Topic: Golf Equipment / Lessons or Club Fitting - What do you think? Yeah, I had that same arguement with myslf. I opted to go with the lessons, and that was def the right way to go! Lessons changed my game totally. The better and more consistent i get, the more fun.. I will get clubs fit one day, for now though i’ll stick to the lessons.. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Really Bad Service On Sunday, My mate and I mad a trip of about 80klms each way to a golf course. There are about 3 courses on the way. I had rung in advance on the Friday to book in for the social round. I was told by the lady ” not to worry about booking, just turn up between 7:30 and 8 and you can play, no worries” I woke up at 5:30am, picked up my brother in-law and my friend, and we made the trip. Upon arrival we started unpacking our clubs and buggys, in the car park. As we did so, a guy (def not a gentleman) approached. He walked up and said ” Have you booked?” I replied “no, but i rang up and was told not to, it’ll be ok” He goes ” Well, you cant play, we got a comp” (there was two other cars in the carpark at this stage) So i said ” But the lady on the phone said we could turn up at this time and it would be fine” He responded ” I am the only person that works here” so I said ” well, I rang the M@$#%%a golf club, and a lady answered the phone” He replied, ” You can’t play” and started to walk away. I called out, ” We just drove from Cairns” He didnt even turn around or anything just left us in the car park. End Rant. We were very angry at the time, but realise we can’t do much about it. Just needed to get that off my chest, hope it made sense. Am i having a sook? I realise we cant interupt the comp, but a little nicer conversation would have been nice. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Irons For "Average Player" Well, i bought the Calla way big Bertha’s. Prob still too early to get a trustworthy report though. I played a quick nine holes on Sunday, as i was keen to try them out. First few holes probably a bit to keen, nervous and rushed to get any acceptable shots in. On the last four or five holes, i just relaxed, forgot about the clubs, and just hit the ball. The first thing i noticed was the noise, they don’t have a nice noise at all, however, since that has little to do with the actual games, it doesn’t phase me… so once i started to get a feel for them, they actually felt really good, I even hit the pin on a par 3 about 15 cm above the hole after the first bounce! That is the best tee shot on a par 3 I ever hit. I’ll need to play a few more games with them to settle in though…cant wait!!! |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Irons For "Average Player" Toolish: I would say thay should be about 1/2 to an inch longer. They were cheap clubs though, and i assumed extensions was expensive, prob not worth it on my cheaps? Bunny: Ok, I was definetly going tp be fitted if i bought clubs. Kar: Yeah, Specially since i’m a leftie.. Chris9485: At the moment my average would have to be in the high 90’s. I’m currently having lessons though, with any luck it should drop soon. So, maybe i should wait a bit… Pom: Yeah, actually, i just read some good articles about those irons too… Benk; I will def look into that! Thanks for comments. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Irons For "Average Player" Hi All. I been reading these forums a lot lately, just trying to pick up any tips and hints i can get. I Have been playing golf for five or six years on and off. Sometimes a game once every six months, sometimes every weekend. I have decided that i would like to take it a lot more seriously though. I’ve had myself my first official lesson recently, with more booked in. The pro has made major adjustments to my stance, yeilding some very good results already. The clubs i use now, I bought 5 years ago when i was 18. I have no problem with thier age, they are in good nick. However i have obviosly grown taller over time and now stand at 188cm tall. The pro suggested new clubs would help, but stopped short of telling me to by new ones. My current sticks are actully shorter than standard. My question is this: I have my eye on the Callaway Big Bertha Irons, because from what i have read, and i’m sure its just marketing, they have a lot of “Forgiveness” Is this what i should be looking for? I am also left handed. Basiclly, anyones suggestion on some of the best “average player” irons is what i’m after. Thanks for your help. |

Topic: Sports Talk / Motor Sports '08 Well, The v8’s are unexciting. Its just a two horse race. There really is only two cars in the race after all, thanks to all the control items they are forced to have. Bring back the glory days of many makes and models!! I would give anything to watch all the R32, R33 and R34 skylines, BMW’s and everyone else spank the aussie cars hard!! I bet that the winfield R32 GTR’s would still spank the cars of today. Imagine how a R34 Skyline tuned by the right people, would spank a falcooon and a crapadore. My 2 cents. And yeah… I have owned a skyline… |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf gloves Yeah, I was holding the club too high… all fixed now, but the Callaway is very soft, lots of feel. I spoke to a golf shop salesman and about this, and from his entire range (all the well known brands) he told me the Mizuno is the best if your chasing a longer lasting glove. I’ll prob try one of them next. I also have a footjoy, def not as soft as the callaway, but it has lasted a while now, prob about 7 or 8 rounds. |

Topic: Golf Talk / Golf gloves I bought a Callaway Tour series glove. It lasted one small bucket of balls on the range and only 9 holes on the course. :( The glove tore on the palm. I have slightly moved my grip down a little, since than.. I sent the shop i bought it from an email and was promptly sent a new one to replace. I’ll see how this new one goes |

Topic: Golf Talk / Damaged Driver. II have been reading the forim for a few weeks now and have a question. Through lack of skill, i have managed to put 2 little dents in the bottom of my driver. Does this affect the club at all? Also I am fairly tall, 188 cm, and had a feeling the clubs i have are a little short. I compared them in length to some clubs at my local range and found they are actully shorter than standard. I have booked my self in for some lessons, should i use my clubs or use the hire ones at the range for now? Thanks. David. |
