Topic: Holden Scramble Always a bit of good fun . I object to the fact that Holden seem to put very little into the comp at club level. & if you move on to the better rounds it becomes quite expensive to travel again with no help from the sponsors. At leasr the present format is better than the old format of 4 man team where cheating seemed to be the only way to progress. |

Topic: Holden Scramble The new format is great, sorts out the cheats a fair bit and you get to meet other golfers as well. We played Eagle Ridge and Moonah Links last year. Well worth the effort. |

Topic: Holden Scramble I think it will be easy enough once you get used to it, but it does get rid of the low marker scoring the points while having high markers there just for the handicap. This way everyone really does have to put in an effort. |

Topic: Holden Scramble Taken from the PGA website: Holden Scramble Format The Holden Scramble will be played as a three person teams ambrose event, the 2008 Holden Scramble will be played under a new elimination style format as outlined below: • All team members tee off each hole • For example: All other rules, including the three tee shot rule, will remain unchanged for this year. |

Played 2005, 6, 7, shotgun start at 7am, finished by 11 in time for a beer and lunch (supplied free by the club). If you take any longer than 4.5 hours there is something really wrong with the way you are playing the game. And the Ambrose we played had every player hitting every time, I have never heard of an Ambrose where the Tee shot is left out of the hole. And I have been playing since 1972…. |

Hi mate, funny to see you here. It’s not often you hit such a beautiful 3-wood for your 3rd shot on a par-4 in a scramble! I don’t think I got to sit down once in the eight hours. I found what I wrote about that event: “The weather was some of the worst I have ever played under … the first eight holes were not too bad, with a strong but still cold northerly wind. Then about midday there was a southerly change, bringing heavy intermittent showers, hail and an even stronger southerly. At one stage we all had to seek shelter behind trees and umbrellas when a rain and hailstorm swept over. Walking the pontoon to the island 18th green holding an umbrella in the gale was an interesting experience!” “Because of the change, we also managed to play the four hardest holes into the wind. There are also a lot of lakes at Hidden Valley, and with the wind whipping off the water it seemed even colder. I don’t think the temperature would have got much past 8C all day, and the wind chill made it seem much lower. It was sleeting on my drive home.” “All-in-all, I think this must rank as one of my worst golfing |

Topic: Holden Scramble re; Publish, The coldest Melbourne day in living memory. There aren’t many games of golf I haven’t enjoyed, but that was definitely one. I still remember my 3 wood 3rd shot that finished just short of the green on the par 4 6th though, creamed it. |

Topic: Holden Scramble There’s way too many burgulars “out there” for me to give this event serious consideration anymore. We had a team at the Regional Final a few years ago – that finished 13 under off the stick and came 3rd or 4th from memory !!! Last event I ever went in. Good luck !! |

8 HOURS!!!... 6-7 HOURS AVERAGE!! I don’t even like doing things I like for that long!! hahahaha…. Long Drive – 6 ball set, 3 minute time limit! You don’t hit your balls in 3 minutes you forfeit them! Good for those of us who have short attention spans!! hahaha… Last Pro Comp we had in SA we had 20 Long Drivers had 2 qualifying rounds of 6 balls each, match play quarter, semi and grand final. Whole tournament wrapped up in 2.5 hours. The bar session was longer than the tournament!! hahaha |

Franky B, when sorting your team consider getting a low to mid H’cap lady in your team. I played the scramble a couple of years back and the group that played with us had a lady who was a tidy golfer, not great but pretty consistent. she was hitting off the ladies all day and when they took her drives they were that far in front of us it was silly, eg one par four their group is hitting 9iron in and we are hitting 3 iron. It worked a treat for them all day and they ended up winning the day. |

Topic: Holden Scramble I played a Holden Scramble in the first year they went to 2×3 person teams playing in a group (2003). It was at Hidden Valley, Vic. (a course with long distances from each green to the next tee), off the black markers (6500m), on a wet and very windy day in August, with lots of drops for casual water on the fairways. It took us nearly 8 hours for the round. I’ve been told 6-7 hour rounds are common on other courses in even good conditions. |

Topic: Holden Scramble Canadian ambrose, teams of three where all three tee off, whichever ball you pick that person doesn’t hit so for the rest of the hole you only have two balls to choose from. All three hit from the tee again, more of a thinking game I feel where everyone really will get a go, not just the all rounder. |
