No – actually I said he was a “Manly great” and yes I do think you are a biased Manly supporter.

Interesting to think that you believe he should stand among the likes of Churchill, Fulton, Gasnier and Raper et al then ?

No where near “legend” status but a Manly great – who’s achievements are a credit to him and the way he conducts himself

RMC is a very basic course and not as good as Murrimbidgee IMO.

Goullburn is the pick of the three.

NZ has not had a consistent “world class” golfer than Sir Bob Charles – hopefully Lee can go onto bigger and better things

Topic: Golf Talk / Murrumbidgee Country Club

There’s worse clubs going round than MCC – all things have to be taken into perspective as Aeonflux has referred to – Canberra has had a very severe drought.

If you go there with no false pretentions then you wont be dissappointed.

Northerner

I agree with what Andrew has said – it seems that the Clayton design group is able to appreciate the original design and make alterations that are in tune with it.

Other examples:
  1. Victoria
  2. Portsea
  3. Kingston Heath (incl. the spare P3)

I have not seen the “new” Royal Qld or his work on “The Lakes” but I hear the former is a significant improvement on the original

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf in the olympics - why not?

Why the heck isn’t golf in the Olympics?

Becau$e there are four events every year that would be much more important to a golfer than an Olympic medal.

Nothing tops an Olympic medal in skiing or athletics or swimming.

Every year, 4 events in Tennis top an Olympic tennis medal.
This is why tennis, like golf, should not be in the OLympics

but since tennis is in already
then golf should be in…

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it’s the right stick !
Good Golf is Fun plus the Great Outdoors…
In the Bag: Clubs and Balls. My Handicap is Bad Golf.

Even more reason why tennis should be out…..they both dont have a place at the Olympics.

Winning a Major v winning an Olympic gold in either sport – geez I know which one I’d rather have

Presume you’re travelling north from Sydney ?

If so – suggest a stop-off at Newcastle on the way up and possibly Foster (Tuncurry)

Port Macquarie is a great country track but there’s not much else of similar value in the area.

Topic: Your Favourite Golf Courses / Long Reef...your thoughts?

I just don’t like the layout – some of the holes you have to be a mountain climber to play. The many walk “back” to tee boxes 2nd…4th….7th etc..the parellel holes that go back and forth 14 – 16 for starters.

Your thoughts ?

Have you played the “Old” ?

The stretch of holes from the 4th to 7th are probably the best on the property. If it wasn’t next door to the “Old” the “New” it would be more revered.

As Andrews says – I suggest you try and get to play SF – the only Colt course I’m not overly keen on is Wentworth.

I’m not a big fan and wouldn’t rush back there – the course doesn’t flow well for mine – it’s all over the place.
