They did that a few years ago didn’t they?
or did they redo the test?

Topic: The Lounge / Carbon Trading

You guys that think getting discounts or checks to help reduce the cost of being “green,” why do you like it so much? If it is really a concern of yours, shouldn’t you, and many others be doing it for the good of the environment and not for the rebates and discounts? People talk about the cost now, but if the free market works (and I believe it does), the cost would come down as they become more popular, technology improves, and production is increased.

“A star that shines twice as bright burns twice as fast.” – In memory of Greg Moore

Racinfarmer will be signing autographs at the mall from 3 to 5.

you may be right in the long run but most projects need help to get off the ground and stay afloat during the bad times.
you claim that free market should be the only way, if the US government was not bailing out US car companies and bending the insolvent trading rules they would be long gone, If Hummer was not backed by the US military it would not have gotten off the ground.
same goes with the car companies here in Australia, no government support means the cars get made overseas or not at all.
a huge amount of the development budget for every car that is designed in Australia is funded by the taxpayer. if equal funding was provided to develop green cars rather than yet another commodore we might have a solution.
same goes with coal and nuclear, they get a large part of the so called green energy budget even though the government claims we will not have a nuclear industry and coal may never be clean.
the government have also announced that those companies that are the worst greenhouse gas emitters will get their carbon credits for free, so the companies can charge us for carbon pollution that they have not even paid for.
I would be for free trade if it existed and if it worked. people who believe that there is any instance of it in the world that has been proven to work for more than a couple of months are kidding themselves

I’m storming up the leaderboard!!

clear last after rd 1 I’ve had another good rd of 78 last night. At +50 i should be in the money going into the last rd. my calculations have the leaders on about +30.

If only I had been brave enough to pick G.Norman rather than S.Strange as my last minute random aussie!!!

Such is Life

half the people tipping probably feel the same way

looks like your comments about Camilo made him pull his head out of his ass and prove you wrong he is now having the round of the day at -5

maybe he was just letting Pampling take all his strokes +5 so far i think he is a lost cause for this cut

you might look at Gisbourne you just head out the Calder for about 40 minutes, probably take you as long to get through the city on a football day, or Royal Park would be pretty close to you in Kensington if you want a local they have changed it since I last lived in Melbourne so I don’t know what it is like these days

Many people want to use green power. As long as it,s production does not interfere with thier lives or thier views. BTW love the avatar Sonab.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

No one who ever had a lesson would have a swing like mine

Lee Trevino

He has always loved a good tug of war, when he was 8 months old he brought his own bag of 6 lamb chops to an Australia day BBQ, they would have weighed almost as much as he did at the time but he managed to get them over the fence, funniest thing was hearing the neighbors wondering what happened to them.

you are wrong about Europe, there are already people taking advantage of the carbon trading system, setting up solar farms reusing pig shit and such
cars are not included in their carbon trading system they are using emission standards instead.
here in Victoria we could have had a lot more wind generation of electricity but people don’t want the windmills in their back yard, good luck trying to convince people that a tidal generator or wind farm should be sited anywhere on the coast.

Sonab: We already have disincentives to travel or indeed purchase anything in this country, its called Fuel Tax and GST. Just look at how much diesel fuel is vs petrol to see how much a tax system can get screwed with for income.

If the govt is really into reducing the carbon footprint then it needs to divert much more of the current fuel and GST intake to make the structural changes.

A Nationalised energy scheme? Hardly, when everything is either already privatised or in the process of being so. Changing the ground rules on those who own the energy sector means careful restructuring help to do so vs ‘fining’ them for being what they have always been would make more sense.

Otherwise we look like making ourselves even less competitive in a global market.

we are taxed yes I don’t dispute that
fuel taxes are supposedly to pay for roads.. at least that is one excuse.
the point you have missed here is that taxes other than the fuel excise currently do not give a direct incentive to reduce greenhouse gas

I agree that there could be a lot more done by the government but when it comes down to it I doubt that is going to happen, this government is about as useless as the last when it comes to the environment, big business is where the cash and votes are in their eyes, better to just live it up and deal with the environmental problems if they eventuate…. even Cat Stevens ended up getting bored of being a hippy

Davego that is fine if you are incapable of drawing that inference from your own argument I can see where you are having trouble.

while there are no incentives to develop a reduced carbon method of transport there will be no alternative. industry always follows the path of least cost, raise the cost of carbon and industry will find alternatives.

waiting for business to develop an alternative before the need is expressed in monetary terms is like waiting for a dog to get you a beer, unless you put in some other effort it is unlikely to happen

Personally i don’t mind the idea of a user pays system to track the addition of carbon to the atmosphere. at least then I would be able to choose to be green if I wished to.
The only way it would work tho is if all countries are involved, otherwise you would just get industry moving to where the law offers least resistance. if that does not work would some new tariff system be set up based on carbon?
Davego your argument about 1 bus being more polluting than 30 cars is the most ridiculous piece of illogic I have seen in a long time even “Today Tonight” would not try running with that one.
The government will probably reduce the excise on petrol or compensate in another way to save our precious 10 cents a liter so the changes you will be affected by are an increase in electricity costs.

it is silly to be so attached to a cap and trade model rather than a straight tax politicians are kidding themselves if they think anyone is going to be fooled into thinking it is not a tax, they should instead just make sure anything that is gained from it is returned to us not spent badly.

Topic: Golf Talk / trouble slowing my swing down.

assuming we are talking swing rather than hit.
I don’t know why swinging slow would necessarily correct any problems.
I would think more about making a smooth swing, apply the acceleration gradually so you can feel the lag rather than jabbing at it.

Hmm intersting post. I have Mizuno MP 32 blades. I would say they are comparable to a Mitsubishi Evo. Not super expensive, great performance, narrow sweet spot (lots of turbo boost) and beautiful aggressive styling.

Single figures are almost here! Only one more stroke!

http://www.golflink.com.au/...

does that mean that they have to go back to the workshop for a full rebuild every 20 rounds

my driver would be a Lada Niva, cheep ugly no one’s ever heard of it and no one would want it but gets the job done sometimes

Irons would have to be alfa rarely working well for me but when they are, love em.

putter would be a corolla cheep and common but reliable

I think it was just a matter of time before this would be raised,
If E Bay was allowing the sale of fake or stolen merchandise and not taking reasonable steps to stop it, then being on the internet should not be any protection from prosecution.

Jeffrey,
Has there ever been a media outlet as far-right as the FoxNews channel?

Nope, but we got plenty of them far to the left in the USA.

The funny thing is a democratic presidential contendor (Hillary Clinton) proclaimed Fox News to be the least unbias news channel.

how much do they go for new? i would class them as a 6 or maybe 7 not an 8.5 given the wear on the sole and the look of the grips
