Topic: Golf Equipment / Advice on set make up

We have a couple of long par 4’s but the 3’s are average. Driver accuracy is probably 60-70%. I probably should have said that I have only had these clubs for 4 mths. I initially didn’t get the 3 wood because I rarely used my old one, only when confidence was down with the driver. I hit my old driver 190-200, 3 wood 180-190 and 5 wood 170-180. So really not sure if it’s worth the money for a 3w to slot in around 190-210?

Are you comfotable hitting the 5 off the deck?

Dan

Hi Dan
5W is my favourite at the moment, average about 190 off the deck with the odd crack around 200.

Thanks for all the input everyone, decided to go with the GW picked up an R7 to match the set from Edwin Watts for US$49 plus postage. Drummonds and Golfworld told me I wouldn’t be able to get one and if I did it would be a fake.

Mr C. went to the range today to practice that full swing with the lobby, skulled the first couple until I worked out the best ball placement, then started hitting em sweet.

‘Of course it could just be individual differences, but at a full swing I would want more than 20m off a LW (as you can simply pitch it that far’

I don’t really give the 60 a full swing ‘cause I’m too inconsistent with it. I use it for little flop shots around the green (hence the 20m). Maybe I should pracice with it a bit more!
The TM website says PW 44
and SW 54, my LW has 60 marked on it.
The R7 GW is 49*.

Puttings not bad, ave. about 30, use an old Greg Norman signature. My biggest problem is accuracy from 130-180, very rarely hit the green, I suppose that’s why the short game isn’t too bad, I get plenty of practice.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Advice on set make up

Hi All
I’m after some advice on completing my set. I play off 19 and this is what I using:
R7 draw driver – 200-220m
R7 5 wood – 180-200m
Burner 3 Hybrid -180m
R7 draw irons 4 – 165m
5 – 155m
6 – 145m
7 – 135m
8 – 125m
9 – 110m
PW – 95m
SW – 50m
Precept 60* LW – 20m
My short game isn’t too bad (inside 50m). I wondering if I’m better off getting a 3 wood or another wedge to go between the PW and SW.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Topic: Golf Talk / my golf trip (err I mean family holiday trip to Victoria)

The first at growling frog is a beauty and 18 is also great….great bunkering agree..makes it tough if the wind is up. Basically the wasnt a hole I didnt like

Werribee was the worst course I played…its in poor nick..no rain makes it hard though so its not thier fault

The frog was an awesome track…funny how its in the middle of nowhere

Sunshine was good too, needs some work but will be a great course in a short time

At home I enjoy Capel, secret harbour mandurah GC and Collie

Hi Dave
Just came across your review of Sunshine. I call it home and are glad you enjoyed it. It was a long but worthwhile wait for it and for $900/year for 7 days it’s great value. Still to play to my hcp though, very tough from the back when the winds up.

Topic: Golf Equipment / lookin 4 new draw driver

finally got round to tryin a couple of drivers wanted to try more but run out of time. Havent made final pick yet, Took my current driver with me and used launch monitor (wouldnt mind one in shed) was hittin all over place best straightest about 190 mtrs .The best ive tried out so far was TM r7 draw managed about 70% of shots within 15 mtrs either side of centre thats awsome for me and averaged 225-230mtrs that put a smile on the dial hey Doogs, what shaft did u opt for rather than standard. According to monitor my club head speed ave is about 93 mph how much diff does this make Cheers Daggs

Hi daggs
Just from my experience it doesn’t sound like you need to change the shaft if you’re happy with the distance. I was hitting my old wilson driver 190-210 with a slice. When I got the R7 it straightened me up but I lost heaps of distance, I was ballooning it. I got tested on a monitor ( I got the R7 on ebay) and it showed I was putting heaps of backspin on the ball and the guy said it was probably the soft tip in the shaft. I tried a superquad (setup for a draw) which had the re-ax 65 mid tip and cut my backspin rate in half. I was able to get one of these second hand and now I’m hitting it around 215-225. Just this hackers opinion.

Started 06 with 25 with a goal of breaking 20 by years end. Got there on 02/01/07. Finished 07 on 18.2, pretty flat year, playing just about every week. New clubs for Xmas and a recently opened new course, aiming for ‘A’ grade by years end

If you want a bargain, the R7 draws are going really cheap to make way for the Burner. I got one in Dec straightened me up heaps. I had to change the shaft though ‘cause the standard soft tip shaft lost me some distance. Very rarely hit a slice now and have added about 15 metres.

How’s this for a choke on Monday;
17 pts after 6 holes, then just 5 pts for the next 6 to finish with 34 pts. The winner had 41.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / The Biggest Cut

I know what went wrong first round:
8 bunkers = 15 shots to get out including an airy (how embarassing)!!!
We have a new course and still getting the hang of the different bunkers. I know “don’t go in and you don’t have to worry about getting out”

Topic: Golf Equipment / Burner xd??

Just another question for you iseekgolfers,
Does anyone use the r7 draw irons, and do they actually draw much, or are they just named so to make slicers buy them??
Thanks
Patrick.

I just bought a set and I’m still getting the hang of them. They have straightened me up, but I seem to to have lost some distance. The hardest thing is getting used to aiming straight instead of allowing for the slice.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Changing driver shaft

Hi All

Had the first hit with the new shaft yesterday, jury’s still out. I seemed to get a bit more distance, but it seems accuracy has been compromised. It’s a bit hard to tell after just one round but my slice, which all but disappeared with the soft tip shaft, has returned. I’ll give it a couple of rounds before I decide whether to put the soft tip back in or not. I’m also going for a lesson this week so maybe that’ll help.

Topic: Ask Golf Guru - Golf Instruction / Squaring up the club face

I’m looking for advice on working on getting the driver face square at impact. I’ve been told by a few that my swing is pretty good and I understand the basic mechanics of a good swing. ie. I know what I’m supposed to be doing but just can’t get it right. When I do concentrate on getting my hands back square, I tend to snap hook it. Any suggestions on drills to help fix this.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Changing driver shaft

I’ve found a regular reax 65 with a mid flex point that was taken from a TM superquad. The guy’s gunna put in mine for $80 and if I don’t like it he’s willing to put the original one back and refund my money. Nothin to lose there. Thanks for all you input fellas, I’ll let you know how it goes if you interested. He’s gunna do it tomorrow and I’m playing on Sunday.
