I found the cure for flies on Sat. Torrential rain and howling winds – at the same time. Not a fly in sight all morning!

Saturday, Melbourne. Weather forecast – Rain. Started with showers just after 6am. Arrived at the course just before 7am, showers getting heavier. Captain and 1 other person waiting for anyone else to turn up. 7.30am started raining. We were all fascinated by this stuff called rain! 1 other person turns up. We all go inside and have a coffee and wait. 9am break in the weather. Start playing. 1st tee – drizzle, 2nd tee – showers, 3rd tee – where’s the fairway gone in the rain? and by the time we reached the 3rd green the water was dripping off my hat and distracting me from putting! We stopped after that.

So…Results

1st hole – 2pts
2nd hole – 1pt
3rd hole – 3pts

Can I average that to 2pts per hole and say 36pts no wipes? Didn’t think so. I’ll have to find someone to play with on Friday – if it’s not raining, again.

Cheetah, no need to over exert that grey matter of yours.

Just look to try and give yourself a put for 3 points on every hole which will virtually guarantee you a 2 pointer.

By the end of the round you’ll be suprised just how you score. I would reckon a sub-100 round with a 40 pointer to submit to Soulz. :)

Thanks 12shoc and NeverEagle, good tips. I’ve got a credit card sized, laminated score card that I’ve attached to my buggy handle with my handicap score for each hole so I know where I should be. It works well for stableford, but for stroke and par I just don’t have the stuff between the ears yet. I’ll work on it over the Christmas break.

It would be nice to do in the last comp round for the year and it would make a lovely birthday present to boot.

While there are a few naturists here, anyone know a good natural suncream that’s not greasy as hell?

And also any sunscreen that works. I’ve tried a few different types now and they’re not only greasy but I end up quite crispy by the end of a round and that includes reapplying it about half way around.

Lucky I didn’t nominate last Sat. Played Par (I hate PAR!) Only had one + for the entire round and finished up with -10 – yuk! Shot a pathetic 118 or so, even for a beginner that’s woeful. Anyway, glad to get the bad one out the way so I can finish the comp year on a high (hopefully).

I’ve just heard that we break up for the year on 3rd Dec and so won’t get to play any stableford comp rounds for Dec at all. Can I be trusted to just play (if I can find someone to play with) and translate the scores after??? I was hoping for at least one round of comp, but they all want to get sloshed well before Christmas. Might improve the game!

I’ve been using the same tee for a year now. It’s a plastic one with a softer plastic cup on the top that doesn’t damage clubs too. Part of an AFL pack with balls, towel, divot repairer and tees. Best purchase I’ve made so far. Only problem is it’s the same colour as the grass so I’ve nearly lost it several times.

Sounds like a system that would benefit burglars and punish genuine high handicappers.
Stab seems to be a system that allows your average joe to go out and come in with a score that resembles a good golfers. At least makes me feel better about myself.

So that’s how I’ve managed to win 4 out of the last 13 rounds I’ve played. And I thought I was getting better, damn.

Results for Round 1 in Nov:

Front 9 – 22 points (1 wipe)
Including 3 holes x 4 points

Back 9 – 17 points (1 wipe)
Including 2 holes x 3 points

TOTAL 39 points – not bad for a pretty ordinary day out for the second week in a row. Didn’t win this time though, only came second! Winner had 44 points and a brilliant round.

HCP still 33 even though my coach says it should be around 21. Yeah, Right!

I just think wipes should not be allowed. Points should just be deducted. The idea of the game is to get it in the hole isn’t it?
