Cliff and MW – the points you have made about the event being promoted in Bundall are fair and relevant and that is something that can be looked at next time. I did see three or four guys from the Bundall golf precint there on the night although clearly you were not one of them Cliff.

While your point is relevant, to suggest that the people at Emerald Lakes didn’t promote the event in that area because ‘they didn’t want their fairways trampled is a little rich.’ I know it was probably a throw away line but it is far from the truth. I think Emerald Lakes does a lot for golf in this region and they would have welcomed as many as possible to the event.

It should also be noted that two huge billboards have been placed on the Nerang Broadbeach road for the past twp months with a picture of Ian Baker-Finch and info on the event.

As much as it pains me to say it, I can certainly see Cliff’s pov on this one. I’m nowhere near the event, but if you had advertised something like that over here, in similar publications to those that were mentioned, I don’t think I would have seen / heard it either. But yes, I do poke around things on shop windows, and I’m pretty sure that a well trained staff member at the local golf store would have said ’/are you going to the local event?’

Maybe I am in the minority, and Aust golf is trying to cover as big an audience as possible. But maybe a little specific audience targetting would go along way as well, and like Cliff said, it would cost bugger all.

Oh yeah, I may not have gone to the event, but I guarantee there would have been other golfers that would have seen a sign posted in our window, as well as other windows in Bundall Golf shops.

Being a single Father, I may not have had the money or time, to attend the event, although my kids, 10 and 13 both golfers, may have enjoyed going, of course we’ll never know now will we????

“they don’t blame ME for their problems any more, they’ve grown past that crap, where as you obviously haven’t….”

Cliff I’m not sure I was blaming you for my problems in fact in relation to the Shootut I don’t have any. There were a 1000 people there on Thursday night and we didn’t miss you a bit.

“we bitch and moan and complain when there is this perception that someone else in the golf world is STEALING our clients or a little part of our golf world, we attempt to shut down other shops that sell golf product by using contacts in the Council, I could go on and on, but what is the point?”

where on earth are you coming form with this and what has that got to do with anything. Cliff you sound like a very angry man with an amazing chip on your shoulder. You had an unfair go at another publication earlier then had a go at the organisers of an event who have worked hard to provide an opportunity for both Von Nida Tour and Senior Tour golfers – just where are you coming from? Lighten up

The whole point of my first post was to point out the lack of communication in the golf industry. The problem is turf, it’s MY turf, you stay off it… It’s WHY I didn’t know about this event, the organisers didn’t do a BASIC marketing ploy that costs next to NOTHING! You go to Bundall where the 8 or 9 independent Golf shops live and you put a little sign up in the window!!!!

YOU made it MY problem, it’s NOT my problem, it never was… some how in your mind it’s MY fault I didn’t find out about this event, I believe that YOU are the one with the problem when you can’t see the real situation here…

As for my Comments regarding Golfer Pacific they were NOT unfair in any way shape or form. They were born of direct experience… something not a lot of Journalists understand and the reason why I don’t read many magazines, none actually, even when they are free, I just skim…. as a matter of fact it’s why this forum is SOOOO effective. The poster asked for comment regarding Golfer Pacific, I told it as it is, and stopped him making a BIG mistake… this publication struggles to find sales staff, I KNOW that for a fact, there was another newbie knocking on our door last week, it’s their People Management, they have no idea, it will kill them in the end unless they change….

As for the bitching and moaning, the stealing, and shutting down of golf outlets, this sort of anti competitive action happens all the time, this is the reality of the Golf World…. see above re my comments on TURF… it’s a disease, and the symptoms are a Lack Of Basic Communication, like this event….

Do I have a chip on my shoulder? No I don’t, however I don’t appreciate being blamed for someone else’s failings, I don’t care whether these people support the Von Nida tour, or provide left handed Monkeys with ADHD and a background in Voting Democrat, a home to live, it doesn’t change the fact they couldn’t be bothered communicating with the Retail side of Golf in a very basic manner… not only are they letting themselves down, they let down a lot of other golfers as well….

Did you NOTICE anything I said other than the bits you chose to read? I WORK IN A GOLF SHOP!!!!!! Where I would have thought it would have been a good idea to put a little NOTICE saying this was on… WE DON’T TALK IN THIS INDUSTRY That’s what’s wrong with it…. we stick to our little insular parts of the world that MEAN so much to us and can’t believe that there is anything else in golf outside of it…. we bitch and moan and complain when there is this perception that someone else in the golf world is STEALING our clients or a little part of our golf world, we attempt to shut down other shops that sell golf product by using contacts in the Council, I could go on and on, but what is the point?

Your aggressive attitude says it all…. I work in a golf shop in the area yet regardless OF WHAT YOU THINK was enough it bloody well wasn’t enough, if it was me and MY BOSS would have known about this event, WE DIDN’T… IT’S the FAULT of the ORGANISERS! NOT MY FAULT!!!!! YOU sound like my ten year old, no I won’t say that, they don’t blame ME for their problems any more, they’ve grown past that crap, where as you obviously haven’t….

I Don’t listen to the local radio news, I DON’T watch local TV News, I CERTAINLY don’t read the local crap newspapers, and why should I bother reading the golf news on ISG, it doesn’t interest me in the least…. I work all day in a golf shop, I talk golf all day both at work and when I play. I believe the contributors to the ISG Forum have more interesting things to say about golf than Journalists, and Managers, pity you’re on here, F off and take your stupid attitude somewhere else, leave the people on here that have more than an ATTITUDE to contribute….

Cliff Manley you have got to be kidding me. That event has been promoted in local radio, the Gold Coast Bulletin every day of the event had an article, on this website on radio, on the PGA’s website and everywhere else. It was on both Gold Coast news and the NBN news on local television so I am not sure what more can be done for you. Where else would you like it to have been?

Here let me help you.

http://www.iseekgolf.com/news/7969-baker-finch-headlines-daikin-shootout

http://www.iseekgolf.com/news/7714-gold-coast-to-host-masters-invitational

http://www.iseekgolf.com/news/7996-australian-masters-invitational-arrives

http://www.pga.org.au/default.aspx?s=seniorsnewsdisplay&aid=127967

to name but a few

If you would get your nose out of the forums and read some golf news for a change instead of thinking you know it all then maybe you would learn a little about modern day golf instead of living in the past.

I’ll tell you what the problem is with Golf in this country, the fact that I work in a Golf shop on the Gold Coast within a ten minute drive of Emerald Lakes and I had NO idea this event was happening… maybe they didn’t really want people to attend and trample their fairways????

Thanks Bruce.

Interesting format. Sounds like they got a reasonable crowd. I would go and watch a similar event. Good idea to tie it into the Masters event.

Cheers

guys this is what happened on the night Nov 6th

Brian Jones wins Daikin Night Shootout

Local golfer Brian Jones outlasted a field of ten of Australia’s most successful golfers to win the inaugural Daikin Night Shootout at Emerald Lakes Golf Club on the Gold Coast and secure the $6,000 first prize.

On a warm and still evening, Jones won the event in extra time after both he and Graham Marsh tied the final hole of the evening. The pair returned to the final fairway from where Jones’ approach from the designated spot some 100 metres from the hole finished the closest and it was all over.

Ian Baker-Finch lasted to the penultimate hole before he was eliminated in a chip off for the right to advance to the final hole of the evening.

Earlier, Shani Waugh was eliminated at the first hole when she finished just through the green at the par four 10th at Emerald Lakes and eventually took double bogey. She was followed in turn by Mike Harwood, Ossie Moore, Terry Gale, Terry Price, Mike Ferguson, Rodger Davis and Ian Baker Finch before only Jones and Marsh remained to play the final hole.

A crowd of close to 1000 people followed the group with organisers delighted by the response to a new look Daikin Night Shootout played in conjunction this year with the Greater Building Society Australian Masters Invitational.

The event was played following the opening round of the Australian Masters Invitational where, after day one, New Zealander Stuart Reese has a three shot lead over Neil Wall, Terry Price, Greg Hohnen and Brisbane’s Alan Cooper.

I missed that article GoinPro. Did it say where they were playing?.

I know they play under lights at Emerald Lakes, but thought it was only the amateurs that did so. At least it is a bit cooler for playing in summer.

Cheers

Topic: 3 wood or Hybrid 1 Iron?

With 3Balls and co it’s cheap enough to collect a few different clubs to swap in and out of the bag. Rather than try and work out whether I wanted 16, 18 or 20 degree hydrids I bought all 3 in VGC from 3 Balls at just over $60 each plus $50 in freight. Expecting delivery Tuesday or Wednesday.

I’ll be seeing which of them works best in a set mix…I’m thinking 16 and 20, but it will be interesting to see what the distance gaps are and where they fit with my irons.

Do you want an excuse to spend the $$ or not to???

Some courses may favour a hybrid over a 3 wood…..those really tight short ones where there are only 4 or 5 holes where you can pull the driver out, the rest of the time you are looking for accuracy and the landing area.
Also depends on whether you hit irons better than woods….I have always hit irons better than woods. I have 3 hybrids on the way so I can see just what the bag needs. I will probably lean towards the hybrids over the 3 wood but then you may find that on some courses you don’t really need the big boomer and the 3 wood will give you all you need.

So spend the $$ and have the option depending on the course.

Craig

Well said Craig, I have a 1wood, a 3w, a 5w, a 1h DWS Cobra, etc…. then it depends on the course….

Topic: 3 wood or Hybrid 1 Iron?

I prefer woods over hybrids….I used to carry 2 hybrids…now I carry 1…

I have 13 deg 3 wood with reg lfex shaft in it….gos about 220 in still conditions…Iits easier to hit than 14 deg or 16 deg hybrid….stays low into headwinds also..it also acts a second driver if the driver is having a bad day (never the users fault I might add!!)

I have had it about 2 months..on wednesady I was hitting my 13 deg 3 wood further into the wind than my driver! and I use a 9.5 driver…the 13 deg 3 wood I can draw inot the wind…

I then carry a 5 wood (18 degree) that goes about 180-190…so easy to hit put any ol ugley swing on it and it goes straight!

I then carry a hybird 22 degree..for those 160 meter shots

with that set up i have the distance gaps about even between each club….

I carry the 3 wedges (52-56-60) plus my PW which is 46 degrees…..

Dont waste your money.
The hybrid you have is essentially a week 3 wood loft anyway.
If you are hitting it 210ms i doubt you will find a 3wood and hit it better or longer.

I have a set of Rac Lt 2’s in the garage, I just upgraded to the R7 tp with stiff shafts.

The Lt’s have reg steal shafts in them and are 3-PW, Im happy to get $250/300 for them.

Hey Strone

I’d be interested in a couple of weeks, if they are still available.
I have to get rid of my set first – the boss says I can get what ever I want, as long as it doesn’t cost anything…

I have a set of Cally 2004 BB irons, if anyones interested.

Hey Strone, have you found much difference between your R7 tp’s and LT2’s?
