Topic: Golf Talk / Slow Play

This is my pet hate in golf. It get up my nose so much i’d rather be at work.

Played Keppera two weeks ago, and on the back 9 a group with 1 reasonable player and three beginners junped in front of us. Now everybody starts somewhere, but every hole they would leave there buggies 30 meters in front of the green then walk back after putting, then sit down and fill out their scores before moving out of the way.

The round from hell was a couple of years ago at McLeod when I followed the “Senior Ladys” midweek comp. 5 1/2 hours to play 12 holes was too much for me, and when I was leaving the young guy in the pro shop ask if i’d had a good day. I doubt if he’ll ask that again after the mouthfull he copped.

dfo at the airport or jindalee?

Golf is a good walk ruined!

Airport. Brisbane needs more golf courses, especially the southside but anywhere will help.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Lost Club - Not handed In

Any bum that keeps stuff they pick up on the course isn’t honest enough to play golf. I couldn’t imagine them calling a penalty on then selfs.

My mates and I have found lots of good stuff from club covers, to a remote for an electric buggy and even a very expensive putter, and never once considered keeping anything.

BattaBattaBing – can’t help with a 7 iron, but I have a T-Zoid Driver that’s surplus to requirements.

Count me in. I usually in about a half dozen every season on OzTips, the more the better.

There are only two seasons a year:
“Footy season”, and “Waiting for footy season” :)

Topic: Golf Talk / Markers should be poles not discs

Try playing with no distance markers at all, on a course that is not your home course. Its bloody hard ! You get so used to your home course – you know what to hit from where. You pull the same club on the same par 3 each time.

Try a round where you eyeball every shot. Give it a go.

Couldn’t agree more. As a member of a social golf club that plays 15 different courses a year, the markers give me a guide and they do help make quicker decisions and that keeps play moving.

A small shrub on both side at 150 is sufficient, and blend in to the natural vista.Sprinkler heads are over kill and can actually be misleading when the ground staff aren’t careful to get them in the right place. I know a fairway that has a sprinkler head marked 95m and another thirty paces closer to the green is another with 90m on it. So, since seeing that I just don’t trust them.

Nakashima

I have to agree. I love their stuff, and throw in an Odyssey #5 center shaft putter and a box of Nike Power Soft balls.

nike power soft balls?? haha
are you serious

Absolutely serious. They suit me just fine. The distance and feel is good, and that’s what matters to me. I don’t feel compelled to join a herd just because everybody uses brand X.

That experience and confidence thing is spot on SOCKS.

Topic: Golf Talk / Sunshine Coast over Christmas ?

That’s quite a spread of courses! Hope you like a drive its 150 km from Caloundra to Tin Can Bay.
I havn’t played all these courses but of the ones I know, i’d think you will need a booking at Twin Waters, and Tewantin-Noosa and possibly Caloundra. If you’re like me and prefer the natural bush course over the manufactured resort course, then you’ll love Mt Coolum and won’t have any problem getting on. I’d consider Horton Park as well.

I’ve been checking out the clubs from Brisbane to the Coast, and find Windaroo Lakes hard to beat. The course is a good challenge and in very good condition, and that was before the rain. Membership fees are good too.

I have had Gerry Hogan (www.hogangolf.com/) recommended by some very handy golfers, who contribute their improvement to his video. Can’t actually say i’ve used it myself, but it’s definitely on my To Do list.

Peter

If your into artificial stimuli you should try "Blackmores - Executive B stress formula". They really help you chill, and not let one bad hole (or shot) ruin your round. Before I got onto these babies, a double bogey would be the beginning of the end for that day.

and the bonus is ... when you pee it's and interesting colour mellow.gif

The jolly fat fellow has done his chimney drop for this year, and all good (and bad) golfers should have new toys to hit the fairways.

I got a new Bagboy 05 buggy, three polo shirts and a pitch repair tool thingy. So lets hear what everybody got from santa.

Seriously guys, you lot need therapy. Your not superstitious more like Excessive Compolsives biggrin.gif

For a few years I had my "lucky" golf undies, which were the only ones that got a run on game days. Since the arse fell out of them it never made a once of difference to my game.

Anyhow, if it makes you feel better, and nobodys getting hurt goodluck.

I plan to start a medical program to reduce the risk of breast cancer to women aged between 20-30 years old. This service will be provided for free. The touring van will visit all suburbs to provide equal opportunity to women of all backgrounds.

A bit selective there ?

Topic: Sports Talk / twenty 20 cricket

IMO it's weighted too much in favour of the batsman. Since they're trying to turn it into baseball - a 6 should ONLY be a ball hit over the fence, not over a rope 20 + mts in from the boundry.

Then they could give the fielders a big leather mitt, so they don't drop so many catches rolleyes.gif

Then again, maybe we could just go to the baseball, most people are surprised at talent going around.

Topic: Golf Talk / Your Longest Round On An Australian Golf Course

During the school holidays in September, I took my daughter and niece out in a buggy for a social round at a course in western burbs of Brisbane. The trainee pro said it was clear for social play, but he didn't tell me I would be following the Senior Ladies comp sad.gif

I had the first all to myself. When we got to the second there were two groups waiting to tee off and a group about to putt on the second green. mad.gif

After 5 hours i had played twelve (very frustrating) holes. That was all I could handle. So I pulled the pin vowing to never play there again.
Doubt if we would have finished before dark even if I could stand following the old girls for another 6 holes.

Topic: Golf Talk / The Official Hole-In-One Register: Aussie Edition

QUOTE: michswiss @ Nov 17 2005, 07:41 AM

I saw the article yesterday, but sadly I haven't had the needed events happen yet.  sad.gif
I definitely fall on 'it only counts if it happens in a comp' side.  Think about it.  Any athlete that competes in an individual sport will practice and/or engage in social activities around their chosen sport. They very well might run a fast time, throw the javelin farther, clear the higher measure or be more accurate or precise.  Even to the extent of breaking through world or personal bests.  But it isn't certified or validated in line with accepted bylaws of the governing associations.

It doesn't mean that you haven't had 4 holes-in-one (and you should be, rightly, proud of them all!).  It simply means that you've only had 3 in publicly recognised events.

Now as to why the site only wants stories of Aces from comps?  I'd imagine they are trying to keep away from the apocryphal tall tale.  Not that anyone on ISG would ever spin one of those  biggrin.gif

Very well answered michswiss, if you hit an ace and a witness can confirm it - tell the world, I will IF i'm ever good/lucky enough to bag one wink.gif
