Topic: Golf Equipment / Anyone using the new Cobra LD Speed range? I use a 2007 Cobra LD F Speed with the stock standard Aldila NV stiff shaft in it. Whilst the ‘08 models have a slightly less muted sound , I still prefer the obnoxious noise mine makes. As AB suggested about being “Loud and Proud” , there is something about hitting the big stick , producing an ear tingling “GONG” and watching the ball pierce through the air to the fairway. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the sound from the LD drivers is mishits tend to have even more terrifying sound effects which I find to be great feedback. Only thing I wish to change with my ‘07 stick is the stock shaft (Aldila NV). Cobra seems to have got it right with using the Graphite Design YS as the stock shaft in the ‘08 models. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Which putter?? I recently decided to upgrade my putter , even though my old faithful cheapo brosnan was still getting the job done more often then not. I got approval from the chief financial officer of the household for $250-$300 I went around and tried putters every day for a month and found the following putters (mallets are my pref) on my list : Odyssey 2 Ball SRT Odyssey Sabretooth Taylormade Spider Rife Two Bar Mallet Scotty Cameron Newport Detour 2.5 – ( Whilst not really a mallet, I really wanted this thing bad! but the prices where just out of my range at the time) All the Mallets felt very stable and were really hard to pick over each other. The Rife had a fantastic feel (and the cheapest on my list) but i ended up going for the Sabretooth for $230 as I preferred the alignment and its a nifty looking bit of kit. I’ll agree with Baz that picking the right putter is always a tough job , because it is very personal to your preferences. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Golf Swing Mirrors Thanks Kiwi, I was looking down that track originally, then noticed in my last lesson how quick and easy it was for the pro to readjust the portable (round type) mirror around he has. A wardrobe type mirror would hardly be difficult for me to move around but I still am striving for something smaller and quicker to setup. I usually have a few mates come around and use my facilities weekly (good thing for me the entry fee is charged in golden ales) to tape, review and compare swings which really helps and the right mirrors will hopefully top it all off. I’ll keep searching but I think if all else fails the wardrobe type mirror setup will get the nod. |

Topic: Golf Equipment / Golf Swing Mirrors Hi guys , I’m currently going through a few changes in my swing after some help from my local pro , and found the use of mirrors in my lessons of great help to adjust my setup , posture etc. I currently have a bit of a golfing backyard setup up home with 2 x cage nets , chipping baskets, floodlighting, camera etc and am looking at purchasing a mirror or two to help with my practice sessions. The issue I have is finding a decent size mirror to suit my needs. I’ve seen the Izzo mirrors around a few sites and whilst they would do the job they look quite small from what I can make out. I could just go out and make my own free standing setup with the right mirrors but something ultra portable off the shelf would be much easier. If all else fails I’ll ask my pro where he gets his from next time I see him. Any suggestions on good sites or shops that sell a decent golf swing mirror would be greatly appreciated |

Topic: Golf Equipment / TaylorMade Spider Putter I have played around a few times with a TaylorMade spider and every time I walk away quite impressed. Beautiful true roll off the insert and with such a big mass behind the face I found it very hard to not produce decent putts. (on practice greens at least) At first glance I was skeptical at the alignment aid , but once I square it up it seemed to just make sense for me with the combination of straight and rounded lines. I’m currently stuck atm between the Spider and oddly enough the Scotty Cameron Newport Detour both of which (for me) feel extremely good from top to bottom which you would expect from the associated price tags.. Definitely try one out and see how it fits with your own stroke , and like simonsez said they have a bit of a buzz atm and hopefully once that wears out the price might come down a tad.. |
