over crowding etc etc.

I haven’t seen that type of membership structure anywhere else, but I don’t see why you would opt for that. Once you are a member for over 2 years, you may as well have joined as a normal member (at Woodlands anyway).

Hally – the only thing with the introductory rights – is that I dont think you can play Sunday mornings (and saturdays are a no go full stop). Thats a real bummer for me.

Anyone know what reciprocity Woodlands has in the area??

There are a few around.

Spring Valley is the closest. Riversdale, Kew and Sorrento.

Like a few clubs in the area they have swap days with a couple of clubs.

I know both fairly well, I would choose Woodlands over Southern for the golf alone.
A great test of golf.
I would play Patterson River at no joining fee if that deal is still around.

If you can get over the Westgate (as most people from the Northern Bayside Suburbs think you need a passport) Have a look at Kooringal in Altona. Reasonably cheap, around $1,200 p/a 7day (there is a nom fee of around the same) course layout has been fully renovated by Craig Parry’s design company) & a Private Course.

Woodlands is a great course, good test of golf to all levels. I had a few mates who left Patterson Lakes to Woodlands a they enjoy it there.

Members are friendly and can always get on if you book early.

I have not played P River

Any recommendations for a club in the bayside area? Seems I’m surrounded by exclusive clubs and public courses.

Have been happy with the public courses but the slow and crowded play is starting to get to me.

Am currently looking at Woodlands and Patterson Lakes but both are a bit further than I’d like to travel on a regular basis.

Any thoughts?

Sunshine is a very friendly membership group. Quite cheap. 6 day membership 850 witha 900 joining fee. Brand new course (Craig Parry Design not Graham Marsh as mentioned earlier). Course is holding up quite well at the moment and is not nearly as far as Sanctuary Lakes.

I’m considering Sanctuary Lakes to my list now. Anyone got a view on this club as a current/previous member?

Is Northern that bad, Hack? I don’t want to join (long way to travel for a game of golf from Buderim).

bud where mate?

yes it is that bad. The members can be pricks too. Lost a wedge on course one day and was never returned. Complete private course too.

Thats interesting as i was looking at joining northern. Work is 20 minutes away and the golf course is between home and work. I emailed them with some questions re joining 4 times in a month & got no reply?? Never been a member anywhere so not sure if email is the go or you ring. Any one else got opinion on this club??

if you want to pay the $2000 elite course joining fee and be treated to a C class course, then by all means waste your money. The club pro is a c@nt. Cant even have a tiny emblem on my socks without getting nagged at for not being entirely white.

Which course is that Hack? (Northern i presume)

At the risk of hijacking this thread, can someone please tell me what Northern is like. I lived around the corner when I grew up, and often wandered around in the rough (hiding from the golfers).

Thinking of having a round in May, back to memory lane.

There’s nothing like being member of a course around the corner from where you live – reduced travel times + petrol costs = more golf and better value

As long as it isn’t a real scrubber of a course, that is…

Patterson Lakes keeps advertising in my local rag that if you join there you also get some sort of reciprocal playing rights at 6 other clubs – can’t remember them all but one was Long Island. Sounded like a decent deal.
