Just got my h’cap back after many years of not playing – uni and work got in the way. Now I am back in the sticks, golf is much more affordable.

and i just checked golflink CCR was 1 under the par rating so i’m off 13.1.. nearly there !!!

goal for end 2008 – 14

Have had a couple of weeks off and won the comp yesterday (Par) with a +4 in windy conditions. Handicap down 1.6 as a result so now sitting on 21.2

27 Putts helped as well !

Back out on the weekend after a week off. Played to the new handicap which was good – off the tips as well as penants were on in the afternoon.

30 putts today which i was still pretty happy with, drained a few monsters and the greens were very fast.

Wasted a lot of shots chipping as the distance control was pretty ordinary given the fast greens and tight pin positions.. if i got up and down everytime would have shot mid 70’s!

Started the year at 24,
Went down to 23 after first comp,
Played again 2 weeks ago and wend down to 21
Played this weekend and won the par event with +3 (glad you wern’t playing in my comp grantgolf)
Now down to 20
1 more and I have reached my goal for 2008 so may need to alter the goal slightly as I still feel that there are a few strokes left on the course each week.

had a decent round today +4 in a par event so down to 12.5 or 12.8 depending on todays CCR.. so one more game of decent golf and i will hit my goal that i set at the start of the year to be off 12 by end off june.. now the eye is on <10 new by year>

Once you get to 12 why stop, if you can achieve 12, I’m sure you can achieve 8

Haven’t been playing much at all lately.
Played my first game for over a month on Saturday and managed to drop the handicap from 23 to 21. My aim is to get into the teens by years end so on track at this stage.

Pity it was not a stableford event, then he would have had a miss and still broke his handicap by 6 or 7. Or do you guys over there only play stroke events.

I was talking to a member recently and he told me about a guy who 9 putted the last so he wouldn’t get cut.

I think the best attitude is just play the best you can on any given day and don’t worry about the handicap. It will sort itself out. If your playing well it will drop and if not then it will go out.

I was club handicapper for many years and it always amazed me how many golfers would get a shot back and then lose 2 or 3 within a couple of games. Just a mental thing where they feel easier being off say 12 rather than 11. Have a good round and bingo , their on 10.

I can recall pulling up once, many years ago. It was the thursday before a major event and I was cruising along to a score that would have been maybe 41 or 42 pts. I wiped the last couple and and had 38. I won nothing that day and then played like a goose on the weekend. i learnt my lesson right there.

You might get hit by a bus tomorrow, treat todays round like it might be your last and go out on a high!!

grantgolf, To me the object of the game is to get as low a handicap that your potential allows, and be able to play to it. For some reason when doing that, the handicap keeps going down, even though you think it will never happen.

Agreed. Play every shot to the best of your ability and even if its a bad shot, its better then missing on purpose.. which is just not Cricket! Or golf for that matter!

hmm.. i’ve been told to hold back ( posting great scores in comps) so i can play some b grade sheild later in the year.( my plan was to get to 12h/c by end of june). this is my first experinece in golf politics ..

Bump time.

After quite a few poor rounds, played better yesterday and am now on 9.7. Wasted 6 shots on holes 10 to 14 but hit the ball better overall.

Well done Shortstuff. I am still playing off 17, but have gene from 16.8 to 17.4. Was playing absolute rubbish golf but things have turned around and I am hitting the ball ever so sweetly. In a fortnight I can get out and play some comp golf and hopefully watch the strokes melt away

Start playing comp again, hit 49 points then a 81. Bingo 12hc. When the club captain taps you on the shoulder, and take you up for a chat with the h/cer. Then they drop you. Thats it.

So they don’t use GolfLink to calculate the handicaps? I had 47 points in Jan and only came down 2.1 strokes.

Nup. anzac day. I gave up.

10-15 min wait on each hole. I just got sick of waiting. The group I was in took over six hours to go round.
I like golf but waiting that long on each tee was too much, thats why I still had the card in my bag

1 over after 5 is good for me. Ended at the 19th. cheers

Had not played comp for six months, and only been at the club for 3 months before then. Hit poor in the couple of comps I played in, ended up with a hc of 24.

I’m a pretty relaxed guy, I enjoy playing golf, but have been hammer a lot for been a pretty avg golfer, i’m just enjoying rubbing a couple of peoples nosses in it thats all.
