Topic: Golf Equipment / 65 deg Wedge

i play with a 56 sw
and given up the 60 for chipping in my backyard..for now

if I open up the 56 I can do a 58/60 lobe
so no need a 60

Topic: Golf Equipment / what's the best 3 wood for a high handicapper

Why not go with one of the higher lofted drivers they are making these days. They should be easier to hit off the tee than a 3 wood with more margin for error. Off the fairway you’d be better off with a 16 hybrid. They make drivers up to 16 as well btw.

This is a great suggestion….

I would try carrying 2 drivers, a less lofted full length one for when you are hitting it well and maybe a 13-15 degree driver with the shaft 1 or 2” shorter to replace a 3 wood… the huge sweet spot and higher loft would be way easier to control when you’re not hitting it so well.

In combination with a 18-22 degree rescue for those long shots from the fairway or when you want a shorter tee shot, you will not be missing out at all.

the 2 driver method is a good way to play

i think that 10cc includes the hosel (if there’s one) and allows for heat expansion !

the other thing that has gotten my curiosity
is why did the ruling body settled on a figure like 460cc …
and not on a Whole number like 500cc !

rollback to 400cc,

the cat is already outta bag
not a chance i would think

size would either remain (for now) or get bigger…. that’s natural evolution

of course it doesnt mean i endorse this trend
i am just curios of the trend….

Topic: Golf Equipment / Callaway introduces FT-iQ smart driver

when companies start using the word SMART in their blurb I switch off..unless it can make my coffee and toast the way I like it then it aint smart and I doubt a driver can do that
I dont liuke the drection callaway is taking I did like the FT3 this was my forst driver after ten years out of golf…..the ft5 was ok but dont like where they are headed at all

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

the OEMs are all trying to eat up one another in this high rolling high stakes marketing, advertising and sales game

n they will use any advantage they can muster

to be fair each has its own fancy terminology.

Topic: Golf Equipment / Driver Swing Weight

i think it’s not neccessary
but this specific one appears to be so…maybe becos of increased ‘feel’....of the head

i found D0 to 2 drivers harder to hit …again looks like a feel factor there

D3 upwards & the head feels like it’s there…at the end of the stick !

Topic: Golf Talk / Don't get all smug just be because he missed the cut!

I only followed him for a few holes yesterday but the huge crowd that were following him were definately supporting him and he was very respectful to the applause he received. (As all pros should be). The add they were running for the Masters on the radio where they talk about golf is one of few sporting events where you can get right up close to an elite sportsmen was right on the mark. I was right behind John when he hit his second into the 6th and could have poked him with my umbrella on his backswing if I wanted to. Its a shame he missed the cut, but he was definately woth the appearance money in my book.

Try Woorayl Golf Club – Leongatha, Victoria, Australia.
You won’t be dissapointed.

now that u mentioned,
tot i saw you on tv :)

Topic: Golf Equipment / new driver suggestions..

if you read theu the common sense advice woud be to demo as many versions as possible

like at a demo day

and many would say get fitted for one would be ideal

others say make ebay your friend ….

for me i had an older cally way driver before
so i kinda ‘trusted’ this brand
and also so far stock shafts i have no problems playing with – maybe there’s why my hcp hasnt dropped much :(

i did go to a retail shop to demo a few model
and found the x460 the best fit for performance and price at that time 18 months ago

Id also bought drivers over ebay (eg the Macgregor NVG2 Draw – the best value driver for me so far, adams bul5000)
and so far no major problems

i think my swing characteristics are pretty ‘stock’ with a regular flex

heaps on the market

depending on many factors eg budget, your inclination to a ‘brand’, your swing characteristics

i am sure there are many here who can recommend

i tend to favour callaway becoes i use one (the X460) and thinks it’s great

others rave about the taylor made eg burner series

etc

Topic: Golf Equipment / driver shaft help

may I suggest a good pro and launch monitor and demo a few different shafts…but going on what you said maybe also get a reg but heavier stiffer tipped reg

its really strange but I have always like the stiock shafts I hhave had in my last 3 drivers…

I like the sumos dimana shaft
I liked the fujikara shafts in the two burners I have had (07 and 09)

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

which sumo did you use ? the non square one ?

Topic: Golf Equipment / Driver Swing Weight

What’s the swing weight of your Current driver (plus the other specs)

Mine is a x460
SW 6.2
added some lead weights

(stock was SW 2.5 to 3)

Feels noticeably heavier
but seems to keep the ball on line
distance no loss
maybe a tad longer by 5-6m
eveything else is stock at 45”
